Title: Dominion expansion advice needed!
Post by: LittleFish on December 10, 2018, 07:53:48 pm
I have the Second edition of Dominion. I have Seaside, Cornucopia & Guilds, Dark Ages, Adventures, Empires, Nocturne and Renaissance. I aim to collect all of them. I definitely want Prosperity next and then either Alchemy, Hinterlands, or Intrigue. What are the benefits and downfalls of those expansions? I like the potion aspect of Alchemy, the multi type victory cards of Intrigue, and The chaining of hinterlands. The Treasures of prosperity made that one my first priority. Any suggested order to put them in?

I don't want to be rude but next-expansion questions is literally the most common question both here and on reddit. Is it not possible to check any of those threads before asking in new thread? We had one just the other day.

Anyhow, let's do this again: Intrigue is excellent, Hinterlands maybe a little bland and BM-ish for my taste but still good, Alchemy is interesting but many of the cards play poorly IRL and most people would advice you to wait with it until last wit that one.

Sorry, What threads are the best?

I added the more details because sometimes saying what I like with some may change what people say for what's good

You can edit the post or make a new post in the same thread.

In general, do Alchemy last.

Whether you want Hinterlands or Intrigue depends on what cards you like. Intrigue has multi-type cards and strongs attacks. Hinterlands has more reactions and 'when-you-gain' cards.

Alternative viewpoint: if you like full-random, don't do Alchemy last.  Potions are a worse investment the fewer cards in your kingdom they buy, so if you want to see kingdoms where Alchemy cards get played, get it while you've got a smaller pool of other cards to dilute them down.  The later you leave it, the less you'll enjoy Alchemy.

Nah, funny enough few of the potion cost cards combo together. Two potion cards is enough, more than that and they start to block each other..

Just try the full potion board and see how sad University becomes..

Yeah I feel like that advice about the number of potion cards in the Alchemy rulebook is one of the things that did the most harm to people's impression of Alchemy.
