I was introduced to Dominion this weekend and fell in love with it immediately. So far I have the base game - 2nd edition. I'm planning to buy Intrigue - 2nd edition soon. When I was calling my local board game store, they said the makers are planning on revamping all the versions and coming out with a second edition for all of them.
1.) Is this true? 2.) If so, should I hold off buying more until all the second editions are released? Or should I just buy the current versions as the wait time is still unknown?

It's true, but the new printings of the expansions other than Intrigue and Base Set aren't going to have any different cards, just slightly revised/clarified wordings and whatnot.
So other than Intrigue and the Base Set, it doesn't really matter.

1) Yes, but not to the extent of the first two sets. No new cards or removed cards, just bigger fonts and better wordings. There are only a couple functional changes that don't matter too much.
2) Up to you. So far only Hinterlands has been updated, though Prosperity is coming up next. And you can always get Empires, which as already up to code!

Hi there, welcome to the forums!
Your game distributor was right, all the expansions will be revamped. However, this will only occur when the expansion goes out of stock. Right now Hinterlands should be in stores as a 2nd edition soon, if not already. Prosperity will have an update version in stores next, but I don't know when.
Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to be safe. Dominion: Empires is already "updated", and you should grab a copy of that. Adventures, Guilds & Cornucopia, and Dark Ages are all more recent and probably won't be updated anytime soon, and since they are some of the best expansions, you should probably pick up a copy. Also, you can start playing dominion online (https://www.dominion.games/) which has all the updated cards.

Yeah, this. Pay a bit for a month online to see which cards from which sets you really like and then decide which expansions to get.

Also, there have been quite a few people in various places (Reddit & BGG in particular) saying that Seaside and Prosperity are going up in price, which is probably more an effect of the places that were selling it the cheapest running out of stock (and possibly some of the remaining retailers being the kind to capitalise on rarity by jacking up prices). So waiting a bit for the reprints of those will hopefully mean you're not paying $100 per expansion.

I do check the prices of dominion products a lot and I'd hold off on prosperity for now, it was over $160 at last check. Adventures was only $28 on amazon when I bought it last week.

This should be ending as we speak; new copies of Prosperity (with improved layout/wordings) went out to distributors on the 10th.

As for the order in which to by them, it doesn't really matter. It is really just a matter of taste. I would leave Adventures and Alchemy till you have at least a few others, because they are pretty complex. Apart from that, do whatever you want. I started with Hinterlands.

I will see how that goes with the new printer after my copies arrive.
