Title: McGarnacle's Dominion Musings
Post by: McGarnacle on August 04, 2016, 11:16:39 am
I'm creating this thread so we (but mostly I  :) ) can talk about random theoretical Dominion ideas and observations. So gather around children, and hearken to my words of wisdom:

Band of Misfits is like Young Witch because its effectiveness is based heavily on the other cards in the kingdom. Band of Misfits is also like Count because they are both from Dark Ages, and both are versatile. Thematically, if the Young Witch and the Count had kids, they would be a Band of Misfits, because the Count would most likely disown them, instead of recognizing them as heirs.

Profound, right?

I wouldn't ever Count on the Young, Which often Band into Misfits.

This is exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see in this thread!

I always say horseradish instead of Horse Traders.
I often wonder why some cards have plural names (Horse Traders, Goons, Rats, etc.) while most do not.
I buy Bishop way more often than I should.
Sometimes my cats jump on my keyboard whilst I'm mid-turn and it causes me to lose my train of thought. But I still love them.
There are 2 IRL pictures of me on f.ds
I go into games/books stores just to see what Dominion expansions they have. I never ever buy anything, except once I bought Dark Ages.

I could go on for days.  Is this what you were looking for?

So gather around children

Why should we gather around children? Wouldn't that bother them?

Nice try, but I refuse to believe that you would ever actually take childrens' feelings into account.

I generally feel lots of empathy towards other people, and while I understand that it's not a very popular opinion, I actually think of children as people.

I get how Remodeling a Counting House into a King's Court works, but how about Remodeling a Followers into a Necropolis? Or a Duchess into a Cutpurse? Dominion is actually really dark when you think of it like that. That should be a new thing with the mafia: "Hey, did you take care of Luciano? Yeah, we remodeled him real good."

What does the trash in Dominion really represent? Apparently a place were Upgraded Witches and Forged Villages hang out.

How'd you manage to remodel a Followers into a Necropolis?

On a related note, how in the heck do Graverobbers work in the Dominion world? Either, despite their name, they actually just go down to the pub to tell the recently-fired Bureaucrats that they're employed again, or they possess Necromantic powers beyond that of anyone except the local Rogues.

I consistently call Nobles "nobbles".

Most guilty thematic moment: trashing Survivors with Rats. Man, they're having a bad day.

I'm a fan of Necrobles when it is played for +2 Actions.
or Necropolitive Village if you pick up 0 cards from your Native Village mat

Seems to me like if you left a Feast on the Native Village mat for too long, when you came back, all the villagers would be fatter and your feast would be gone.

If an Estate gives me one VP in a Curse makes me loose on VP, how would that work in real life? You would be touring your lands, and you think about stopping at your cozy estate next to the Farming Village with that pretty Caravan Guard, and when you get there, the estate has just plain disappeared. Plus the Caravan Guard ran off with that dashing Count.

I'm not exactly sure what the topic of this thread is, but mispronounciations came up, so here's one.

One of my first games of Dominion, someone was VERY adamant about pronouncing Duchy as "dookie". Like, no matter what we said or how much we giggled, it was always dookie. So now when we're behind we always talk about whether or not we'll "take the dookie" to try and have a chance of winning.

But the morale of your villagers would be up, and maybe they would've built something for you (like a wharf, a library, or a forum) or held a festival in your honor, or got their witch to curse your enemies.

fan feast errata:
Quote
If this is still on your native village mat 5 turns after putting it there, play this.

How to Annoy Your Friends in IRL Dominion

Sat through a million Cultist slogs? Heard one too many Scout jokes on f.ds? Can't stand McGarnacle's Dominion Musings? Well then this handy series of ideas on how to annoy your friends in IRL Dominion is for you!

1. Intentionally mispronounce certain card names repeatedly: I always say "Tactican" instead of "Tactician". Also, when I play Menageries, instead of saying "I play a Menagerie; no duplicates" I say "Menagerie, no duplicatos" because I think it sounds cool

2. Every time your opponent is frustrated they can't buy what they want, say things like "Man, wouldn't it be great if that Copper you just played was a Gold? Then you could have bought that Province."

3. Every time you play a deck-inspection attack, like Oracle or Spy, ask to see the top card of their deck, even if it is the same one you just revealed last time you played the attack.

4. Slowly play your treasures when you are going to buy something good, play all your action cards even when you can already buy what you want.

Stay tuned for more advice along the same line!

Counting House is like a going into a pawn shop and seeing a really neat lampshade. You think to yourself "I really need to buy that lampshade, its so cool". But when you get home, you realize you need a lamp to go with that lampshade, plus your carpet and end table don't really match, either. And by the time you've bought all those things, you realize you don't really like that lampshade anyway.
