I can think of several things that are better.  They might not be dominion related, and if I were to fail my own solo challenge - I might even name some of them!

I"m currently eating a homemade fudgesicle.  Your argument is invalid.

Yeah, cheap shot, I know.

When I saw the similarly-named topic in the FunSockets Beta discussion, I clicked it expecting a similar joke topic. I thought about adding "hurr hurr nothing except maybe sex" to that thread, but figured I'd let the actual constructive topic stay constructive over there.

I'm with theory on this one.  Isotropic is better than playing in real life.

Does Iso provide coffee and cake?

I also think Isotropic is better than playing in real life. My opponents online actually challenge me, and there's no painful waiting to shuffle, or sneaking suspicions that my opponents are subtly cheating out of the sheer frustration of losing all the time.

However, here is my list of things better than isotropic:

My baby daughter.
My wife.
Not being in debt anymore. Woooo.

Have parents over/ go to parents' house.
You/they provide coffee/cake.
Play iso while in same location.
Profit.

Sir, you win.  Also, congratulations on not being in debt and on the baby!  Both are awesome feelings.

I think it depends on why you play games. My wife and I play games regularly with another couple. Part of the fun is playing the game and part of the fun is the social aspect and the conversation, which fills in the shuffling lulls. The added length does change the game, though. In our case the culprit in action chains, not shuffling. For example, I rarely go for a Minion deck anymore because the others get annoyed at how long it takes to go through the whole deck (aside from it being tougher to pull off in multiplayer anyway).

I've played isotropic with someone in the same room as me before...It was pretty awkward.

I'm shocked anyone likes playing IRL better than on isotropic, and I'm only semi joking.

I did this a lot with my friends earlier this year, we didn't think it was awkward though. :P We started out playing with the cards ALL the time but eventually the convenience of isotropic (not to mention all expansions!) won us over. I still prefer playing with cards with friends, though, it's more social. I definitely anticipate lots and lots more RL games when Dark Ages comes out.

I feel that I play better on isotropic, because a lot of information (cards left in each pile, cards left in draw, cards in deck) is just there. Whereas in real life, I'd actually have to count everything, and that makes me less inclined to keep track of things.

When I play IRL, it's more personal and fun. When I play on Iso, it's not as personal, so there's more drive to win. Still, Isotropic has definite benefits compared to physical cards. It's just not as silly.

IRL, multiplayer is less boring.

Ok, its taken me now now to get this joke.....I thought you had changed your mind and cleared some things that were critical of Iso for ages!

Now I feel dumb!

Gotta agree with this. Iso for 2p, in-person for anything else.

I do this sometimes with a friend who is quite good at the game (Immu91 on iso). Its actually a lot of fun, someone should actually invent a dominion drinking game or something!

we did this before. we played with only curse giving cards, and i think throne room for some reason. then, whenever you would gain a curse, you can take a drink instead (it's like trader).

May I choose to gain a drink when drinks are empty?

would something like "every time you buy a treasure card, you have to take a drink" work? you know, to encourage more engine-y type strategy.

Me too. I never actually played in real life but why would you want to shuffle?

I can't understand why anyone would want to play a good board game or card game on the computer instead of in real life O.o One of the major appeals of tabletop stuffs to me is the tactile aspect: in Dominion's case picking up cards when you buy them, putting down cards to make action trees when playing actions in an engine, picking up victory point tokens or trade route tokens for the mats, seeing and feeling your deck grow as the game progresses. All of that is just SO much more satisfying than clicking on some screen with a mouse. Similarly there's actually tension when using cards like Golem because the results aren't instantaneous: you have to reveal cards from your deck one at a time, whereas on isotropic you get shown the results of the Golem instantly which is nowhere near as fun as cycling through your deck one card at a time wondering what will be next, hoping you'll hit that Torturer or dodge that Bishop.

The only reasons I play on isotropic are for the challenge, because I don't own all the expansions and because I can't play often enough in real life due to others not being as interested in tabletop stuff as I am. But in every other possible way I can think of real life Dominion is preferable to isotropic (well, except Philosopher's Stone :P ).

Based on my experience, one hour IRL is enough time to play 1-3 games of Dominion (most commonly 2).

One hour on Isotropic is enough to play as many as 7-15 games of Dominion.

I imagine that would encourage simple BM.

Not after a couple of games. I would assume playing bm+x would be quite easy slightly buzzed but buying reasonable stuff for an elaborate engine is hard enough sober..

Not BM+X.  Just BM. ;)

Better yet, build a Goons engine then buy a big pile of Coppers
