Title: Greatest Isotropic Moments of 2012
Post by: Biderman on January 13, 2012, 04:05:14 pm
This topic was split from the Greatest Isotropic Moments of 2011 thread

Sadly this was on the 9th... But I can't resist, so here's a challenge to beat for next year ^_^

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120109-082209-c5d53456.html

#1 Biderman: 317 points (227 ▼, 7 Colonies, 5 Nobles, a Province, and 4 Estates); 24 turns
          opening: Wharf / nothing
#2 mayasquer: 49 points (3 Provinces, a Colony, 2 Duchies, 3 Nobles, 5 Estates, and 4 ▼); 25 turns

If not the most points, I'm willing to bet I got the most points in one turn.... 30 buys, 6 Goons in play, I buy 4 Colonies, 1 Provence, 1 Estate, and 18 Coppers for a total of 180+40+6+1=227 points in one turn. The sad thing about this turn is that I had $54 and there were 5 Colonies left :/

I'm sure your opponents deck was in no position to come back, but it would seem the correct move in that position would have been to buy the 5 remaining Provinces, 1 Colony and 1 Estate for 41 points instead of 4 Colonies 1 Province and 1 Estate for 47 points.  This nets 6 less points, (and reduces the mega turn to 221 total points) but would have ended the game.

True. I actually could have gone through the provinces a few turns earlier but when you realize u can pick up Platnums while gaining 10 VPs a turn indefinitely...

I just played this game. The last turn makes this game a great moment. After this I raged at the swindler IRL with 20 curse words. I also said "REALLY" 3 times in-chat when that happened. My opponent just lol'ed. Good game benj4130

But you weren't going to win if you had bought that Colony anyway...

Is there going to be a 2012 thread?

--- colin's turn 11 ---
colin does nothing.
(colin draws: a Black Market, a Silver, a Copper, and 2 Curses.)

   --- chriskern's turn 11 ---
   chriskern does nothing.
(chriskern draws: a Black Market, a Curse, 2 Silvers, and an Envoy.)

      --- Rick's turn 11 ---
      Rick does nothing.
(Rick draws: an Estate, 2 Coppers, and 2 Curses.)

This is the result of Sea Hag + no 2-cost card.  Even so I've never seen all 3 players skip their turns in a row.

Props to everyone else's stuff, definitely some good lulz in there!

Nine empty piles at the end of this game.  (I've never seen more than six empty piles in any other game.)  49 buys on my last turn, 61 total buys in my last two turns.

You play a Swindler.
... You get +$2.
... hiker turns up a Trusty Steed and trashes it.

... You replace hiker's Trusty Steed with a Curse.

Finally, an epic fail which I'm sure many of you are familiar with but many players probably haven't seen it either.

This is from a turn after I got possessed, and I have not bothered to include some actions before I played the Outpost.  Look what happens at the end:

Wolphmaniac plays an Outpost.
Wolphmaniac plays a Silver and 5 Coppers.
   Wolphmaniac buys a Gardens.
   Wolphmaniac buys a Gardens.
Wolphmaniac returns a Silver to the top of the deck.
   (Wolphmaniac reshuffles.)
(Wolphmaniac draws: a Silver, a Copper, and an Estate.)

--- drvitek's turn 10 ---

So yeah...never play an Outpost after getting Possessed!  You end up with no extra turn AND a 3-card hand on your next turn!

Opening Throne Room-Swindler is always a risky prospect. On the off chance you do collide, you've likely won the game.

Unless....

— allfail's turn 3 —
allfail plays a Throne Room.
... and plays a Swindler.
... ... getting +$2.
... ... O turns up an Estate and trashes it.
... ... replacing O's Estate with an Estate.
... and plays the Swindler again.
... ... getting +$2.
... ... O turns up an Estate and trashes it.
... ... replacing O's Estate with an Estate.
allfail plays 3 Coppers.
allfail buys a Governor.
(allfail draws: 2 Estates and 3 Coppers.)

Yes, yes, the 2011 list hasn't been published yet, but since people are already starting to submit their great 2012 moments, I think it'd be best to move them into this topic.

So even though the logs don't explicitly say what is passed with Masquerade, it's not too hard to piece it together from this bit of the game log (http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120429-120928-02121940.html):

Code: [Select]
   — michaeljb's turn 13 —
michaeljb plays a Stash and 2 Coppers.
   michaeljb buys a Silver.
(michaeljb draws: a Gold, a Silver, a Copper, and 2 Curses.)

