ASS Altenburger has just revealed the new promo Schwerin Cathedral on their Facebook page (https://m.facebook.com/dominionwelt/photos/a.666789296673906/2437905609562257), as a hommage for the winning state of the German Dominion contest season 2018, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It's a cost $3 Duration card. It will be first available at the Internationale Spieletage 2019 in Essen.

Whoever guesses the effect before Essen wins a prize.
-
I did not possibly describe its effect as "whacky" or wacky, or in fact in any way whatsoever to the people writing that.
-
The Facebook-page does not mention any "whacky" effects. Where did the OP get that from?
(I'm German.)
-
At the start of each of your turns for the rest of the game: trash a card from your hand. (This stays in play.)
___
When you gain this, play it.

It used to! They fixed it after I complained to Jay and he complained to them.

I would guess something about trashing: We have Cathedral (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Cathedral), Temple (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Temple), Chapel (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Chapel), and Monastery (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Monastery) already...
Also, is this the first card with the name of an actual place? I know Sauna/Avanto was created for Finland, but it's not a single place.

Why?

Walled Village is called "Carcassonne" in the German edition, I gather.

Oh yeah, I forgot Carcassonne was a place; I just thought of it as the tile-placing game with meeples.
-

Not anymore. Because ASS Altenburger does not have the license for Carcassonne, it is called „Befestigtes Dorf“ (literally “fortified village”) now.

Also, when you trash this, play it.
Why?
So that you can't stop the trashing by trashing it from play, by using something like Bonfire.

You can't anyway.

Yeah, the "this stays in play" clause is separate from the "rest of the game" effect clause on Hireling and Champion. They stay in play for tracking reasons. And in Hireling's case, to prevent you from stacking the effect every shuffle.
Edit: which means technically you can Throne a Hireling and then free up the Throne Room by trashing Hireling with Bonfire. Now I really want to play a game with KC, Hireling, and Bonfire, just to see how many cards I start my turn with by the end of the game. It's so fun to just mess around with silly concepts like that. I hope the new promo is on the unusual side. Not that there's not already plenty of messing around material in Dominion.

You don't even need Bonfire. Just use Procession instead of Throne Room, and Lurker to get them back.

True. That would result in even more Hireling plays. Or you could include Procession and Lurker as well as KC and Bonfire, and then when you Process your Hirelings you can gain KCs so you can gain back the Hirelings with Lurker and KC them! Oh, and don't forget to include Outpost, because it'll hardly make a difference that you have two fewer cards in hand, and Mission because you're just gaining cards with Procession and Lurker. And who doesn't love triple-turns which would each individually would take forever?

Why would anyone name something ASS?
-
Why would anyone name something ASS?
Because it is german vocabulary for "Ace" and in case of ASS Altenburger an acronym reminiscensing former independent but over time merged companies in Altenburg and Stralsund producing playing cards.

Yes, there are a few combos like that. Crowning a Hireling and buying a Mandarin is another way of getting the same effect.

It will be first available at the Internationale Spieletage 2019 in Essen.
(Which is in October.)
-
Will it be released on BGG store at the same time?
-
Set aside a card from your hand (on this). At the start of your next turn, you may trash a card from your hand per coin the set aside card costs. Trash the set aside card.
Probably not a 3-cost by itself, as it's probably less powerful than Chapel, but I might as well make a guess. Maybe with some vanilla bonus added?
-

I have a feeling this card will have absolutely nothing to do with trashing.

That's strictly weaker than Amulet; so it's not that.

I can kind of see that as well. Maybe Schwerin Cathedral and Cathedral don't want to be that similar because they have such similar names. I'm still going to guess some trashing card, though.
-

It's not, because it's compulsory trashing at the start of your next turn. You might not want to trash anything.

Um, right, which is one reason that it is strictly weaker than Amulet....
-
Sorry; brainfart.
-
I think there's a good chance this doesn't have anything to do with trashing, but here's a trashing-based guess.
Set aside a card from your hand.
At the start of each of your turns, if this is in play, choose one: set aside a card from your hand (on this), or trash all set aside cards, +$1 per trashed card, and discard Schwerin Cathedral.
There's probably a better wording for this. This seems mega-busted so it's probably wrong.
-
My guess: At the start of your turn, you may trash a card from your hand. If you do not, trash this.
All the fun of Cathedral, plus added protection against Militias.
-
I have a new prediction: everyone trying to come up with a Cathedral variant is going to be wrong.
-

Probably. But that's the fun of it. You know you'll probably be wrong anyway, so you might as well make a guess. Besides, if you seat a monkey at a typewriter and give it infinite time, it will eventually produce Hamlet.

Actually, they've done studies, and it turns out that's not true; monkeys have a bias towards producing terminal draw, not discarding pseudo-villages.

Well played, but you have neglected one important fact: Hamlet is a Tragic Hero!

You may set aside a card from your hand.
At the start of your next turn, trash the set aside card. +1 per 1 it costs.

I'll take delayed Salvager for $200, Alex.

Probably too weak for (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/images/thumb/3/32/Coin3.png/16px-Coin3.png).

Definitely too weak for $200.

Google translated the German for "Duration card" as "Season ticket".
-
Prediction for card text:
While this is in play, at the start of your turn, set aside a card under it. When there are 3 or more cards set aside under it, trash them.

What's the on-play ability?

Yes, a Dauerkarte is also a season ticket for a soccer club, zoo or amusement park, but its is also literally a duration card.

Whoever guesses the effect before Essen wins a prize.
I'll take Princess!
