Title: Sorry for my absence (again)
Post by: Qvist on October 10, 2013, 08:54:15 pm
Hey, AdamHorton contacted me and I'm glad he did.

I just wanted to pop in and say I'm not dead yet.
I'm really sorry that I left without any notice, but I just want to explain shortly why.
Well, I got really ill recently and so I had to shift priorities. Dominion is really an addiction for me and there's no "a little bit Dominion".
It's either all or nothing. So, I decided to quit, well I not really decided it, but it happened like that.
But I still miss Dominion and this community a lot. There was no long time where I didn't think about making a return or at least pop in to explain everything, but I just never got around to do that. I miss playing Dominion, miss making videos, miss talking with all of you guys, and miss making the lists, so on so forth.
I'm not really recovered yet, but I have now hopes to get well soon. This was last week. Since then I planned to come back even more and now Adam contacted me. I don't know when I will be fully back, but I try to at least continue the lists.

I hope you didn't miss me so much and accept my apologies. I hope to be back soon.

There's no need to apology.  We'd all love to see you around now and again, but please don't worry about the lists.  Get well.

I one time was gone for 2 and a half weeks and had 13 pages of unread threads...

Got through most threads.
I'm preparing now to continue with my youtube channel and the rankings. I already did some preparations.
Also, today I did play Dominion the first time since ~4 months. Felt good.

So, I came to the conclusion that you really can't unlearn playing Dominion.

I close this day with being #9 on the Goko leaderboard (above Stef, yeah :P) and #20 on the isotropish one. I never had a level above 40 in the old leaderboard and now I'm at level 43, it feels great. Maybe the break even helped getting better. Who knows...

I am of the opinion that long breaks (like my current one) are very helpful in improvement. Obviously there will be a couple of days where you remember how to play again, but afterwards you are more open to trying new strategies.

question about this stuff.  Sometimes I'm gone for a week+ and I'll only have maybe 3 pages of unread threads...and all of those posts made in the last 2 days or so.  How do I make the unread posts actually include ALL unread posts?

Not sure if you mean that, but there's a link "All unread topics" at the bottom right of the topic list.

I can't find such a link, or possibly I did; i'm fairly incompetent at internet.  I just found that if I'm at the home page, each subcategory has a "Unread Posts" link to the right of the header bar.  Then at the bottom right footer-bar of this list is "All unread topics".  Is there a way to do that for the whole forum, and not just one category at a time?

Hmmm.  There's "Show unread posts since last visit." in the header -- is that what you want?
Title: Re: Sorry for my absence (again)
Post by: shraeye on November 01, 2013, 12:14:29 pm
no; i frequently visit, but don't read all (or any) unread posts.  So those are teh type that disappear eventually without me having read them.

Ok, sorry about the confusion. It's the combination of both (what theory and I said). Click on "Show unread posts since last visit" and then click on "All unread topics" at the bottom right of the topics list. This should list ALL topics with new posts since you last checked. I hope this is what you wanted.

There's this link: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0

I'm not sure if that is linked anywhere on the site.

EDIT: Bam, that is the same link as Qvist's above.

Right after finishing the Team World Cup I'm now in hospital again. That means that I won't be visiting the forums as frequently as before. After I'm back I'll continue with the Card List, making a 2014 version. Not sure when exactly though.

I wouldn't say that obsessed. Hospitals aren't usually very fun places, but Dominion clearly changed that :D at least a bit.

I think hospitals are rather fun, it's just that you usually don't go there in very fun circumstances.

Maybe Hospitals are more fun in Germany?

Where I live, it really sucks to stay at the hospital. The nurses always seem to mess up, giving you the wrong medication or the wrong dose. I was hospitalized late in 2012 for a week. Let's just say, it was a good thing I paid attention to what the Doctors said.

Hospitals in Montreal are pretty good I think. I've never had to stay long, but my experience is mostly just that the emergency rooms are badly managed and understaffed.

I had stayed at the Royal Victoria hospital. I was happy with the treatment I received from the specialists there. However, half of what they did involved fixing the damage I had received from the general doctors of another hospital. Also, my set of needs was  rather large during my stay, and the nurses made numerous mistakes when it came to addressing them. I couldn't recognize and correct all of them in time. I've heard similar stories from other people who had prolonged stays at a hospital.