— Tarski's turn 14 —
Tarski plays a Village.
... drawing 1 card and getting +2 actions.
Tarski plays a Masquerade.
... drawing 2 cards.
... trashing a Curse.
Tarski plays a Masquerade.
... drawing 2 cards.
... trashing a Curse.
Tarski plays a Gold and a Copper.
Tarski buys a Walled Village.
(Tarski draws: a Gold, a Walled Village, 2 Coppers, and a Curse.)

   — michaeljb's turn 14 —
michaeljb plays a Gold, a Silver, and 3 Coppers.
   michaeljb buys a Province.
   (michaeljb reshuffles.)
(michaeljb draws: 3 Stashes, a Silver, and an Estate.)

He trashed 2 of my Curses for me, giving me Coppers in exchange. How nice of him!

Context: My opponent has 6 Provinces, I have 2 Islands and no other points. I've spent all game screwing up and building some very slow Horn of Plenty-Remake-City engine. Then on turn 18...

I don't know if people piledrive Colonies in one turn very often, but for me it's still a rare sight, more so when using Highway (no +Buy) instead of Bridge, relying on Council Room and 2 KC'd Festivals to get exactly 8 Buys:

Code: [Select]
   --- Davio's turn 13 ---

My lower level player goes for an odd treasure-map based strategy that gets crushed by my Trading Post turn 1 -> BM. But his last turn might have made it all worth it...

sullamenashe plays a Golem.
... (sullamenashe reshuffles.)
... revealing an Estate, a Silver, a Treasure Map, a Copper, a Gold, a Gold, a Silver, and a Watchtower.
... discarding the 2 Silvers, the Estate, the Copper, and the 2 Golds.
... playing the Treasure Map first.
... ... trashing the Treasure Map.
... ... trashing a Treasure Map from hand.
... ... gaining 4 Golds on the deck.
... playing the Watchtower second.
... ... drawing 4 cards.
sullamenashe plays 2 Silvers and 4 Golds.
sullamenashe buys a Duchy.
sullamenashe puts a Golem back on the deck.
(sullamenashe draws: 2 Silvers, a Golem, a Hamlet, and a Trading Post.)

I never had gotten The Flash or Megaturn achievements until today. I wasn't expecting to get both of them in the same game..

Embassy, King's Court, Bridge on the board. We both open 5/2 and I get damn close to an optimal game (You probably can pull off 8 provinces turn 7/8, I don't think colonies.

Worst Tactician turn I've ever seen.  My pre-draw hand was Curse, Copper, Estate, Monument, Witch.

(You reshuffle.)
You draw 3 Curses, an Estate, and a Copper and get +1 action and +1 buy from your Tactician.
You play a Monument.
... You get +$2 and +1 ▼.
You play a Witch.
... You draw 2 Curses.
... Malinda gains nothing.
... Rick gains nothing.
... ellie gains nothing.
You play 2 Coppers.
You buy a Horse Traders.

In which it takes us 28 turns to empty the Provinces, with the strongest attack being....

NOBLE BRIGAND

There were 4 coppers left in the supply at the end of the game (20 in the trash).

I just played a game where my opponent's single Pirate Ship hit 4 of my Potions. The first two hits were before the Potions had even been in my hand, and the third was after using it only once. I've never seen such a lucky Pirate Ship.

My personal favorite (cross posted):

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/15/game-20120615-200917-68e773a9.html

2 turns where both players do not buy a province (or two or three) for fear the other player can pick up three in one turn.
Then a turn where four province take the hit.

And without even King's Court!

(Which makes me think: Most provinces in one turn in a real game without Bridge, Highway, or King's Court?)

I've been partial to games where HoP megaturns are possible lately and here's one where I was actually able to get the "MegaTurn" feat on CouncilRoom with an HoP mega turn.  Another fun fact about this game:  Overinvesting on Potions was a huge key here (I had 3 at game's end) because with Bridge in play I was able to pick up multiple Alchemists on the same turn.  Here's my last turn:

I know that KC-Bridge megaturns don't usually count as "greatest Isotropic moments", but in this game I played a little while ago against theory, it's not the megaturn itself that I want to count as a great moment so much as how I set it up:

5 Grand Markets, 2 Farming Villages, 2 Fool's Golds, 1 Rabble, 1 Salvager, 2 Silvers, 1 Province

Turn 14 ...
glengarry buys a Province.
   glengarry buys a Province.

