A signup form will go live on the main page of the blog at June 18th, 1:00PM EDT (GMT -4). Actual distribution of the beta invites will occur at some later date.
When the beta invites do go out, we expect that they will be distributed in waves of approximately 50 invites each week. Those who have contributed either front-page articles to DominionStrategy.com or code to CouncilRoom.com will be given priority. Subsequently, beta invites will be distributed to a mix of the first to sign up and active community members. We think this is the best way to strike a balance between rewarding community participation and allowing equal access to all who are interested.
In any event, we expect there to be enough room such that everyone who is interested will, sooner or later, be able to take part.
If you have any concerns or feedback, please let us know.

I signed up for the BETA while in email contact with Trisha, who seems to be somewhat in charge of anwering all the questions about the app. Will I still have to sign up or do you think that's already covered?

I guess they will send you an invite directly, and give Theory his batches of fifty to hand out as he sees fit, and other invites will go to other people who deserve them. If they've told you directly you've got an invite, I'd assume you will get your invite directly.

Thats what I've heard, but I dont know why there isn't like a ton more information here if even one of them is a member of this form, athough I suppose theres probably an NDA so maybe thats why

we've waited what a year and a half now for an official version? an extra few days / weeks before the Beta is fully rolled out isn't really a big deal. enjoy isotropic while we can.

I think 50 people were initially invited, and the number will go up every few days, probably in increments of 50 initially. The people invited so far have not been on much; I have seen maybe 6 people in the room at once? This group included some Dominion playtesters and Funsockets-related people. As we speak the room just has me, CyberKev63, and FSAD.

I have seen myself, jonts, ftl, rrenaud, drheld, and a couple of others. It is unrelated to our signup, because we are only releasing our list to them today.
I have been so slammed with work and trying to organize this qualifier that I have only played a single game on FS. But I did beat rrenaud, take that!

Yeah, I've been testing the program out a bunch now. I know everyone is really anxious to hear all about it, and to be honest I'm anxious to start discussing it with more people, but I can't really talk about it on here. There are some things which probably would be ok, but in the interest of better safe than sorry, I will not be discussing any details at all on this forum.

Can you at least confirm my suspicions that 95% of all Dominion players in the beta test have a beard? Or at least some variant of facial hair?

(For example: NEW DOMINION ONLINE SUX BECAUSE IT DOESN'T [xxx]. FS fixes [xxx]. Someone googling for online Dominion finds [xxx] and concludes that online Dominion sucks.)
That having been said, since most of this forum will be beta testing it soon anyway, it will soon be unrealistic to have a communications blackout on this forum, especially as the site matures. So it's not infinite.

Currently the leaderboard is basically blank because most accounts have played no games. So let's not jump to conclusions about how their skill model works, because I am pretty sure that for any skill model, winning 1 game should rank you higher than winning 0 games :)

And I expect you all to blackball me ;)
The love/hate comment is because it means I get to the top by playing a lot, which means I have decently good chance to play a lot, but it also gives me an incentive to have no life play a lot.
Overall, I think systems rewarding quantity over quality of play are sub-optimal, but I'm going to assume the thing isn't near finalized. Also, I have no idea whatsoever about how it actually works. So you can assume most of what I say about it at this point is a joke.

The bots are ranked, that's the trick. So, no-one's on, play against the bot, beat it, advance. The bot was initially randomly given a rating of 20. Now it has lost enough that it's not visible, because the leaderboard doesn't scroll. I got my games in when beating the bot meant something.

I was on vacation when the beta went live on the front page and the initial signups were made. I assumed I'd missed my chance because surely all the testers they'd need are signed up by now, but perhaps I'm wrong? I wouldn't be prioritized for any reason but I am still interested in testing and giving input if that's a possibility. Is it still worth it for someone like me, a middle-level player and frequent poster on the forum, to sign up?

I think that her concern shouldn't exist for that situation. The question is one of whether the posts can be found by a spider. If they can, that's bad. If they can't, who cares? One might suggest that one of their aims ought to be to impress people on this board, which ought to encourage discussion here; making the forum viewable only by members will hide it from the public while keeping open discussion here.
In fact, I'd strongly suggest they should have a forum for discussion among beta testers, whether it's here or elsewhere.
Consider: If you toss "Dominion Forum Mafia" into Google, you get the "discussion of Mafia discussion" thread, and a bunch of random posts where people mention the Mafia games, but no posts from the Mafia subforum. The beta discussion would be instantly non-public.

FWIW I got into the beta without contributing any articles or such. I don't think I signed up until a week after the form went live. I do post a lot though.

I think he means that some precedence was being given to active forum members & front page article contributors, but if I recall those were going out WITH order of sign up as well, if you waited a week I think you got in based on activity.

Correct - if I understand it correctly - there were about ~20 people who met the "reward" criteria (code contributions, articles, etc.). The rest were first come / first served. Theory would need to weigh in on the exact ordering of the list, and then people with access would need to roleclaim in order to figure out how far down the list we currently are.

OK, colour me just slightly paranoid, maybe, but I got an email today which claimed to be inviting me to the Dominion online beta - but I don't remotely recognise the site it's directing me to, and it's not what I expected it would be based on this forum. Can someone confirm, please, by PM if necessary, that I'm looking at the right invitation and not going to get my identity stolen or whatever if I visit this site? I can't find any mention of it on google, or on this site, which makes me a little nervy. I'm eager to participate, but not if it's not the right thing.
Seems to me like this is too small for a phishing expedition, but FunSockets and Goko are the same people with two different company names. If you can explain to me why a company with no actual product already needs two DBAs, go ahead and let me know. But if the email came from Goko, it's safe.

I have no inside information here, but, "funsockets," doesn't that sound, kind of, uh, not well-thought-out? Funsockets. Anyway that's my guess as to why now it's goko, a safe nonsense term.

The beta is fun and all, but remember the reason you signed up, you're a beta tester. Go have fun, but make sure to feed back so the final version can be better (and make the feedback spreadsheet even bigger, it's already at just short of 200 entries ^.^)

Haven't been able to submit feedback as the page to do so wasn't working, but so far my feedback would be that the site needs a reconnect feature. Most of my dominion playing is over a fickle cell network via tether. If the connection drops you effectively quit the game. You can't reload and resume. Isotropic let you reconnect if this happened.

I was also wondering this. I have applied twice for a beta invite. Once when it was first released and again a few days ago. I thought I had read somewhere that invites were going to be handed out based on activity in the forums, but I thought I had seen some people with low activity level that have beta invites. Am I missing something?

Your sign up may have not gone through. I signed up on the first day, then asked Trisha, and she told me she didn't see me on the list. I probably forgot to hit a submit button on the form, or something like that.

I feel bad because I have an invite but have not been testing. I played like three or four games on the day I was invited, posted a few thoughts in the forum, and I haven't been back since. OTOH, I haven't been playing isotropic either.
Remember to check your junk mail folder.
