The German publisher announced a new Promo card for Spiel 2016 in Essen.

It is a split pile, Sauna and Avanto:
Sauna

While this is in play, when you play a Silver, you may trash a card from your hand.

Note that these are my translations of the German cards, not the official names or wordings.

I expect that there will be a split pile with a draw card the bottom since there hasn't been any yet. My idea would be a terminal draw card at the bottom with some cheap cantrip on top for $2-3, which you may play from your hand after the terminal draw card (basically giving you the +action back you needed to play the draw card).

Sauna's bottom is really interesting. Doesn't seem like a power trasher on its own but seems like it would be pretty cool with support. Is it attractive enough to entice players to reveal ice hole on its own? I'm not sure.

I don't think there's another word for 'ice hole' in English. The equivalent German word means the same, by the way (eis means ice, loch means hole - now that I think about it, I wonder if it's cognate with Scottish 'loch'?). Interestingly, in Dutch we do have a couple of words for a hole in the ice - 'wak' or 'bijt'. It's weird to find a lacuna in a different language than my own for once. Makes me wonder how they would translate this card into Dutch (if that ever happens at all), given the highly dubious and mediocre translations we have so far.

In Finland it's a thing to go into the sauna, then into the avanto, then back to the sauna, and so on.

It's probably the most interactive of all split piles, since the 2 splits matter so much for how the cards work.

I thought about that as soon as I heard the name Shuffle iT. I kept quiet hoping that nobody else would notice that, but unfortunately I've seen some "ShiT" flying around already. :/

Sweet another new promo card. Man, 2016 is shaping up to be quite the year for Dominion.
As for the the power level, I think this pile seems kind of weak, but seeing how they work off each other it's possible they're decent.

Oh wait, these can chain, can't they? If I play Sauna then Avanto, I can play another Sauna again and so forth, right? If so, that makes it better than I initially thought, though, it still requires commitment similar to Herald.

Is it just me, or does Sauna/Avanto seem really strong?
Suppose that you're the only one picking up Saunas. You can take Saunas on $4, silvers on $3, and by the time the Avantos show up, you can easily afford them, and they function as double-labs that only you have access to. This is such a good position for you, that your opponent ought to stop you by competing for Saunas early on. So the Saunas will go fairly quickly.

It's cute that the finnish publisher got such a fitting card. It's thematic in a witty way, and the art is also rather pretty.

Cool to see the first impressions ranging from not very good to super strong :)
In my opinion, this is the best split pile so far. The self-synergy between Sauna and Avanto is the greatest among the split piles which I think is the most important aspect of them.
I also really like the design choice that Sauna costs (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/images/thumb/2/2a/Coin4.png/16px-Coin4.png) so it isn't that easy to just get a lot of them before your opponent gets any.
Also, imagine I make a sarcastic and slightly salty remark about how it totally makes sense to rank the two cards seperately in Qvists rankings here because I'm too lazy to think of one right now.

Probably pretty important, but not as important as Urchin/Urchin.
I kind of don't like this one because you get strong draw and trashing together, which makes for a fairly unskippable pile. It doesn't make a deck on its own though, so it's not that different from other strong piles.

I would open silver/silver get a 5er and a suana next and then have a good deck.

I almost wonder if split piles like this would be cooler with 12 cards instead of 10. Someone having 3 and another having 2 doesn't seem all that useful. It's like the Fool's Gold effect: if everyone goes for it, it sucks. But if no one goes for it, it could be a really nice form of draw.

Remembering the order of which card to play based on instruction is going to be interesting. I think the tree-branch play area is going to be more important than ever, even more than Herald. (and Vassal?)

Totally agree. There are good arguments to make that you should set up some split piles like Victory card piles, i.e. 8 in a 2P game and 12 otherwise. For example 2P Catapult games will rarely reach Rocks or only reach them if it doesn't matter much anymore. This is why I don't use a dogmatically fixed number of 10 (or an even split) for my own split pile fan cards.
About this card, it is probably so good in many Kingdoms that it would be best with the 8/12 treatment.

Well, while thatīs true for most cards, there are quite a few cards in dominion that have lead to some rather complicated/unintuitive rulings (like band of misfits, trader, scheme, etc), thereīs the band of misfits/conspirator interaction thatīs specifically on my mind right now...

My friend is headed to Essen tomorrow. Is there an English version of this card available there somewhere? He said he would pick one up for me, but from what I understand there will only be German and Finnish versions of the card there. When/where will the English version be available?

I played my first game with Sauna/Avanto this weekend. Turns out a couple of Saunas and a couple of Silvers lets you thin your deck pretty fast, and the thinner it gets, the more reliable it becomes (also, pairing Saunas with Avantos becomes more reliable too).
It takes time to build it into a reliable double-Province engine, though, so the player decided to go single-Province, and in the end, my Wharf-Coin of the Realm draw engine eeked out an extra Duchy off the Wharf +1 Buy for a narrow win. Although I must admit my engine was probably worse and I was just lucky it never whiffed.

I don't know, but I believe BGG has some system whereby they will email you when a thing you want comes in. You would have to do your own research there, or recruit someone else to do it, but I am pretty sure they have such a thing. Which means of course that when it does show up, a bunch of other people will be instantly alerted.

I can get one on ebay for $27, with tons available.... jerks. I know BGG says "1 per person" but I don't think they're able to enforce it. Either that or somebody robbed RGG at a convention or such.

Maybe the English edition of a recent spielbox contains it? The German edition contained Sauna/Avanto in German...
