Title: Haggler/Black Market
Post by: werothegreat on December 11, 2013, 10:56:07 pm
So.  Question.  What happens when you buy something from the Black Market with a Haggler in play?  Goko's response is to turn off the Black Market and let you gain something from the Supply.  I'm inclined to think this is correct, but should you be able to Haggle something out of what is revealed from the Black Market deck as well?  Same thing for Border Village in the Black Market as well.

It would be from the Supply only.  When any card says "gain a card" without further clarification, then it means from the Supply.

Note that Haggler specifies "buy a card" instead of "buy phase".
Regardless of Black Market, you have only one buy phase, the one after your action phase.

Peddler in Black Market always costs $8 for example.
But because Haggler just mentions "buy" it does trigger during Black Market's `phase`.

On a related note, Merchant Guild also specifies "buy a card", so you get coin tokens for your Black Market purchases that can then be used on the buy phase of the same turn. A nice surprise when I discovered this one game.

However, you cannot use Coin tokens to make a Black Market purchase.

I think you're right about that, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Can anyone confirm how it works on Goko?

It should work like that and if it doesn't, it's a bug.

Guilds rulebook specifies using Coin tokens only in the Buy phase (or while playing Butcher), and Goko correctly does not let you use Coin tokens while playing Black Market.

Really!  Did not know that.  Time to play some more games with Tactician/Black Market shenanigans.  :)

You can get them with gokocoins, which cost real money...

Is there a quick way to get "sheilds"  It seems like you have to win 50 boss battles, which means winning like 200 normal adventures to access the boss showdown.  This takes forever :(

The "finale" boss battles give you more. Like 10 or so. I can't recall exactly. So it's not quite that slow. But it's pretty slow.

EDIT: Ha! There's still no Guilds adventures. Silly Goko. Well, as long as you can buy any future promos with cash money, I guess it's OK.

IIRC you get 4 shields for the final bosses of the first two Acts of each expansion, and 20 for the final bosses on Act 3 (and Act 4 for DA). So you get 52 shields from completing all adventures of a normal large expansion (or the base set), 80 for Dark Ages, but only 12 for each small expansion.
On average you have to win ~120 adventures to gain a Promo card.
