I wonder how many other things there are which would motivate me to get up at 7 AM on the first Saturday after after my semester...but not many, I'm sure.

I'm really excited for this!

When would be too late to de-register if something comes up?

Will be OK to drop out until I finalise the bracket.
Which will be 1 hour before we start.
After that if you drop out, it will be a free win for your "lucky" opponent.

I've got work untill 15 and then it takes me about half an hour to get home. I could probably play my first game at work, but depending on when the second is supposed to be played I might have a hard time making it.

I'm hoping each round will take about an hour.
But I wont be enforcing a time limit.
Expecting people to play the next round as soon as both players are ready.
I would say sign up.
Please play round 1 from work.
And warn your round 2 opponent you might be a bit late.

Wait, 14.00 UK time, GMT +1?  Didn't realize the UK also used DST, so that's 6am on the west coast? ouch...  I'll really have to think about it.

I probably won't be able to play this one, but it's a great idea and I hope it happens more in the future. 2 month long tournaments, while fun, are ~60 days too long imo.

I took the liberty of cross-posting this on BGG (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/9056685#9056685). I'm a bit surprised it hasn't filled up more quickly, and I figure the more the merrier!

Are players allowed to play ahead of schedule?  Just send you the scores as they are done?

I guess this might become more of an issue when we get down to finals?

I think playing as soon as both players finish the last round is the best plan.
Having not done this before I am kind of guessing, but this should be the best way to finish all the matches in the shortest time.

Thanks for organizing, Rabid.  Should be fun!

So EST is GMT-5 and tournament is GMT+1.  I'm unsure exactly how DST falls in - does the tournament begin at 10am EST?

Thanks

The tournament starts at 13.00 UTC (or GMT).  That's 8.00 EST, or 9.00 EDT if you're currently on DST.

Got 20 signed up so far. :)
Plenty of room for more players though, if anyone else is interested.

I joined, trying to get friends to join too. But it is a bit early for us US folks.

Hey there, just a couple questions before the tournament tomorrow. How will we know the opponent we should play? Will the schedule be posted and updated on the challonge page? Should we all meet in Secret chamber? And where do you want us to report results?
Title: Re: 1 Day Cup 5th May
Post by: Rabid on May 04, 2012, 07:41:34 pm
There will be a bracket on Challonge telling you who to play.
(I will try to PM you on Challonge when your next round is ready.)
Yes all please meet in the Secret Chamber.
(if your Challonge user name doesn't match your Isotropic name please add the name to your status.
Please report results in the results thread.
It is double elimination, so you get to keep playing until you lose two rounds.

We have 24 players so far.
8 more players would be ideal if anyone else wants to join in.

I don't really get the clock adding up. I was pretty sure I was at GMT +1, but if the tournament starts when my clock is 15 I'm not so sure anymore...

You're GMT+2 Lekkit :)

http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

Edit: "London Time is the same as Greenwich Mean Time less than half of the year.  During Summer Time (Daylight Saving Time), London Time is GMT+1, also known as British Summer Time (BST)."

DST always messes my understanding of time zones up too.

Also, I kinda want to play in this, but I'm pretty sure I'll be drunk by the time it starts :) Possibly not the best idea.

Too bad this coincides with the release day of Avacyn Restored. Going to draft me some Miracles... :)

Why would any sane Dominion player choose a MTG tournament over a Dominion tournament? I mean, Avacyn Restored will still be out tomorrow but this tournament won't.

Post by: Fabian on May 05, 2012, 06:14:35 am
As a pretty hardcore Magic player of ~13 years, I have to side with MTG here I think ;) The release tournaments won't, in fact, be here tomorrow, after all!

Edit: Well I mean, I don't go to those tournaments anyway so I'd rather play the Dominion tournament, but imo it's a fair point :)

Yeah, I know. I'm a TCG player myself, but it's the release, not the sneak or something like that. A sneak I could probably side with, but according to WotC's website it's been out since yesterday, so to me this is no more than a simple draft. However my odds of winning will increase if Geronimoo is not in today. ;)

I have a quick rules question if you don't mind. You say that the semis are first to four wins and finals are first to five. So when do the semis occur in the losers' bracket? Is this just the game before the finals on both sides of the bracket?

Hmmm hadn't thought of that.
Yes I guess that makes sense.
The loser's bracket final is effectively the 2nd semi final.

Hey Rabid-

I'm looking around Challonge, but I don't see the actual bracket. The best I can seem to get to is the sign-up page:
http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/75mwqq857x

How do I find out who I'm playing in 14 minutes?

Ed

I have just randomised the pairing.
Bracket it up.

Any problems let me know in the next 10 minutes.
Please start round in 13 minutes.
Future rounds as soon as both players are ready.

Sweet. That actually makes my day a lot less hectic. :)

Good luck everyone! And may the player with the most shuffle luck not win unless he or she is the best player!
