This thread is the main thread for creating Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/146278/tash-kalar-arena-of-legends) forum games.
If you want to play say /in here with your school (Empire, Highland or Sylvan) and once you are two post pairing here or ask someone else to create your game (http://tash-kalar.singlepicture.org/).
You can find current and finished games in Non-Mafia Game Threads (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?board=41.0).

Original message:
Anyone would be willing to play Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/146278/tash-kalar-arena-of-legends
Board can be managed by Google document.
I'm not sure how to manage card draws .. probably not-playing moderator would be necessary.
Best is 2 player high form game. So if we get 3 players, then we can play 3 games and each player would moderate the game he is not playing. Or 4 people, 2 games, 2 moderators. Anyone interested?

/in

also /in !

Links to rules, card photos and Google board added to first post.

If there is a second game /in. Otherwise /tag ;)

If there is a second game /in. Otherwise /tag ;)
We will play at least 2 games so that moderators can play too.
Example for 4 players in:
Game 1: A vs B, moderator C
Game 2: C vs D, moderator A
I have added link to Moderator sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjFvlzoTdhK4dElyTWk2U3R0SnRhUGd0XzBWM2YwWlE#gid=0) to the first post .
I have asked someone to upload photo of all tasks and flares. So we will wait 2 more days for him to do it.
If not, it won't be a problem, I have found 19/24 task online and flares are not that commonly played so we have enough for the first games.
We can start as many games as we want, registration deadline: December 03, 2013, 05:59:00 pm
-
/in.
I'd prefer playing a normal High Form game (without beginner's rules).
-
/in.
I'd prefer playing a normal High Form game (without beginner's rules).
I prefer playing without beginner's rules too. But we can pair people who would prefer that.
-
I'd be willing to mod a game as well btw.
-
Ideas how to play:
Take a look at board example with pieces (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjFvlzoTdhK4dG04M0pwNGVhYlFOeGVPWHhjLVpBekE#gid=0). Do you think log in the board sheet bottom is good idea? Plus is shared revision history. Or we can create forum topic for each game and have turn log there. In both variants more descriptive log is possible - using coordinates B5, E8.
At the end of the turn: send PM to opponent, send PM to moderator if you need to draw cards.
With forum topic for each game, this can be there.
Idea of how to moderate: Setup: Fill tasks to board sheet. Send random cards to players by PMs and delete them from moderator sheet. When you are asked by PM for a card(s) from particular deck(s) you send random card(s) back over PM and delete them from moderator sheet. When task is claimed (PM from claimer) fill new task to board sheet.
This is my first forum game so feel free to suggest better ways how to play.
-
I think I figured out a way to do this without a moderator, except for the initialising of the game:
At the beginning, the moderator shuffles all the decks and posts them in seperate numbered spoilers filled up with _ and in the Courier font, which has constant character length, like this:
Legends Deck:
1-Titan____________
2-Dragon___________
3-some other legend
...
Always keep track of which card is the top card of each deck. At the beginning that would be 1. Whenever you draw cards from a deck, start at that number and look at the corresponding spoilers, then announce which card is now on top (i.e. increase the number by the amount of cards you drew)
When bottom-decking a card, spoiler it in your post with the number after the current bottom card.
If all current top cards are announced in each post or tracked in the spreadsheet log, this should be not too confusing.
-

I like that.
Anyone has opinion on where should we place the log and how descriptive it should be? Do you all see the whole board and have some space below it for log?
-