 [26 cards]
5 Grand Markets, 3 Farming Villages, 2 Rabbles, 1 Chapel, 1 City, 4 Silvers, 2 Provinces

with my opponent representing a max buy of 18, i felt pretty good.

anyhow, i'm pretty bad at estimating draw odds, but i think my 1/10000 math is pretty sound.
(5/18 x 4/17 x 3/16 x 2/15 x 1/14) = .0001136

of course, with the extra turn, he got there.

>:(

Well, you can fail even worse by picking up one Fool's Gold (or a Farming Village picking up a Fool's Gold). So there are two FGs, of which you can get one, and a FG can be drawn three ways (FG, or FV -> FG, or FV -> FV -> FG).
5/18 * 4/17 * 3/16 * 2/15 * 1/14 +
5/18 * 4/17 * 3/16 * 2/15 * 2/14 +
5/18 * 4/17 * 3/16 * 2/15 * 2/14 +
5/18 * 4/17 * 2/16 * 3/15 * 2/14 +
5/18 * 2/17 * 4/16 * 3/15 * 2/14 +
2/18 * 5/17 * 4/16 * 3/15 * 2/14

= ( 5 * (5*4*3*2*2) + (5*4*3*2*1) ) / (18*17*16*15*14)
= ( 5 * 3 * (5*4*3*2) ) / (18*17*16*15*14)
= 1 / 571.2

We'll ignore FV -> FG, because that makes the problem significantly complex and is a highly unlikely corner case.

We're also assuming that one point is sufficient for you to win. If you need a Duchy, you can add a GM to any of those, or change the FG to a Silver, putting us around 1/250. If you need to kill the Province pile, most hands with no Salvager or Rabble will suffice, so you're probably well below 1/100 (but the calculation gets complicated at that point).

So it's not quite on the scale of 10,000 to 1, but ouch. Your deck did pick an amusing way to screw you though.

Not exactly the "greatest" moment, but I found this interesting:

— father patrick's turn 14 —
father patrick plays a Steward.
... getting +$2.
father patrick plays a Silver.
father patrick plays a Silver.
father patrick buys a Farmland.
... trashing a Copper.
... gaining an Estate.

(this was his final turn of the game)

So... in essence, this poor soul paid $6 to get as many VP as a Duchy ($5)... while reducing the money density of his deck by 3 cards (losing a copper, gaining 2 different green cards). The irony is, this kind of move would make sense if he had any Silk Roads. They were in the kingdom... but he didn't buy any. D'oh!

Without seeing the log it isn't clear, but it could be a longshot play to Farmland a Farmland into a Province in the future.

All Provinces are gone.
ajmiam wins!

(Backstory:  I had a 12-point lead but my opponent had just emptied the City pile, giving him a 9-1 split, last turn.  Hamlets were also gone, and he had just gained 4 Silvers and bought 3 Duchies last turn, so I was very afraid of what he could do with just one more turn.)

Slightly less awesome than trashing two provinces with Trading Post, but:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/27/game-20120727-093234-c923c4d4.html

— Your turn 23 —
You play a Walled Village.
... You draw a Copper and get +2 actions.
You play a Masquerade.
... You draw a Silver and a Copper.
... You pass a Copper to notawitch.
... You receive a Copper from Zyth.
... You trash a Province.
You play a Gold, a Silver, and 3 Coppers.
You buy a Province.
You return a Walled Village to the top of your deck.

Why even bother trashing the Province?

Because I... um... am an idiot.

And thereby making this a candidate for Greatest Isotropic Moments, but for a different reason.

Doh.

(Thought process was: "OK, trash a copper.  Wait, I don't have to trash the copper, if I don't, I can buy the last province and win."  Somehow my brain never made it to "hey, moron, don't trash anything".)

my back-of-envelope calculations have the odds of this draw at .0113 percent...

from this deck:  [18 cards]
5 Grand Markets, 2 Farming Villages, 2 Fool's Golds, 1 Rabble, 1 Salvager, 2 Silvers, 1 Province

Turn 14 ...
glengarry buys a Province.
   glengarry buys a Province.
   glengarry buys a Province.
   glengarry buys an Estate.
   (glengarry reshuffles.)
(glengarry draws: 4 Provinces and an Estate.)

this was after to go up 25/12 with 1 provi left in the deck and my knowing oppo has with a fresh draw off this deck:

Is it just me or can't this be calculated as binomial coefficient
(22)
(5 ) =  26334
So odds are 1/26336 ?

You're half-right. It can be done with combinatorics (my stats skills are too rusty, so I essentially did combinatorics via the long way above), but there are more than five dead cards. He loses in far more ways than by drawing all his green, although drawing all the green is the funniest.

A couple recent games.

