I dunno if any goko staff browse here but if so check this out!
- One idea from asobrain.com (Catan emulator) is to rate people based on speed, you can see people's quickness before you start your game, if you're gonna multitask while playing go ahead & choose "very slow" players, if you want to bang out a few games in a hurry before you gotta get to work or pick up the kid choose "very fast" partners. Right now there are some verrrry slow players on there & no way to boot them for lagging (eventually they are booted but it ends the game which ruins it for the remaining players)
- Option to Resign (afaik, when you "abandon game" as it stands now you ruin the game for everyone & it immediately ends)
- Better rating system (as a chess player I think an ELO system is just fine though isotropic's systems also seemed fine)
- Black Market baby! If Iso can implement a paysite should be able to!
- Two of the same card, don't ask us to put them back in "any order", they're the same card @$$h013!! (again if iso can handle this you can)
- More avatars & ability to custom create your own. The selection is awful
- Stats, stats & more stats, all gamers like stats, Iso & councilroom realized this, I don't think goko does yet
- Chat window on side now a pop-out (nobody likes pop-outs)
- Remember/offer to auto-fill game names so I don't have to type out "Base, Corny & Hinty" each time. So far the ability to name your own game you're starting is the only thing I like more about Goko than Iso, please improve upon it futher!!
- Option to put GameLog on the side (though I think, like on Iso it should be limited to just the last couple turns so people don't use it to "cheat" (you wouldn't have access to a gamelog of the last 20 turns in real life) but just to see what they missed while they were scanning porn in the background while waiting for their turn
Please add your own.
Also, what's up with the coins? Even when I lose I get some? Are they useful in anyway? Anyone want to buy mine? 8)
-
You should @ least be able to block players who continually quit. Custom-avatars would be nice too as then you could more easily tell people apart instead of having to choose from like 4-similar looking steampunk avs.
The fact that the game can abruptly end just because someone quits is probably the lamest "feature" I've noticed thusfar. Isotropic has a very simple & functional system to deal with resignation, why Goko choose to go in an utterly stupid different direction is beyond me but it makes a joke of any so-called rating system.

Shhhhh... They don't have Catan, they have "Xplorers".

sharing the owned expansions in tournament mode. so if i own dark Ages and my partner owns Intrigue both should be availabele.
at the moment i am only hosting games because i own a few expansions and dont want to risk playing base only. but i will never meet the players who also host only. ???

There is only an option for "abandon game" unless I'm missing a button somewhere.

I think the confirmation window uses the phrase "abandon." Also resigning does count as a loss.
-
But it doesn't count as a win for the other players.

A resign does count as a win for other players. Quitting by closing one's browser, however, does not count as a win for other players.

From my experience when my opponent's "abandon game" I get no points. Not that I particularly care about Dominion ranking, just saying. They could've closed their browsers.
One game was stuck in a particular screen, with nothing working, no chat, no message of someone else timing out, for about half-an-hour before I finally closed the window (don't know who won or lost but obviously it was pretty annoying).

When it says "game abandoned" or that a player "has left," that means they closed the tab or hit refresh to get out of the game. Some players are not aware there is a Resign button and do this when they're losing and want to leave, but some use it to game the leaderboard. (As Beyond Awesome says, this doesn't affect the rating of either player whereas Resigning does)
-
Funny, you'd think that's something Goko would've thought of... like months before they even released the game...
-
lol, I started a game called "No Quitters Plz" so my opponent quit on turn 1. Gotta love trolls!
-
Played a 2nd game, the game froze after the victory music played & now is still frozen...

I'm trying to post on GetSatisfaction. It's telling me "You are now logged in" and it's not ****ing posting. I can't believe I gave these guys my money, they are perhaps the most incompetent institution I ever gave my money to.

You are presumably not an American taxpayer.
That said, if you're logged in to GS, I'm not certain what's wrong. It is working fine on my end. What browser are you running?

I love how that's always the first question asked. It's like when a wind player fucks up a note, the first thing they do is look down at their instrument to check the keys.

