Title: Double Jack vs Double Jack Witch
Post by: GendoIkari on October 21, 2012, 02:27:05 pm
I won a game yesterday where I bought 2 Jacks and a Witch, and my opponent just bought 2 Jacks. Did I do the right thing? Could someone who uses the sims let me now which wins on average? I can't remember for sure, but I believe I bought Witch on turn 3 or 4, and the second Jack shortly after.

I think this has been discussed several times before, and if those are the only 2 kingdom cards to consider, the best play is 1 Jack, 2 Witches.

The generalization of this is the right number of Jacks (assuming you want one at all) is almost always 1 (the exception is when there is no other terminal you might want), and if there is nothing else to do with your $5, it's right to get a second Witch.

I ran a couple of simulations and your jack+witch strategy was fairly good. Quite often the sims show there isn't that much different between witch or jack when matched against each other though so the second witch probably depends upon timing and draws.

Thanks, both of you. In this set, there were little other factors beyond Jack and Witch. We both picked up Hoards after the first Gold, and got an Island instead of Duchy at some point. Other than that, pure BM.
