Title: Playing A is similar to playing B then C
Post by: blueblimp on June 19, 2012, 02:09:42 am
Inspired by the discussion of Margrave in some other threads, try to find examples of single card effects that combine the effects of two other cards. This can be pretty loose.

The Margrave example: Playing Margrave is like playing a Council Room followed by a Militia, except without the +$2.

A couple other examples:

Playing 2 Labs is the same as playing a Village then a Smithy. In both cases, you net +0 actions and +2 cards.

Playing a Festival is similar to playing a Village then a Woodcutter, except with an additional +1 action.

Playing Masquerade is like playing a Shanty Town (you have no Actions in hand), where you draw Saboteur and Ambassador, and then you play Saboteur, causing your opponent to trash a Silver, but he reveals Trader to gain back a Silver instead of a Copper and then reveals Watchtower to put it on top of his deck (this Saboteur play burns off one of the +Actions from Shanty Town and has no other net effect), and then you play Ambassador and he foolishly decides not to reveal Trader or Watchtower, and gains whatever card you revealed, and you decide whether to keep a copy of that card or get rid of it entirely.

Playing Masquerade is just like that.

except in this case you can only receive the card you pass to your opponent.

Meanwhile, KC + Pawn =

Crossroads (with two greens in hand);
or Festival;
or Grand Market;
or Village + Village + Conspirator;
and probably many others.

Also, technically you mean Margrave = Village + Council Room + Militia without the $2.

And so one could suggest that Village + Conspirator + Lab + Margrave (in that order) = Village + Council Room + Militia.

Playing a Village and a Remake is like playing two Upgrades.
Playing two Fool's Gold is like playing a Platinum.
Playing a Spice Merchant and choosing +2 cards, +1 action is like playing an Upgrade if you played a Haven in the turn before.
Playing more than two Walled Villages is like playing the same number of regular Villages.
Playing three Labs and a Hamlet (discarding two cards) is like playing a Workers Village.
Playing an Outpost in an Outpost turn is like your enemy playing a Militia in his next turn.
Playing a single Treasure Map is like playing Feast and then revealing Watchtower to trash the card you gain.
Playing a Salvager without any cards in hand is like playing a Baron when Estates are empty and you choose not to discard an Estate.
Playing five Warehouses is like playing five Cellars if you do not play any other Action cards.
Playing two Labs and a Secret Chamber is like playing a Vault.
Playing any number of Throne Rooms without action cards in your hand is like playing any number of King's Courts.

Last, but not least:
Playing Followers is like playing two Villages, a Lab, a Baron, a Militia and a Witch. But only if you take an Estate with the Baron and use the second buy to buy a Copper or Curse which you then trash with a Watchtower.

Peddler = Village + Pawn (used for card + $1).