Never buy provinces when you can get points with Goons (http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120801-211830-00f814f8.html)
...in which I was always terribly behind, and he bought 6 provinces, but somehow pulled a 22-point comeback in the final turn, with exactly enough money and buys (well okay, I could have gotten a copper instead of the last estate).

Why doesn't this count as Champion Prize Fighter? (http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120801-225409-6972190b.html)
...in which, using a Menagerie / Loan deck, I manage to get all five prizes on turn 12. He had some pretty terrible luck with never drawing any of his three provinces to counter my tournaments. Of course, I think the reason it doesn't count is because of the Outpost, but that doesn't stop this from being pretty cool.

   ycz6 buys an Estate.
/*at this point, ycz6 posts something in the chat to the effect of "oops" but I don't notice until later.*/

   --- ajmiam's turn 17 ---
ajmiam plays 2 Coppers, a Gold, and a Silver.
   ajmiam buys an Estate.

   --- ycz6's turn 18 ---
ycz6 plays a Jack of All Trades.
   ... gaining a Silver.
... discarding the top card of the deck.
   ... drawing 1 card.
   ycz6 plays a Silver.
   ycz6 plays a Gold.
   ycz6 buys a Tunnel.
   /*now, ycz6 posts "<_<" in the chat and I feel like a total idiot.*/

I bought a Tunnel next turn, but it was too late.  Later on I had $8 and couldn't buy the last Province or I'd lose by 1.  Final score: him 46, me 35.

ajmiam buys a Bridge.
ajmiam buys a Shanty Town.
(ajmiam reshuffles.)
(ajmiam draws: 3 Bridges, a Spice Merchant, and a Copper.)

...

--- ajmiam's turn 10 ---
ajmiam plays a Spice Merchant.

ajmiam plays an Apprentice.
... trashing a Bishop.
... drawing 4 cards /*Shanty Town, Silver, and 2 King's Courts*/ and getting +1 action.
*Insert the infamous Bridges over King's Courts full house combo here, giving me my 2nd ever Megaturn award on Councilroom.com*
To this, all my opponent had to say in the chat was "lol."

I mean, what are the odds that my Spice Merchant would immediately draw me my mistaken buy as well as the one card that could turn it into something useful?

Next time empty provinces, you don't want to allow a possible mega-turn for no reason. Or three-pile. If you can end the game with a points lead, you should always end the game.

But I knew that his deck could.

So it's a four player game, I've got King's Courts, Stables, and money galore, and one of my opponents keep having their king hold court in council rooms-- pretty awesome! But  the first player to buy early Possession just so happens to be to my right, and he keeps possessing my wonderful eight-card starting hands, using my deck to buy Provinces rather consistently while my sloppy seconds five-card hands can't really do that-- pretty terrible!

Except his mad rush for points and slight misunderstanding of Possession's effects results in this:

Quote
   --- minakichan's turn (possessed by Omy29) ---
   minakichan plays a King's Court.
   ... and plays a King's Court.
   ... ... and plays a Stables.

... ... and plays the Stables a third time.
   ... ... ... discarding a Copper.

   ... ... ... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
... and plays the King's Court again.
   ... ... and plays a Bishop.
   ... ... ... getting +$1 and +1 ▼.
   ... ... ... minakichan trashes a Province and gets +4 ▼.
   ... ... ... TW2012 trashes nothing.
   ... ... ... Omy29 trashes a Copper.
   ... ... ... Badoosh trashes nothing.
... ... and plays the Bishop again.
   ... ... ... getting +$1 and +1 ▼.
   ... ... ... minakichan trashes a Copper.
   ... ... ... TW2012 trashes nothing.
   ... ... ... Omy29 trashes nothing.
   ... ... ... Badoosh trashes nothing.
... ... and plays the Bishop a third time.
   ... ... ... getting +$1 and +1 ▼.
   ... ... ... minakichan trashes a Gold and gets +3 ▼.
   ... ... ... Badoosh trashes nothing.
   ... ... ... TW2012 trashes nothing.
   ... ... ... Omy29 trashes nothing.
... and plays the King's Court a third time.
... ... but plays no action with it.
   minakichan plays 3 Silvers.
   minakichan buys a Province.
   ... Omy29 gains the Province.
   (minakichan reshuffles.)
(minakichan draws: a Stables, 3 Silvers, and a Bishop.)
minakichan discards the "trashed" cards (a Gold, a Copper, and a Province).

You might see the problem here, but my unfortunate opponent didn't: Yup, Possession says nothing about VP and they therefore all go to the possessed player. In this Possessed turn, he gains a 6-point Province but gives me 10 VP. This happened several times throughout the entire game-- even with some King's Courted Possessions-- and he usually Bishopped the biggest cards for the biggest number of points.

