I wanted this to be a "What's missing?" puzzle, but surprisingly there just weren't enough cards that made the list. So instead, tell me what these cards have in common. Remember, these are the ONLY cards that share this characteristic.
Transmute, Remodel, Expand
Hint #1: I thought Remake would make the list, but it turns out it doesn't.
Hint #2: You might be tempted to think about their (along with Remake) obviously similar functionality of trash-for-immediate-gaining. Think again. Turns out that's just a coincidence.
Hint #3: This puzzle may not work in non-English versions of Dominion depending on how the cards have been translated.

This is obviously not the solution you intended according to your second hint, but what about: These cards let you trash a $3-action card to gain a duchy?

You are correct. It's not what I was looking for. However, that's a perfectly valid way to define the set!
Here's another hint: You don't need to know a thing about how to play Dominion to notice the property that these three cards share and all other Dominion cards do not share.

I think I've got it.
Honourable mentions to Upgrade, Salvager, Apprentice, Bishop?

Mmm... I'm not sure what you're thinking, but that's nothing like what I'm going for. Still seems to require knowing how to play Dominion given the similarity in the trash-for-benefit card functions which has nothing to do with the intended solution.

I don't know you Jimmmmm and don't take this the wrong way. It will all make sense when the answer is revealed. But I just noticed that you of all people should get this one.

The name must be read as a verb and cannot be read as a noun.

We have a winner. Congrats. Hope you enjoyed it.
Was Jimmmmm's signature a hint for you?

yes

Haha okay. :) Incidentally, they're the only 3 cards that start with the sentence "Trash a card from your hand." The honourable mentions I suggested have some vanilla +s before the sentence. I figured this was okay since you don't need to know the rules, you just need to read the cards. Anyway, good one. :)

My solution was apparently not the one the o.p. had in mind.
These are the only three cards that can be used to turn a gardens(or any $4 vp) into a gold.

That solution doesn't work because remake, upgrade, develop and swindler also fit if you've played 5 (or 6 for swindler) bridges/highways.

With the release of Hinterlands, Develop also fits the puzzle criterion. Coincidentally, it also satisfies Jimmmmm's criterion.
