Here's another simple DSG (Double Submission Game).
You can submit any integer value you want, ranging from -Infinity to +Infinity (exclusive of course).
Whoever submits a value that is closest to the average of all submitted values, wins the first round.
After the first round all submissions and the players who submitted them are revealed and round 2 starts with that information. So we have a "blind" first round and the second round where you can see what everyone was going for.
Points per round:
#1: 16
#2: 12
#3: 9
#4: 7
#5: 5
#6: 4
#7: 3
#8: 2
#9: 1
#10: 0
Ties will result in the tied players getting the higher number of points with the player below that skipping a spot. So if 2 players are #1 they each get 16 points with number #2 getting #3's points, which is 9.
Most number of points at the end of round 2 wins.
There are 10 spots, just post "/in" to participate and send me a PM with your number.
Important: "Trash" talking and bluffing is specifically allowed and encouraged. You are allowed to say: "I'm going to submit 0" and of course this isn't binding in any way and you could submit something else or still 0.

Everybody submit 0, so we all win.
If somebody deviates from plan, he will only screw himself, as average will still be closer to 0.
Go.

Let's break a game for once.

oh, and /in.

Do as you please!
You're also allowed to make Grujah the only loser. ;D

/in.
Submitted 0 as per plan.
-
Ah, but if I submit a ridiculously large number, then the player who submits just slightly above 0 would win, right? :P
-
unless somebody submits a bit more ridiculously large negative number.
But why would you that, when 0 is the way to win?
-
Im going to submit a large negative nmber, just to offset Ehal!
Mwuahaha
-
for same effect, both submit 0 instead.

Well then it depends on which abs(number) is larger!

In, and PM sent.

WARNING: I DID NOT SUBMIT THE NUMBER ZERO.

Did you submit positive or negative? We can skew things more. :D

WARNING: I DID NOT SUBMIT THE NUMBER ZERO.
why not, when it is the route to win?
-
I submitted 64^4,603,280. I don't know why, but it seemed like the right thing to do.
-
you know you can win with that number?
Submit 0 instead.
-

I'm not a 0 kinda guy.
-
So you submit a number that is bound to lose?
-
ITT: Everybody submits 0 and trolls me.
-
So you submit a number that is bound to lose?
If I submit a very large number and he submits a very large number that is still smaller than my very large number, then he could win.
-
So you submit a number that is bound to lose?
No, because if I declare that I'm submitting a number sufficiently high enough to skew the results in some undefined manner towards one extreme, then it behooves each individual player to try to increase their individual bid to get as close to theoretical new average as possible. If I submit 10,000 in a 10 player game, then there's a good chance that the "average" will be closer to "1,000" than to "0". Of course, this doesn't account for the combination of negative numbers, but I if I propose to go sufficiently high enough that those are irrelevant then it no longer matters. The best bet to "win" at that point for any other player is to try and meet my newly created theoretical average. And the more people I can get to increase their submission, the higher that average will go. Until, taken to the extreme, my eventual submission becomse the very average everybody is trying to achieve!
......

Or we all submit 0 and win.

Or we all submit 0 and win.
The person who submits 1 will win.
-
keyword: _ALL_
if one guy submits 1, there must be at least another zero-breaker for 1 to win.

Shared victory is not much different from shared loss. ;)

I've never had a sister to kiss, but I concur.

I though this community was all about finding edge cases ... guess I was wrong.

If one player submits infinity, doesn't that make the average incalculable?
-
Or actually doesn't that make the average also infinity? Making the best thing to submit infinity? As by merely submitting it you are making it the average and winning?
-
Infinity is not itself an integer.
-
Ahhh, okay, right, I just looked at the bounds, and went off down that road.
-
Well as long as nobody submits Graham's number.

Careful, you are starting to tread too close.

4 more spots! I don't want to let this topic go too long so just submit something if you want to join.
If everyone submits the same number, I may have to revise some rules for round 2. ;D
Not saying that everyone did of course, maybe they did, maybe they didn't, but just to let you know.
Making duplicate entries last looks like a fun rules adjustment, but I'll decide if that's necessary before round 2.
-
Not fair, I submitted with current rules in mind. ;D

You're the host, but as a player I'm always left a bit unsettled when the rules are changed during the play of a game. I recognize that it may be unavoidable, but I'd like to suggest letting the game play out the way you set it up, then making adjustments prior to the start of the next game, if you run another.
-
I also seriously doubt that you'll have any issue when all 10 entries are submitted.
-
Seriously, who wants to TIE for a win, thats not 'real' winning is it!
Charlie Sheen would notbe pleased.
So I too have submitted a long number, just to destroy the namby pamby 'lets all share 0 and win together' peaceniks!

I like that terminology, which I've never heard before. A long number.
Is that a translation thing? I don't mean translation, really, but a lift=elevator, lorry=truck sort of thing.

A Long is a 64-bits integer in some computer languages.

Hmm, I'm beginning to wonder if the large number I submitted is essentially zero in the face of some of the other discussion.
Not really. Psych!