I dropped a few hints, and I know I probably should have explained the situation, but... it was kind of glorious for me and I wanted to see how far it could go (sorry, opponent!).

I think the best moment in the game is around turn 13 though-- another opponent gets a similar idea and plays King's Courts Possession, giving the last opponent (Badoosh) 29 VP without having to lift a finger. Unfortunately, it seems that Badoosh, as my only opponent who likely truly understood Possession, saw how I was getting unfair amounts of free VP and resigned just beforehand, missing out on this huge VP spike completely-- ouch!

This is the extremely rare double mega: all Colonies and Provinces in one turn.  Also picked up all 8 Duchies, a Nobles, and an Estate.  7 Goons in play.

8(10) + 8(6) + 8(3) + 1(2) + 1(1) + 26(7) = 337 points in one turn (377 total).

Someone mentioned 5 Rabbles in this thread somewhere. I've created a thread for 5 Governors in the Game Reports section. (I won that game.)

5 Curses is hilarious though. I once drew 4 Curses with a Throne Room, biggest facepalm moment I ever had on Isotropic.

When I decide to pop in here with a fun 5-card hand I just got, I see that I'm not the only one. I think my hand was more playable than most of the others in this thread.

 — Lekkit's turn 20 —
   Lekkit plays an Adventurer.
   ... (Lekkit reshuffles.)

   Lekkit plays a Hoard.
   Lekkit plays a Hoard.
   Lekkit buys a Province.
   ... gaining a Gold.
   ... gaining a Gold.

As a side note: this was my last turn, so I didn't get to play my fun hand. And also, when the game ended, I had 7 Golds in my deck.

It's atypical but not incorrect. Less uncommon in British English.

I was quite please with my turn 16 at http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/04/game-20120504-104120-5339cea1.html (http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/04/game-20120504-104120-5339cea1.html).

Essentially the previous turn I had 0 cards in my deck and bought an inn, shuffling 3 Grand Market's, 8 Peddler's, 6 Worker's Village and a Treasury into my deck, and then put 2 Treasuries back on top.

Using the intricate, complex, Scout-Scheme (draw scout)-Scout strategy, I successfully get a 9 card hand using scout only as drawing power.

So we had one of those City/Grand Market games, where those two piles had emptied and we were racing to see how many Provinces we could take down before the game ended. Going into the last turn, I was pretty sure I was behind, but I could take two Provinces, which I thought would be enough if I three-piled. Unfortunately, with only $21 in hand, there wasn't any way to take two Provinces and three-pile...

...or so my opponent must have thought.

I think this would be cooler if you had played at least 1 City before gaining the last City. That way you'd be able to see City played at level 1, 2, and 3 all in the same turn; which would be awesome.

But in this case, it's done because he's ahead, but he needs every Treasure to buy the last Province and end the game.

I've forced the game to end by deliberately Amb'ing Provinces or Colonies before. It's fun when you've counted and know it works :)

Both of us played rather poorly this time and the game went very messy with torturers and mountebanks.

ASCII art !
The fun part is you only have to play 1 TR for the cascade effect as opposed to KC where you can choose not to play anything.

This one is pretty comical, but it takes a little bit of a walk through:

- I open Swindler/Spice Merchant
- On my next run through the deck I pick up a Treasure Map
- In that same deck cycle, zporiri Swindles my Spice Merchant. He hesitates before turning it into a Treasure Map
- I buy a warehouse to cycle
- On my next turn (first turn after the reshuffle), I draw the two treasure maps

Best Swindle ever.

(Even better, the next time I get Swindled, he hits my Province. Which is fantastic in a Treasure Map game... Best Swindler ever...)

 — ednever's turn 3 —
   ednever plays a Swindler.
   ... getting +$2.
... zporiri turns up a Copper and trashes it.
   ... replacing zporiri's Copper with a Curse.
   ednever plays 2 Coppers.
   ednever buys a Treasure Map.
(ednever draws: an Estate and 4 Coppers.)

— zporiri's turn 4 —
zporiri plays a Swindler.
... getting +$2.
... ednever turns up a Spice Merchant and trashes it.
... replacing ednever's Spice Merchant with a Treasure Map.
zporiri plays 3 Coppers.
zporiri buys an Upgrade.
(zporiri draws: an Estate, a Warehouse, a Silver, and 2 Coppers.)

