Title: amazing new strategy

5 Provinces and a Duchy in 14 turns, not bad eh?

In the future, you might want to post what the amazing new strategy is,, so we don't have to look at the log to figure it out. More people are likely to care if they have less work to do.
Not sure if you're being serious here, but looks more to me like 'luckiest draw ever'.

I'm with WW, the strategy here was basically Counting House + Big Money, which under normal circumstances I would be expect to be slightly more effective than pure money, and you got 5 provinces in 14 turns because of decent draws, and that your opponent was playing council room.

Damnit!  Sorry - 2 "usually garbage" cards - got them confused.  Damn you Mint / Mine or Fairgrounds / Farmland

Actually, from the sims, it seems to me that coppersmith+BM is not more effective than BM. Well, maybe 1% more effective on a 5/2 split, but actually a little worse otherwise.

You need THREE out of four of your hand to be copper, and the last card to not be a terminal, for Coppersmith to be worth more than a silver. I wouldn't buy it in BM games.

You are neglecting the non-negligible benefit of having trashed a copper.

You are thinking of Moneylender, and not Coppersmith.

WW's intuition is correct (barely)

I just modified WW's Ultimate BM bot - added a single copper smith, and it loses 46.6 - 45.2 - 8.2% on Ultimate Sim  My intuition was that the coppersmith would enable early gold buys slightly more often, which seems to be accurate, as money generated is higher early, but lower late.

It looked like it ended up buying provinces about 1/2 turn too late.  If I dropped the coin in deck condition to 17, it got slightly closer, but still lost.  If i dropped the coins required to 16, then it was buying provinces too early.

It looks like it does better early, but if you end up drawing the coppersmith with only 1 copper late in the game, it's is a killer.

Buying a copper on a 5/2 start was a disaster.

Double bonus for WW:

Code: [Select]
   <buy name="Coppersmith">
      <condition>
         <left type="countTurns"/>
         <operator type="smallerOrEqualThan" />
         <right type="constant" attribute="2.0"/>
      </condition>
      <condition>
         <left type="countAvailableMoney"/>
         <operator type="equalTo" />
         <right type="constant" attribute="5.0"/>
      </condition>
  </buy>

Adding this over silver (basically buying coppersmith if you have a 5/2 start), results in a 46.5 - 45.2 victory!

Not intuition. Somebody else did that study, and I remembered it.

:(

Yes, this was a joke. I thought that was obvious from the fact that I played a strategy that was worse than BM and ended up with 36 points in 14 turns.

That said, wouldn't an opponent's Council Room tend help Coppersmith more than Silver? Not much, obviously, but that might be enough to push it over the edge.

Does coppersmith benefit from council room? yes
Is council room a large enough benefit to justify coppersmith? no.

And don't worry, I had enough faith in you to know it was a joke  :P

Yeah, Coppersmith is obviously a mistake; I was playing against a real-life friend and felt like having a bit of fun, and after that Lighthouse opening I figured Coppersmith was the best of the $4s. I was just commenting on the Coppersmith vs. BM discussion above.

Valid. Coppersmith is rubbish.

Bureaucrat was the best of the $4s.
