Title: experiment: "Discard a card you have in play."
Post by: LibraryAdventurer on October 08, 2016, 09:19:46 pm
How powerful would this card be?   (This is mainly a thought experiment.)

You may discard a card you have in play.

In theory, this would let you play a card as many times as Wild Things you play per turn.
How much difference would it make if the +1 card was after the discard?

I think this card would generally be weak, outside of certain combos and engines that consistently draw your deck.  Then, it's super powerful.  Have you considered the implications when combined with King's Court? :P

Moving the +1 card after the discard would make it a little better, but not that much.

It's a big deal with Durations, right?

1. Trash down to 3 Wild Things
2. Play Wild Things until everybody dies

Better:

1. Put +1$ token on Wild Thing
2. Trash down to 3 Wild Things
3. Get infinite money

After adding a "That is not a Wild Thing" clause:

1. Inherit Wild Thing.
2. Play Estates until everybody dies

Not saying there's no wording that avoids infinite turns, but that's something to look out for. Considering that you will usually have either no use for this or it will be absurdly good, i simply think it's not worth the issues it creates. Durations also jump to mind as something that's going to be awful to track (how often did I play this Hireling, again?), but in fact any card that gives +$ or +Action disappearing might be hard to remember.

Hm.

Wild Thing

+1 Action
+1 Buy

You may discard a non-Victory, non-Duration card from play.

How about these?
Quote
Wild Thing B
cost $4 - Action
+1 Card
+1 Action
Put cards on Wild Thing Mat into your hand.

When you discard this from play, you may put an Action card on your Wild Thing Mat.
Quote
Wild Thing C
cost $4 - Action
+1 Action
Replay another Action you have in play before this.
The concept is playing an Action you have in play. I think it is ok to let infinite combo, but 3-card combo is no good.

@mail-mi: You seem to have avoided the infinite play thing. Is there a reason you put +buy on it?

@majiponi: B has almost nothing to do with my card (looks like a combination of Scheme and Native village). C is a royal carriage that has to be used on the turn you play it. But those remind me of a similar card by Silverspawn:

Believer
Cost $2 - Action
When you buy this or play it, choose an Action card you have in play. If it is not a Believer, put it into your hand or on top of your deck, your choice.
I haven't played with it. I think if I wanted to do a card like this, I would want it to have +action.

To make it stronger.