   — ednever's turn 4 —
   ednever plays 4 Coppers.
   ednever buys a Warehouse.
   (ednever reshuffles.)
(ednever draws: 2 Treasure Maps and 3 Coppers.)

— zporiri's turn 5 —
zporiri plays a Warehouse.
... (zporiri reshuffles.)
... drawing 3 cards and getting +1 action.
... discarding 3 cards.
zporiri plays a Silver and 3 Coppers.
zporiri buys an Upgrade.
(zporiri draws: an Estate, an Upgrade, a Curse, and 2 Coppers.)

   — ednever's turn 5 —
   ednever plays a Treasure Map.
   ... trashing the Treasure Map.
... trashing a Treasure Map from hand.
... gaining 4 Golds on the deck.
   ednever plays 3 Coppers.
   ednever buys a Warehouse.
(ednever draws: 4 Golds and a Copper.)

About a year ago I nearly managed the following but missed the play.

Open $4 / Watch Tower.
Turn 3 opponent swindler my $4 into Treasure map.
I have Watchtower and 4 Copper in hand. (I trash the incoming treasure map)
Then realise I could top deck it, then buy another treasure map on my turn and top deck that as well.

On Turn 20
Quote
Presecutor Godot sips his coffee and plays an Ambassador.
   ... mandolin007 reveals a Moat.
... Presecutor Godot sips his coffee and reveals a Copper.
... returning it to the supply.
Presecutor Godot sips his coffee and buys a Province.
Presecutor Godot sips his coffee and buys a Province.
(Presecutor Godot sips his coffee and reshuffles.)
(Presecutor Godot sips his coffee and draws: a Province, 2 Conspirators, an Ambassador, and an Inn.)

I guess you'll have to take my word for it since intent isn't in the logs but this is the only time someone has stopped me from giving them a province.

Drawing the whole deck with scrying pool :
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201211/10/game-20121110-061437-810e8793.html
Turn 13 : first action, scrying pool ; only one non-action card in my deck, drawing it last !!!
With bridges, conspi and villages, i know a full-action deck would have been really powerful but i was a bit lucky !!!

Realistically, though, he has enough Labs and cantrips that with the second SP, drawing his deck is pretty much guaranteed. The only interesting part is doing it the easy way (or is that the hard way?).

I would have been more impressed by the "epic fail" version, where the SP draws all the Bridges and then the Potion.

I open 5/2 on a board where it's probably no better than 4/3. I decide to grab Lighthouse over Pearl Diver as the 2; the the only attack is Followers so it's defense probably won't matter.

My opponent get Followers, and plays it three times.

First time doing this (see bold):

You play a Governor.
... You get +1 action.
... You draw a Crossroads, a Silver, and a Province.
... mathaztec draws 1 card.
You play a Governor.

You play a Conspirator.
... (You reshuffle.)
... You draw a Silver and get +1 action and +$2.
You play a Conspirator.
... You draw a Silver and get +1 action and +$2.
You play a Governor.
... You get +1 action.
... You gain a Gold.
... mathaztec gains a Silver.
You play a Governor.
... You get +1 action.
... (You reshuffle.)
... You draw a Gold.
... mathaztec draws 1 card.
You play a Governor.
... You get +1 action.
... You trash a Gold.
... You gain a Province.
... mathaztec trashes a Nomad Camp.
... mathaztec gains a Duchy.
You play a Nomad Camp.
... You get +1 buy and +$2.
You play 5 Silvers.
You buy a Province.
You buy a Province.
(You reshuffle.)

I was playing Governor + Conspirator, so I hadn't picked up any Gold in the game. It was end game and I was worried mathaztec could at least double province and he was ahead by a significant margin. There were three provinces left. I had drawn my deck and had enough for two provinces. And I had 3 Governors.

Governor 1: Gain a Gold
Governor 2: +3 cards (draw the gold)
Governor 3: Trash a card, turn gold into province
Nomad Camp. Buy 2 provinces

Whew.

I had a fun turn today where my hand was:

Masquerade-Province-Gold-Silver-Harem

It was my opponent's turn and he played a Mining Village and his own Masq, I passed him my Masq hoping to get a Copper.
Alas, he passed me an Estate, but he played the Masq he got from me, passing me a Copper.
So by him playing 2 Masqs, one of which was mine, I end up with precisely enough for a Province.

It wasn't on Iso, but I was mucking around learning Dark Ages in Androminion when I noticed a combo on the board.  A few turns later, and I'd won a two-player non-Colony game with 85 points.

