Masonry does not have an e.
I'll think of something useful to contribute in a second.
The best I can do is a fermenting reference with the Most Interesting Man in the World, and it's not particularly funny. And I'm lazy and unsure how to make images I generate appear in-line, so you'll have to click the link. Sorry.

What you need is the image URL, which you can get by opening the image in a new tab (right click menu), and looking at the URL bar of that tab. Then wrap img tags around the url, and

So, just like in Dominion, every rule of thumb has an edge case.
Have you seen Turn 0 (Article)?
Every rule of thumb has an edge case, including this.
-
The point of the comic is that there are no edge cases. Turn 0 (article) is 105 discrete possibilities, and 105 recommendations. There is no edge case remaining.

Dwarves are associated with mining because you didn't excavate any more minerals than you could use, screw being able to stand upright while working. Somehow I doubt that MTR mining was a thing of the 17th century.

Nevertheless, the effect of Coal in Innovation is to remove the top cards of a pile.

It's been a while since I played Innovation so the terms might be a bit off...

Seriously though, why do a bunch of the yellow leaf-y cards seem so aggressive?? I would have thought that health-related technologies would have more of a positive effect for you, rather than a negative effect for your opponents. Is your opponent's score pile literally smallpox? Does this make thematic sense to anybody?

When you're the only one who has vaccination, there's a lot of stuff you can do to harm your opponents.
-
Look, man, vaccination is important. Look how sick your people are getting, working in those coal mines! Healthy people will lead to a better society in the long term, but at the cost of short term profitability.

Can someone explain this to me?

You don't have to achieve in order - if you have 45 points and an age 9 card on your board, you can achieve the Age 9 regardless of whether there are other achievements left. Hence, if your opponent has a score-removing card out (or one that changes your top cards), it may be in your best interest to achieve the higher age first, on the assumption that you'll still be able to get the lower age one next turn.

the mechanic was clear, but the strategic motivation wasn't. Thanks. Am new to the game.
(re "new to the game": it's funny because I've played like 3k games of dominion as compared with like 10-15 games of innovation. But to the board gamers I know, 10-15 plays counts as experienced.)
