Title: Lord of the Rings deckbuilding
Post by: Kuildeous on April 18, 2013, 02:22:58 pm
Hmm, any preliminary thoughts about Lord of the Rings deckbuilding (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/127127/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-fellowship-of-the-ring-d)?

I haven't looked at the rules, but it just doesn't do anything for me. For one, calling something "deckbuilding" just seems like a transparent attempt to cash in on a trend's popularity (even if it is true).

The description doesn't sound groundbreaking. Sounds like it is styled off of games like Ascension and Legendary in that you have a custom pool.  Unlike Legendary, it doesn't sound like it is customizable. The archenemy deck sounds pretty cool, especially since you could "attack" other players by defeating the current archenemy and bringing out the next one to attack everyone.

If it comes out at a table, I'll be interested in trying it out (just like I did with Legendary). But it doesn't scream out to be purchased.