Remaking Feodum into Graverobber makes my Dominion-willy hard. :D

brokoli - chooses Moat
brokoli - plays Moat
brokoli - draws Copper, Gold

A game of King's Court, Ambassador and Alchemist:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201211/28/game-20121128-010621-9d3bc470.html

I played against ZiNOS, we both had roughly the same idea, get Alchemists, King's Courts and hit our opponent hard with Ambassadors. I wound up on top of the early Ambassador war, and was able to get some severe King's Court--King's Court-- Ambassador--Ambassador turns off against him, hitting him with Estates and Potions.

The reason I mention the game here is that I was very nearly too successful, we'd bought out the Alchemists, and when I dumped 11 Potions and all but one of the Estates in his deck, he actually had a large lead (with a huge and terrible deck) and we were 3 cards short of 3-piling.

Has it happened with KC-Ambassador that someone has dumped so much garbage in the opponent's deck that they actually lose on piles before they can buy Colonies/Provinces to make up the deficit from Estates?

Not with KC, but in a 4-player I was the only one who didn't get Ambassador. The game ended on Lighthouse/Fishing Village/Estate, and I had basically all the Estates.

Had an IRL game recently that ended on Fishing Villages, Estates and Ruins gone. I was the only one with a Province and I also had a couple of Duchies, but another guy got 13 Estates and two or so Duchies. I lost with 1 point in the end. This was a 4p game.

Just played a game on Goko with Chapel, Upgrade, Saboteur and Island, so there were lots of ways to get cards out of your deck. Talking on the phone, I didn't play very focused and had no real plan for the game, but the way the bot destroyed me was quite impressive.

After 14 turns the bot reduced its deck to two Upgrades, Fortress, Gold, Warehouse and Island.

Then turn 15 it was: play Upgrade, draw only card remaining, trash Fortress, gain Upgrade, play another Upgrade trashing the same Fortress, rinse and repeat. The Fortress was Upgraded 9 times to give the bot 7 remaining Upgrades and 2 Duchies.

Then it continued similar tricks for next 4 turns, Upgrading Fortress into Duchies, Duchies or Upgrades into Nobles and so on, till 3 piles were empty. Too bad Goko logs don't show trashed cards list, I would really like to see what ended up there :)

What did he end with?  Turn 19 isn't THAT fast, and it seems like he couldn't go after Provinces.  There is alt VP, but if he was trashing Duchy to get Nobles, that's not that great.  Plus you can contest Duchies yourself.

Defender Bot - cards: 6 Island, 4 Nobles, 3 Upgrade, 1 Fortress, 2 Gold, 2 Copper, 4 Duchy, 2 Estate (34 points, 19 turns)
hsiale_ - cards: 2 Nobles, 2 Island, 1 Chapel, 1 Saboteur, 1 Count, 4 Copper, 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Province, 2 Estate (28 points, 18 turns)

One more Province and I would win, I guess I'd do it if I played thinking only about the game. Overall his strategy probably looked was more impressive than efficient, seeing several Upgrades being played one after another with the same Fortress was something new to me and I didn't think it will work.

— ednever's turn 21 —

Even more funny is combined with turn 19:

ednever plays an Expand.

This is a first for me... Turn 21...

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201211/30/game-20121130-073335-6ba29ccd.html

— Your turn 21 —
You get +1 action and +$1 from your Fishing Village.
You play an Expand.
... You trash a Colony.
... You gain a Province.

— ednever's turn 22 —
ednever plays an Expand.
... trashing a Mountebank.
... gaining a Province.
(ednever draws: 2 Golds, an Expand, and 2 Coppers.)

All Provinces are gone.
ednever wins!

----
Even more funny is combined with turn 19:

— ednever's turn 19 —
ednever plays an Expand.
... trashing a Province.
... gaining a Colony.

I call it the two-step.

Ed

You might want to edit that to say "ednever's turn 21" (or copy-paste the log directly)... it took me a while to realize that those were both your turns, and not 2 different people's turns.

Didn't look at the full log, but why not ski the middle man and go province to province?

Thought about it. But I was't confident enough at that point to not take the extra 4vp.

Pretty proud of the last turn here:
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/07/game-20121207-094834-3b7e24d0.html

City game. Piles were running low, but no pile was empty - neither one of us wanted the other guy to get level 2 or 3 cities.

But with University and Develop on the board it was possible to activate cities mid-turn. Which was what I pulled off here.

