The chance is 1/1024 but it always happens to him haha...

I don't get it.

BLB plays these, turns the journey token and it faces down 10 times, which means he doesn't get full bonus for the token face up.

The sad truth about the best card in Dominion...

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Tunnel
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:59:12 pm »
Tunnels are very powerful if some cards are present, such as Warehouse and Storeroom. However, when you draw Tunnel without them in your hand then Tunnel is another dead card (and then Warehouse will have to discard other cards for no effect).

Some cards that allows discarding, to illustrate Cartographer, Navigator, Oasis, Tactician, Catacombs, may not work perfectly with Tunnel. Cartographer and Navigator can discard Tunnel NOT in hand (so Tunnels in hand are dead). Tactician may force you to discard good cards (Gold) along with Tunnel. Catacombs may draw Tunnel in 4-6 next card of the deck. Venture, Golem, Adventurer does not guarantee discarding Tunnel before finishing revealing cards. (While Golem is still viable if you've at most 1 non-Golem action) So, with the presence of these cards it relies on your luck too, not always cause you to gain Golds.

It may not be a counter to discard attacks because you cannot rely on them playing when you've this in hand (and your opponent may declines to play it). The exception may be Goons that its +VP per buy is powerful.

To conclude, not every kingdom with cards allowing discarding causes Tunnel's reaction viable. And even with lack of discarding, Tunnel is only bought around the endgame for 2VPs only.

Prince-Remake twice? No problem...

You trash the fortress twice and gain two $5s, then play fortress, play prince on scheme, and topdeck fortress forever, basically gaining you two $5 cards for free every turn.
The turn you Prince your Scheme, you don't Scheme. Prince, two Schemes, Fortress would work.

You may have already mentioned this, but did you consider or test a Prince that played the card the turn it set it aside?

I don't get that, you don't get to play princed card the turn it is set asided, do I get this wrong?

« on: July 03, 2014, 08:30:10 pm »
i find cache good whenever
-> copper is a good card (gardens, really awful slogs)
-> 5$ in 3 cards is good enough; in this case you buy it when you would also buy masterpiece for 5$
-> you have trader in hand
-> you have watchtower in hand

overall, I think dominion would be a better game without cache. it had it's role, but now we got masterpiece, which just does it better. the trader/watchtower thing is cute, but eh.

Well for me in engine building there're almost always better 5$ and even with Watchtower orTrader in hand I tend to buy those 5$ instead of Cache to keep the engine going. For me the only time Cache is viable is for Garden...

I'm rather surprised that people are hating on Cache of all things. I mean, yes, it's pretty weak the vast majority of the time, but there are FAR more pointless cards. (Pearl Diver, anyone?)
Pearl Diver is cool!

Pearl Diver is not a great card but it's cantrip property allows it to be spammable if there're 2$ and some buys left since it still gives some advantage, but surely not dominant strategy.

...Are you princing the fortress? That seems suboptimal (if you prince the scheme instead, then the prince of remakes gets to make you trash two cards once more before you catch it with the scheme). Actually, why are you using prince at all in a board with possession and scheme?

EDIT: basically, I would prefer the meme if you didn't draw prince in your turn, since it's not helping that much. Especially since your opponent can possession-scheme to "kill" whatever prince you make.

OPPONENT PLAYS MINION!!!!!!

...you prince scheme so you can have a fortress in your hand every turn...

Just scheme remake and then you don't have to prince remake every turn, right? According to the rule, if you don't discard the action from play, it'll not going to be set aside anymore.

1) Why is that first world problems?
2) No way is that faster.
Sorry if I use wrong picture :(
By the way, I've never encountered the pinner, have just read in f.ds articles. I think it takes several turns to set this up (buy silver(s) + Masquerade + Another trasher + Get Goon + 2 KCs+ Trash other cards) and some rushes can beat that. Sorry too if I were wrong.

Chapel is a great card compared to its cost and Insanity Wolf also buys that!!!

That's my rule of thumb as well -- if it looks like a 4 province game with no +buy or other good way to break a tie, I'll buy an estate with $2

Occasionally when there are is no worthwhile $5 and the choice is something with silver's level of usefulness, I'll even get an early duchy

I often do that on 5/2 opening if there's no +buy and no cursing attack. 1VP may decide the game if province split 4-4. But on the other cases I don't.

P.S. i do not know if my play is right or not.  :P

What are your guys' pro ratings? I'm pretty sure there's no situation where an early Duchy is desirable over even just buying a silver. Just my thoughts.

hard to find Pro Ratings, just look at their leaderboard positions:
http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/leaderboard/

Sure there is.  What if you just don't need the Silver, or in other words, increasing the number of cards in your deck by adding a mediocre one is a bad idea?  In that case, replacing Hovel with Duchy is 3 points without increasing the size of the deck whereas purchasing Silver is a wasted buy.  Now, that said, the cases where there is not a good $5 Kingdom card available are somewhat uncommon, but they can happen.  Plus, sometimes it's better to hold off on the Hovel to replace it with a Province anyway.  Silver is only $2 and it's taking up a slot that could be something else, remember.  Sometimes that makes a difference.

There might be edge case on this, but extremely rare IMO.
The opportunity cost for the Duchy can be very high compared to strong attacks, $5 engine components...

Good thing the Highways split 5-5. If you had gotten a 6th one, this might have ended up in the "Greatest Misclicks" thread...
It'd be silly if Province costs $2...haha

That's a great move, 12VP swing in a turn!

By the way, I've tried this setup (knight with highway) but it does not work for me. With 2-3 highways in play my knight hit cheap engine cards and it's jot discarded all the time. T_T (Still lucky that I did not hit his $1 Tunnel)

First time in this thread, trying to start making memes...

From base Dominion engine, pity Bad Luck Brian...

why did he play the smithy? I'd usually just pass the turn.

Well if he's already drawn all of his smithies this shuffle, he'd probably like to cause a reshuffle sooner. Of course drawing 3 villages doesn't do that, but he didn't know he was going to draw all villages.

Yep.  He could have drawn Treasures, and then the Villages could have caused a reshuffle on his next turn in which he drew a Smithy.  But it's also true that drawing a bunch of terminals is likely to lead to drawing useless Villages.  If he doesn't play a Smithy, then his Villages will just cycle themselves next turn anyway, so it's not like he has much left to lose.  But that chance to draw a Treasure or at least an Estate does make playing a Smithy have some average benefit overall.

True, I think Bad Luck Brian keeps track of his deck carefully (to avoid his bad luck as much as possible) and knows that he's still got three villages, some treasures and some estates left. He'd like to cycle his deck fast to speed up the engine running. Drawing just 3-4 still allows him to buy a piece of engine components but pity him since he's Bad Luck Brian...

1) I'd prefer BM - Library in this case, with some cellars for sifting. The best engine case here may be Library - Market - Cellar with a few silvers and golds (but I think it's weaker.) Council room's extra card for opponents is like them playing a laboratory, which is by far so strong. I try to avoid this card unless discard attacks are available.

Additional note (edited): Going Library also allows Council Room player to go for this strategy safely because the extra card is mitigated by draw-up-to-X card. It's a Council Room paradox and it's hard to figure out whether to go for this or not.

2) I prefer Laboratory/Village (may add Smithy) and Woodcutter engine. The presence of Chapel means engine building should be easy.
