Title: goko rankings in multiplayer
Post by: ehunt on September 03, 2013, 03:37:28 pm
i was busy buying goons in a multiplayer game while my opponents bought provinces. anyway, an opponent resigned and I heard the loss music (usually you hear the win music when a player resigns) and it told me i was in third place of the remaining three players. Does Goko really give you a loss for having a lower score in a multiplayer game when someone resigns? (I don't remember my ranking prior to the game, or my win-loss record.)

According to the devs, no. You record a win over the quitting player and no decision vs. the other player.

On a side note, I've had to blacklist players over repeated 3P quitting. Goko really needs to handle those situations. It's aggravating to have an opponent quit out late in a decided game, and nearly as aggravating to not be able to quit out on the losing end of similar situations.

More than two players on Goko is still a disaster... I think it's their biggest lasting problem, actually.

*that hasn't been fixed by the Goko Salvager Extension.

If the extension programmers can make it so that Goko only matches me with trustworthy people who are guaranteed to play out a three and four-player game, that would be truly impressive.

The bots are waiting for you.

Not sure if that's tongue-and-cheek or not, but it might be interesting:
Play 3p with two humans and a bot.

Solves a lot of the drop out problem (and the speed of the game). While opening up the strategy to how 3p works a little more (which I think in general is relatively weak in this community). Has anyone tried it?

related -- just now, in 2p, i was playing a bunch of grand markets, when my opponent (whose score was higher at the time) resigned. i heard the victory music but on the next screen with the rankings, i saw a red arrow pointing down and a number like 55... does that mean if you resign while you are ahead your ranking goes up?

Most probably this bug: https://getsatisfaction.com/goko/topics/rating_change_display_oddity
It's just visual.

No I think their rating updates are just broken and it isn't a visual. It isn't a hangover from a previous game. It doesn't self correct. They need to fix it.

I can confirm this. Back when I was recording changes in Goko ratings, I double-checked some of my +0 incidents against the rating changes I recorded. There really was no rating change at the time and the updates immediately before and after also appeared to be correct.

Of course, it's possible that Goko has more than one such bug, one real and the other merely visual.

I was talking about the bug where you get a wrong rating change displayed.

Maybe i should read posts before responding to them.

It's actually a lot of fun--I've been playing a ton of 3p on Goko as I try to become a less serious Dominion player.

Seeing as I'm currently #2 on the leaderboard, I'm not sure that's working very well.

It is most definitely not a merely cosmetic bug. I have received 0 points at least 7 times during the last 4 days and none of those were corrected for later.

I have had them correct sometimes, but the last time that happened was at least a month ago.

I'm still not talking about the 0-change bug...

I've had ranking changes that make no sense all day. Losing points for winning, gaining points for losing, and no change at all have all happened to me today.

Ranking goes up, ranking goes down... you can't explain that.

You also can't put it into a formula.
