Title: Diamond (I know, everyone uses this name)

Quote
Diamond
$2 Treasure

+$6

-$1 per Diamond in the supply.  Return this card to the supply.

You only play with six cards in the Diamond supply pile.

FAQ:

* If you Counterfeit a Diamond, you do not trash it.  Suppose there are three Diamonds in the supply.  When you Counterfeit a Diamond you will play it once, producing $3 and return it to the supply, and then play it a second time producing $2.  The Counterfeit "loses track" of the Diamond, and so it is not trashed.

* If Diamond is in the Black Market deck, there is no Diamond supply pile.  If you play a Diamond acquired from the Black Market, it will produce $6 and will remain in your deck as there is no supply pile to return it to.  If you Counterfeit a Black Market copy of Diamond, then you will trash it since Counterfeit does not lose track of the card.

I think it's a neat idea, but I may want to tweak the price or the number of Diamonds in the supply.  The idea is that it is worth more when Diamonds are scarce in the supply.  To prevent them from growing too overwhelming, they are returned to the supply when played, thereby weakening successive Diamonds.  I feel that they produce an interesting dynamic, wherein they are more valuable when you and your opponent each hoard them, but by spending them you devalue your opponents Diamonds.  I priced them low since they are essentially one-shots.  I imagine that they would be popular targets of spare buys in two player games, and situationally even with single buys in larger multiplayer games if others go for them.  I imagine buying a couple in a four player game to make them attractive to the other players, and then spending mine while they hold theirs.  Another interesting strategy would be to trash all but one of them, and use a spare buy to repurchase it each time you play it.

I like it! I have no way of knowing if it's balanced without testing it, but the idea is very cool. I may have to rename my 'Diamond Deposit' card so as not to conflict with this awesome card!

seems like the kind of thing that behaves very differently for different numbers of players.

The name also fits perfectly with the theme!

Nice card!

For sure.  But I don't think brokenly so...?

Also, I like how before Dark Ages you all would have looked at this and thought:  subtracts coins?  returns to the supply when played?  only six cards in the supply pile?  What sort shenanigans is this pebbles guy trying to pull?  But now it's more like, oh that's a cute way to value scarcity.

I try not to pick nits, but it probably should say "-$1 per Diamond in the supply, to a minimum of 0.  Return this card to the supply."

Otherwise, with 9 Diamonds in supply, the Diamond is worth -$3.  Can I buy a Copper with -$3?

Read the top post more carefully. There are only 6 Diamonds in the Supply.

Ah, I missed that.  Thanks.

Is your desired Counterfeit interaction consistent with Counterfeit/Spoils?

Are you asking if Spoils is returned to the Spoils pile when played by Counterfeit, rather than being trashed? If so, the answer is yes. It is not trashed.

I also wouldn't say that it's my desired result.  The Black Market interaction in particular is not desired.   But the FAQ is a place to clarify wonky rules, and not to put in exceptions.

I wish I could give you more +1s for this sentiment.

Might be too strong when gained from the Black Market. Probably more so than getting the only Curser from Black Market, since Cursers are strongest earlier in the game.

I am of the strong opinion that that interaction is not worth changing the card for. If anything, there could be a line in the FAQ instructing you not to put it in the Black Market deck. I'm usually against rules like that, but I think it might be warranted here.

You could get around it with wording.  For example, by changing the wording to something like:

"+1 coin for each Diamond that is absent from the Diamond supply pile."

Clunky wording, but it gives +0 if there is no Diamond supply pile (for then no Diamonds can be absent from it).  It would then, of course, be useless in the Black Market deck, but some cards already are.