Hey, at least some of that goes to public libraries.

I finally got in. Not sure why it didn't work @ 1st, the popup kept saying I was logged in.

I have, actually, as a violinist (http://www.umich.edu/~lsorch/welcome/welcome.html); I'm trying to understand how asking about a browser first is at all like checking the keys first. Or was there no analogy implied, just the fact that it's always the first thing checked?

Awesome! Bassoonist here. The analogy was that there's always a first thing we check, and it's usually not what the problem is, but we still check. And if Goko is really trying to be cross-platform, it shouldn't matter what your browser is. All this stuff about "well, try clearing your cache" or "well, try refreshing" or "well, maybe it's your browser" really should not be an issue.

Oddly enough, they're using pictures old enough that I'm still in the pictures... I think they must be from 2002 or 2003 given the other people there. I'm the one who forgot to put on his bowtie before coming out for the official pictures. :p

Okay, so I went to try Goko for the first time in a while, and spent the last 20 minutes trying to find a pro game, and staring at room after room of games being played. This is not what I need.
EDIT: Now I finally find a pro game, from which I get kicked immediately. How am I supposed to have a pro rating if no one will play with someone without a rating?
EDIT the second: Hooray! twenty minutes into a base set pro game that I hosted, the other player seems to have either gone to sleep or disconnected after I bought a bunch of VP and am ready to end the game next turn.

We'd meet in Outpost. I'd start a game, you'd join.

New kind of freeze... I am able to type in the chat but nothing happens & it's stuck on an opponent's turn & no one else seems able to communicate either.

When that happens, most likely your opponent left the game.

I'm not sure. I had this once too, but even after waiting for more than 5 minutes the game didn't end (as it's supposed to when an opponent quits).

The game will end if the opponent resigns. If the opponent quits by exiting the browser you are left hanging at least a few minutes. It could very well also be possible that the game froze on your end or your opponents end.

As far as I can remember in actual quits I experienced, the game ended after like 2 minutes. I don't know whether the header actually says "Opponent Quit", but the opponent's avatar is crossed out and you end up with +0 points in the leaderboard table. This is different than a resign.

At least for me, if it's a name I recognize from the forum, I won't kick.
But if you must increase your pro rating quickly, play a few "pro" games against a bot. You can get to 4k-ish--equivalent to, perhaps, Iso level 10--in four or five games. Yeah, it feels like gaming the system, but the system is still a bit screwy. They really ought to start the pro ratings closer to where the bots are (3k-ish)
-
Goko should have a Buddy List where you can see friends who are online and invite them to play.
-
EDIT: Now I finally find a pro game, from which I get kicked immediately. How am I supposed to have a pro rating if no one will play with someone without a rating?
Start a pro game and add a bot to it. It still is a pro game. I did this to get my pro rating to acceptable ~4500 level so that people will want to play with me. Didn't have time to test what effect it has (I switched to adventures to get Envoy), but I guess now when I will start pro tables with all sets available I will have no problem finding and opponent.
-
I wish Goko would let prospective players know which sets are available at each table instead of me having to write "All cards" every time.
-
I suggest you make your suggestions where Goko might actually read them, at getsatisfaction.

The goko staff do not browse here, they read getsatisfaction.com/goko , you should post things there if you want them seen. Donald X browses here sometimes, but there's a reasonable chance he's seriously tired of goko threads and doesn't check them anymore, so there's no guarantee.
Why on Earth would the Goko staff not browse a site dedicated to the game they are building a platform around?

They do sometimes, just not as much as, well, as the rest of us do.

I think they are understaffed. It seems jgs is the only one who reads on GS, and that seems a bit backlogged at the moment. So, if GS is backlogged then chances are Goko staff aren't reading these forums.

How much staff do you really need to read f.DS?

Six. One to program the lightbulb, two to fix the way it works, two to monetize it, and one to explain to the community why it won't quite be fixed for another week.

And one more to turn off all the lights in the other (much nicer!!!) room.
