Not at all strategy related, but just saw this on the RGG website:

Sort of surprised there is no image in the corner, thought they might come up with something for this box. Maybe there will be in the printed version.

Also, wondering if this Amazon page is legit: http://www.amazon.com/Rio-Grande-Games-Dominion-Cards/dp/B007MKLX84/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1337973643&sr=1-2

Yeah, not paying $12 in shipping. I'll wait for it to show up in FLGS or regular Amazon.

I posted this over at BGG, but I'm wondering on the new Victory/Curse cards, how are we meant to tell how many Victory Points each is worth?
Some possibilities:
1. They will have small VP symbols overlaid with numbers on the top corners of the cards.
2. They will have the usual number next to the VP symbol overlaying the art somewhere in the middle of the card.
3. We're just supposed to know by now how many VP each of these cards is worth.
4. The art itself will somehow convey the number of VP each card is worth.
These are all kind of poor options, but I hope it's #2. #1 is ugly. #3 is a barrier to entry for new players. #4 just seems weird.

They might put the numbers in the upper corners of the card, like the value of Treasures.

Yes, that would be option #1 in my list.

Why couldn't it just be the number of victory points in the lower half with the artwork in the upper half? Basically, it'd have the same layout as Islands, Great Halls, etc. That's what I would expect.
While the base victory cards kind of set a baseline, I think that the subsequent victory cards have really set the standard.
-
Cool, feels a lot like 7 wonders artwork to me for some reason.

That would be nice, but they've already said that all the cards in the Base Cards set will have top-to-bottom art, like the new Gold card here.

Ah, that's why. I got nothing then. I was going to say that perhaps it's just in the rules that Estates, Duchies, and Provinces are always worth 1/3/6 but not really. While the pictures of these cards have the numbers, the rules don't specifically say that. The rules say that you total the number of shield icons.
-
I'm excited to finally be able to see what these are going to look like. However, have we ever heard what the extra thing was that they wanted to add to the Base cards set that caused distribution to be delayed another 1-1/2 months?
-
No, we have not.

There's now a new Duchy image released:

Well, we were all wrong about where the VP number was put. But now I'm just salivating more for the rest of them...

So I guess you think that symbol should be officially called...

YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll bet five bucks (read: I'm not betting anything) that the reveal today will be either the new Curse, or they'll show what Ruins or Shelters look like.

YEEAAAAAHH (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=1464.msg43697#msg43697) I do. Sometimes.

Nice. I like the VP number in the lower-right corner. That's a solution that didn't even occur to me.

for those of us to lazy to click the link
Uh, the image is visible in the post I quoted, on the previous page of this thread. I removed it on purpose.

He had me thinking there was a NEW image released. Tricksy hobbit.
-
The pictures look really nice, but I'm a bit sceptical about how they work out in practice. I mean, the reduced design of the 'old' cards does have its use, and it could be a bit of a visual overkill with all those big graphics lurking around.

I was worried about the same thing when I heard that the images would have art from the top bar to the bottom. And if the images were busier, like Feast's or something, that might be a problem. However, the Gold and the Duchy that I've seen have each used a very small range of colors and aren't too distracting, so I don't think visual overkill will be a problem. That being said, I'm now wondering whether Silver will have a silver border...

I am 99% certain it won't.

Why not? I guess it could be confusing for brand new players, but I don't expect too many brand new players to be buying the Base Cards set anyway.

Because all the Treasure cards have a gold border -- look at the current Gold, Silver and Copper, and Bank, Cache, Contraband, etc.
-
I am quite aware. But still, I wouldn't be bothered by a silver-bordered Silver or a copper-bordered Copper.
-

I would be bothered by that. I really like the consistency of Dominion cards. All Treasure cards are yellow. All Victory cards are green. All Reaction cards are blue. Etc.
-
I'm pretty happy with how these are looking so far. I wasn't originally planning on buying this basic cards set (since I don't need to replace the basic cards I have), but if the silver and copper look as good as the gold does, then I probably will, to make the treasure cards easier to distinguish.
-
You guys know what I want?
Entirely holographic base set cards a la Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh.
There ain't nothing else that screams "Dominion geek" as much as that.

Posted by someone at Origins who purchased a Base Cards set:
"Extra seems to be some type of card ... Says you use it by swiping it across your smartphone but I don't know how that would do any good "
From Rio Grande's press release about the delay:
"We have decided to postpone the release of the Dominion: Base Card item for 3-4 weeks in order to add something to the box that we hope everyone will find useful."
How is a smartphone swipey thing supposed to be useful to everyone? I know I don't have a smartphone.

Maybe it links to the official app page

Or maybe a free trial for the new online site?

I was really really hoping it would be the Blue Dog promo card.

Someone on BGG said they've uploading pics of the new cards, and they're currently pending.

Yeah, it kinda ties in with Ill-Gotten Gains.

Curse is definitely the coolest one, nice. This'll help in counting money!

I love how Copper, Silver, Gold are just heaps of money, and then Platinum is just this enigmatic triangle of opulence.
-
I especially like the treasure, the variance in colors as opposed to the old cards. Curse looks nice.
