I finished the book last weekend, and then saw the movie. I really, really enjoyed both. As is usually the case, I would still recommend the book over the movie, but both were terrific.
Any other fans (or haters?) out there?

I liked the movie. I guess parts were ridiculous, but at least they were attempting something interesting. The visuals were compelling.

I adored Frobisher's letters. Unfortunately, the movie condenses that story too much, and it's arguably the least well-translated of the six stories (along with Luisa Rey's story), despite Ben Whishaw's perfect performance as RF.

Loved, loved, loved Cloud Atlas... read it a few months ago.
Picked up another book by the same author w/o realizing who wrote it, Black Swan Green.
Eva, Vyvyan Ayrs daughter, makes a cameo appearance--as does a woman in the Timothy Cavendish nursing home story--in the book. I didn't realize it for a while until I started making connections.
- Father was a composer.
- A young musician fell in love with her.
- From Belgium.
- And finally has a character listen to Cloud Atlas.
Anyways, I thought that was pretty cool. Black Swan Green is a completely different style than Cloud Atlas--although all the stories within it are completely different from each other. Sort of a more modern Catcher in the Rye, but vast differences from that as well.