My preference is that the log contains all information to reproduce the game, so that in principle one could restart the game from any point using only the information provided in the log. As no one will probably do this for our games here, I think, it is sufficient to state, which card was played, which figures entered the game, and the positions where the figures are placed.
-
Games:
yed - Qvist
PitrPicko - ghostofmars
Watno - yed
PitrPicko - Qvist
ghostofmars - Watno
If you also want to play two games, post it here. For example we can also start games:
Qvist - PitrPicko
ghostofmars - Watno
So now choose your school (Imperial, Highland or Sylvan) for your game.
I have written a web form which will generate starting hands and decks in form as Watno suggested - no moderator needed. Unfortunately we don't have all the flares and tasks, but I think we have enough for a game. I will collect what I found online and put it into the web form and image.
-
Why did you set up games for Awaclus but not for me?
How do you plan to get the spoilers out of the web app without accidentally reading them?
I'd be up for a second game btw.
-
Why did you set up games for Awaclus but not for me?
Sorry, corrected.
How do you plan to get the spoilers out of the web app without accidentally reading them?
I will ask someone else to do it for my games.
I'd be up for a second game btw.
Ok, what schools do you choose?
-
I think one of the tasks you're missing is most probably "Color Legends"
-
I'll pick Highland in my game against you, yed.
-
I think one of the tasks you're missing is most probably "Color Legends"
Yes, but I don't have a card text and image for it.
-
Web form for generating games. (http://tash-kalar.singlepicture.org/) (GitHub (https://github.com/yed/Tash-Kalar-forum-game-generate/))
PitrPicko, Qvist or hostofmars: please create a game for us: Watno (Highlands)- yed (Sylvan)
-
Caught one of the missing cards:
-
Links to images with the tasks:
https://github.com/yed/Tash-Kalar-forum-game-generate/blob/master/index.html#L80
Better form of this maybe tomorrow.
-
After the games will be created copy clean board (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjFvlzoTdhK4dDR1LW5TbkgwSzFDZDJCaGdNSFp6MVE#gid=0) and set permissions to write for everybody with link.
I can do that for you if someone don't have Google Account or don't want to do it.
I think it is better to put the log in forum. It will be better for turn notifications. I have removed log lines from board sheet.
When you will be drawing cards write it in red, so that it won't be unnoticed by your oponent:
drawing flare-1.
-
Not sure if I've done it correctly, but I created your game for you.
I will take Sylvan for my match.
-
I'd like to take highlanders
-
Thanks Qvist, that is ok.
Since ghostofmars have not yet choosen school I have changed pairing and created game:
PitrPicko - Qvist
This means that PitrPicko don't have to wait.
Also since I prefer only one game at once ghostofmars's game will be with Watno.
So please Watno and ghostofmars choose your school and I will create a game for you.
-
PitrPicko - Qvist (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9915.0) (PitrPicko's turn)
Watno - yed (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9914.0) (Watno's turn)
-
I'm making a Spreadsheet with all the cards. So far I have all the tasks we found except for Line Dominace, where I couldn't read the text:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuoXfjzSnYbsdG1KY1Z0TlkweFZDOFZsLU1GTXlYbVE#gid=0
-
I have made mistake in the script. The second player flare description is wrong, it is the first player's flare. Code before it is ok.
The problem is that second player now know what first player has as flare.
Not sure how to proceed now. Simplest solution is draw another flare by both players.
-
actually, only the first player needs to draw a new flare, if I'm not mistaken.
-
actually, only the first player needs to draw a new flare, if I'm not mistaken.
Yes but the second player needs to use the code like "45b" istead of the text.
-
well, he'd have to do that when drawing anyway.
-
There is bigger bug: flares description is sorted same as deck :( Sorry. I have moved that shuffling up late and did not thought of this.
We need to reshuffle flares.
-
Ok, let's hope you don't draw one where you can do something because i have 4 more beings than you.
-
I have fixed the flares deck in PitrPicko - Qvist (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9915.0) game.
Qvist: please do the same for our game Watno - yed (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9914.0)
You can copy sorted flare legend from your game (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9915.0).
Then pick one flare for me and one for Watno, send them to us by PM and shuffle the rest.
-
I was really confused just now why quvist was supposed to cop the sorted legends :P
-

:) Modified it: "flare legend" is better.
-

I was confused at first too, but then I understood what he meant. No problem.
-
The text of 46 a doesn't look right. (I guess that's the end of another flare in the second line?)
-
Also since I prefer only one game at once ghostofmars's game will be with Watno.
So please Watno and ghostofmars choose your school and I will create a game for you.
As no one else chose Imperial yet, I'll take them.
-

Yes, "square, or convert 1 common enemy piece to your color." should not be there. I made this mistake when I was sorting that by hand and Qvist then copied it as I suggested.
I have fixed it in PitrPicko-Qvist game.
-
Lets go for a mirror match then ghostofmars. I'm taking the other imperium.
Someone please set us up?

-
Could someone (Qvist?) reshuffle Taks 5-18 in my game against yed, please? i did a mistake.
-
I have edited the first post: adding more useful links from this thread + info for new players
-
We also need a reshuffle of Legends starting at 3 and Highlands starting at 6 :(
-
/in for another game. I will take Imperial School.
-
If a new player wants to join, I would let him play.
Otherwise /in with Highlands
-
This game is a lot quicker than I thought. But I think playing via Spreadsheet is a bit too fiddly for me.
-
If a new player wants to join, I would let him play.
Otherwise /in with Highlands
I don't see anyone new here:
Someone please create our game:
yed(Empire) - ghostofmars(Highlands)

Or if PitrPicko and Qvist want to play one more with different opponent, we can wait and start the games for example:
Yed - Qvist
ghostofmars - PitrPicko
-
Man... I just saw this and read the rules and I totally want in.
-
You can already decide for a faction Empire, Highlands or Sylvan.
Qvist mentioned that he would be interested in another round. Once two player announced their factions, I can open a game for you.
-
I'll take Empire just to be simple.
-
I take Highland this time.
-
Sorry I am on phone. You need to wait for someone else to start your game.
-
If someone wants to play another game, I haven't played Sylvan yet. So I'm /in to play anyone with that school.
-
I'm \in with Imperial
-
/in for another with Highland
-
I have fixed mistake in flare 36a:
correct is: 3 upgr: Place 1 common piece of your color on any empty square. 6: Place 1 common heroic piece of your color on any empty square.
I have also added flare 35a:
You may do up to 3 standard moves, using your common pieces. 5: Gain an action.
and task Devastation: 4+ enemy destroyed for 2 poins
Only one flare and one task are unknown.
-
So after playing half a game, my thought was that I totally need to get this.
And then I saw the price at Z-Man. $65 in the US.
And suddenly, Nope.
-

I don't know why is it that expensive from Z-Man. Czech version is available for $37 here.

