Title: Do they do innovation tournaments at any BG conventions?
Post by: ksasaki on May 26, 2013, 12:53:18 pm
I've heard of RFTG, twilight struggle, and such.  Has anyone ever witnessed an innovation tournament, because I would like to attend one!

I have not seen one, but I'd love to play in one.  probably much easier to set up than a dominion tournament

The variance in Innovation, on top of the requisite playtime, is kind of a big barrier to RL tournaments.

(It's also a big barrier to Dominion, and I don't think anyone will disagree that RL Dominion tournaments are generally not executed very well.)

We are doing an Innovation tournament at GenCon, and there's one at the WBC as well.

I must know more of this! I'm going to be working a booth at GenCon; is the day/time established for this tournament? How many players in a game? Which expansions?

Is it... teams??

It shall be two player games of base, and it's Saturday at 1PM.

I hate to be that guy, but have you given any thought to tournament specific rules, specifically regarding things like taking notes, or reference materials (like a card list)? I'm not saying these things should be allowed, but I know if they're not specifically addressed somewhere, someone will want to know. Personally, I'm awful at remembering what's been returned and in what order, an what cards are buried in my opponent's piles, so if note-taking WERE allowed, I would.

wow, the world boardgaming championships are really close to where I am (North Carolina).  Would it be possible to have an echoes tournament, I play 99% echoes and I sort of forgot how to play base :P

I think the problem with that is most people who have played Innovation have only played base. Get practising! You'll probably walk it either way.

I run an Isotropic tournament at the World Boardgaming Championship. Two-player base only Go to www.boardgamers.org for information on the WBC (it's a great convention), and to http://boardgamers.org/yearbkex/iovpge.htm for information about the Innovation tournament in particular.