What I like about this turn is that it used a lot of techniques that took me a long time to get:
- Activating cities mid-turn
- Watching the reshuffle very carefully (the previous turn I picked up Embassies for draw. And here I play a University to get a card just before the reshuffle is triggered)
- Using Develop effectively. And using it for it's top-decking in the end game - giving me exactly the card I need next
- Combining Highway/Bridge with gainers - using Develop to turn an Estate into a City
- Using University to pick up an Oasis- often the highest value card is not the right one to get at any given time
- Watching points carefully. I was ahead by one point - so all I had to do was empty three piles - I didn't need to get any VP (and three piles were at 1/1/2 cards left)

Here's the turn:

— ednever's turn 16 —
   ednever plays a University.
   ... getting +2 actions.
   ... gaining a Highway.
   ednever plays a City.
   ... (ednever reshuffles.)
... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions.
   ednever plays an Oasis.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action and +$1.
   ... discarding a card.
   ednever plays a Highway.

... reducing all costs by $1.
   ednever plays an Embassy.
   ... drawing 5 cards.

   ednever plays a Highway.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
... reducing all costs by $1.
   ednever plays a Golem.

   ednever plays a Highway.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
... reducing all costs by $1.
   ednever plays a Develop.
   ... trashing an Estate.
... gaining a City and put it on the deck.
... but there's no $-1 card to gain.
   ednever plays an Oasis.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action and +$1.
   ... discarding a card.
   ednever plays a City.
   ... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$1.
   ednever plays an Oasis.

   ... discarding a card.
   ednever plays a City.

I think I must have somehow drained out all the rage the last few days, because I was unusually calm about being first player on a Border Village/Torturer board, taking the lead on Torturers, and then still being on the receiving end of all the chaining nastiness and losing with absolutely ridiculously bad shuffle luck.

Specifically, on turn 15, at the end of the shuffle:

Played a game recently with Scrying Pool (and a bunch of other great engine cards i.e. Highway), Masq, and Black Market. I got Tounament and Mountebank from the Black Market deck, and he got Possession from the BM deck. He proceeded to Possess me and using my Masquerade pass himself the Mountebank, the Tournament, and more goodies such as Provinces.

I think he means, they both only bought one potion, and yet somehow the opponent got 8 Alchemists. If the opponent had gotten more than one potion, it could help explain how they got so many Alchemists.

There are times when you want two, I've found, both to get Alchs more quickly and to help set up the stack (by increasing the likelihood of finding a Potion when you still don't have many Alchs yet).

I don't claim to be an expert, but if I think Alchemist is going to be a key card, I will almost always pick up a second potion right away to win the split as well as keep the stack going, and it seems to have done me pretty well. When I do lose Alchemist games, it's because I either overestimated or underestimated how good they were for the set, not because I get out-Alchemist'd.

Another Goko one, but... sometimes, even when it probably isn't optimal, you feel compelled to ruin someone's day with a pin. Even if that someone is a bot.

And sometimes, just to rub salt in the wounds, you decide to end it by getting your Golfer achievement.

And I know from experience that you love trashing them for IMMEDIATE gain even more.

I opened Treasure Map/Chapel. My opponent opened Potion/Ambassador, and tried for Treasure Maps later.

I hit the jackpot early, got a province, then started investing in Wharves. Meanwhile, my opponent couldn't get his Treasure Maps to collide. So he gave up, and Ambassadored his two Treasure Maps over to me.

Check out what happened at my turn 15 (opponent's name censored):

Quote
   — TrojH's turn 15 —
   TrojH plays a Wharf.
... drawing 2 cards and getting +1 buy.
TrojH plays a Silver, 2 Coppers, and a Gold.
   TrojH buys a Duchy.
   TrojH buys a Haven.
(TrojH draws: 2 Treasure Maps, a Province, a Silver, and a Copper.)

— XXX's turn 16 —
XXX resigns from the game.

Emphasis mine. I got both of his Treasure Maps in my hand at the same time, but before I could cash them in, my opponent resigned.

I need a better poker face. My face is so easy to read, my opponent can read it through the internet.  ;)

There have been games when I had 4 to make really sure there is no disconnection of the chain after a familiar slog and when I had to recover via conspirators from losing the split. (http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20121225-163301-e6464f3c.html)

Let's end this with a magnificent misclick :
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/31/game-20121231-050342-f93c9dce.html

— ChocophileBenj's turn 12 —
ChocophileBenj plays a King's Court.
... and plays an Ambassador.

Not this one !

— ChocophileBenj's turn 15 —
ChocophileBenj plays an Ambassador.
... ChocophileBenj reveals a King's Court.

Here it is ! I wanted of course to play in the reversal order... I even had some estates in hand !
He eventually lost by taking a while to play (i didn't boot him !)
