Title: How do Ways work?
Post by: DooWopDJ on March 13, 2020, 09:08:07 pm
I could not figure out how the new Way cards work.  How do you get them? When are they used?

When you play any Action card, you can choose to get its normal effects, or you can choose to do the Way's effect instead. For example, if you played a Smithy and Way of the Ox was available, you could choose to play Smithy normally  and draw 3 cards, or you could choose Way of the Ox and get +2 Actions instead.

Also, Ways are not technically "cards".  They're similar to Landmarks from Empires in that they change something about the game, in this case, how Action cards work, namely, by changing them so that it's as if their normal text was replaced with "Choose one: [normal text] or [Way text]"  So, with Way of the Ox, for example, it's as if Smithy said "Choose one: +3 Cards or +2 Actions".  With Way of the Chameleon, it's as if Smithy said "Choose one: +3 Cards or +$3", with Way of the Turtle, it's as if it said "Choose one: +3 Cards or set this card aside and play it at the start of your next turn", etc.