Presumably shipping costs, though that much shipping seems a bit crazy. Where are you?

I don't think that are shipping costs, it is probably Z-man overpricing it. Czech Republic.
Qvist: How much does Tash-Kalar cost in Germany?
-
About 30€ here. Still feels quite expensive fit what's in the box.
-

I agree, but better than 65$. Seems a bit weird. Are you sure you don't get two copies for this price?
-
Zman seems to be trying out how much they can charge for games without people not buying them anymore because of it.
-
/in for another with Sylvan.
I can't imagine how could anyone buy this for $65 if you can play it on forum ;) I'd say that reasonable price would be $25 or 20€...
-

It'd be reasonable at $35, which is a pretty standard price point. I mean, it's 120 cards and 120 cardboard chips, with a board. Compare with Innovation ($25 for 110 cards) or Robot Turtles ($30 for 100 cards, board, 50 large cardboard pieces). Tash-Kalar should be higher than either of those... but not $30 higher!
-
Also: This is really asking for a non-spreadsheet/forum version. It'd be much easier to program than Dominion, for instance.
-
I have fixed the permissions of Tash-Kalar card list sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjFvlzoTdhK4dDVSQjUwNTJhd2s2M0FxTXNxN0NXdnc#gid=0). It is a copy of Watno's with new cards and some fixes.
-
How come you guys are playing 2 player only, since this game is 2-4? Do we only have the template to play with 2, or is it similar to Dominion in that it's a more competitive game with only 2?
-
How come you guys are playing 2 player only, since this game is 2-4? Do we only have the template to play with 2, or is it similar to Dominion in that it's a more competitive game with only 2?
There are 3 types of game:
High Form: 2 players or 2 teams (4 players) where you play for tasks
Dethmatch Duel: 2 players or 2 teams (4 players) where you kill opponent's pieces
Dethmatch Melee: 3-4 players where you kill opponent's pieces
We are playing 2 player High Form which I think is the best.
The generate script is only for 2 players, but it is not hard to modify it.
-
If there is interest, I would also play a Team High Form match.
-
\in for anything 3+plrs
-
\in for anything 3+plrs
\in for anything 3+plrs
-
If we play a team game, I think either both players in a team should choose the same school e.g. Empire/Empire vs Highland/Highland or both should be different e.g. Empire/Sylvan vs Highland/Empire.
I imagine that it is a (small?) advantage if both players have the same deck, because it could be possible to reuse the same pattern, e.g. Player A summons Eagle Lord, Player B does something, Player C summons another Eagle Lord.
I would also /in a death match, if the majority decides so, but prefer a team High Form game, because from what I read the death match is rather chaotic...
-
I preferer 3 player Deathmatch meele.
-
Create game form (http://tash-kalar.singlepicture.org/) now supports 3 and 4 player games.
Since we are only 3 in for for 3+ game, we can start 3 player Dethmatch meele game. So please choose your school.
\in with Imperial for 3 player Dethmatch meele game.
-
I have also created clean board for 3 or 4 player detchmatch melee (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjFvlzoTdhK4dHQtMHl6NjRZdDNpamZ4ZXhkYmRORWc#gid=0) and clean board for 2 or 4 player detchmatch duel (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjFvlzoTdhK4dHhmQzdyeFBybzVsaEh6OFFYbGVMNkE#gid=0).
-
My starting order for 3 player detchmach melee game:
Rolled 1d3 : 3, total 3
-
/in Highland
My starting order
Rolled 1d2 : 2, total 2
-
Okay, so the player order is
1) PitrPicko with school ?
2) ghostofmars with Highland
3) yed with Imperial
-
I'll take sylvan ;)
-
Kirian, Watno or someone else: Please create our game (http://tash-kalar.singlepicture.org/):
3 player Deathmatch Melee:
1) PitrPicko with Sylvan
2) ghostofmars with Highland
3) yed with Imperial

Woot, CoolStuffInc had it for $43 with free shipping! Should have it in a week or so.

Also, /in as, say, Sylvan, when someone's available.

I'd /in with Empire
-
I have added last task and flare: Isolation and 36b.

yed, I'm in for high form with Highland.

That is a very ballsy thing to do. Then again, he's a big enough name that it might end up being meaningful.

Also /in with Sylvan.
/in with Imperial

Hrm. VASSAL seems not to recognize it as valid. :(
It works for me with VASSAL-3.2.10-svn8974-linux.tar.bz2
-
Something must have gone wrong in my first download; it worked fine just now, so yay!
That said... I have no idea how one would go about playing using it!
-
There is new version of VASSAL module (http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1106079/new-version-of-vassal-module), that looks like it is playable. But I like forum + google sheet game more because of coordinates (for example E5) and ability to reconstruct and verify your opponent's turn.
Maybe it would be possible to combine those = forum + VASSAL.
In for 2 player high form with Sylvan forum + google sheet.
But if someone wants to try VASSAL I can do that too, but I think it would be better to find common time and play it as a whole.
