Rules:

- Pretty much just the basic stuff (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9211.0)
- The game will end once the Town (You win when all Mafia-aligned players have been eliminated) or Mafia (You win when the majority of players alive are Mafia-aligned or nothing can prevent that from occurring) win condition has been met. When any other win condition is met, the winner(s) will leave the game.
- Day Deadlines will be 1 week long
- Night Deadlines will be 48 hours long
- All players will have some sort of power. Some, if they are a part of a secret society, will have additional powers.
- No mod lying, just some crazy roles.

Title: Re: BM24: Secret Societies (7/12)
Post by: LaLight on August 25, 2016, 01:20:22 am
I've read the defininition and i LIKED it:

Bastard Mod, usually shortened to Bastard, can ambiguously refer to a type of role, a type of game, or a mod who runs bastard games and/or uses bastard roles.
The exact definition of "bastard" varies from person to person according to their likes and dislikes; however, the following traits are usually common.
The moderator lies to players, either in their Role PMs (as in False roles) or in their revealed information (as in Death Miller).
The game incorporates significant game-changing mechanics (Cult being a notorious example) that affects players who may not know about them.
The game incorporates roles that are inconvenient to play with, such as Voteless or Suicidal.
A common shorthand definition of a bastard mod game is that it is designed mostly for the moderator's amusement more than that of the players.
Bastard games are notoriously difficult to do well. Most moderators' bastard setups will be imbalanced or not fun for some other reason. This doesn't stop them many moderators from trying to run them, though.
Bastard Mod games should not be confused with bad games, which are self-explanatory. However, the line between the two tends to be dangerously thin. If players called your game "bastard" when you were not actively trying to make it one, you should consider getting your next setup looked over by better reviewers.

besides crazy it'll also not to be taken seriously. That's no reason not to sign up per se but know what you're singing up for. the "BM" prefix before a game indicates that it's just for fun.

*sigh* I debated whether I should make a remark preventing that response but decided it wouldn't be necesesary.

every game is played for fun. for some games we decide that we want to compete to have fun, in others we decide that we don't, this is one of the latter ones.
Title: Re: BM24: Secret Societies (1 spot left! What's the passcode?)
Post by: LaLight on September 19, 2016, 03:08:58 am
There is "fun" in general and yes, all games are played for fun. But also there is contextual "fun" regarding to games itself. E.g. Jester is fun, rebuild is no fun, though generally speaking we play Dominion for fun.

BMs are played for fun on Mafia scale of the "fun" word. It is crazy, unpredictable and strange and mad things are going on

Cool, as long as you know the general mechanics you're good. Just be warned that this game will probably be a bit different from any of those.

Also, make sure to read the civility pledge here (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=7695.0) and post /pledge afterwards. If you have any questions about the game or Mafia in general, feel free to PM me or just post them here - people are generally pretty helpful. :)

May 1st, ****

The day has arrived. I have gained the brotherhood's trust and have undergone initiation into the society. There were only a handful of people there, but I expect hundreds more around the globe. This group's influence is likely even more extensive than we ever anticipated. I cannot say much more as my activity is being monitored. I must be cautious and watch my back at all times.

I do not believe they know my true intentions, but fear my life would be in mortal danger if they ever did.

Though the usefullness is questionable and depends on the results. So if you see any harm at all that can be done by it, we shouldn't do it.

What do you think about sound? Intuitively I would assign inactivity rather to newbie!town than newbie!scum but I might be wrong on that.

No, but that sounds like code for some sorta scum thing I'm not supposed to know about.

This game is weird. Not sure how to read anyone since no one is taking it seriously.

Calamitas is probably town, so I guess scum on the people who keep voting him for nothing?

And yeah my vote is already on Mail-mi so there you go.

Mostly frustrated that everyone is just throwing around naked votes without any reason. If we keep this up, the entire game is going to go this way and we might as well just lynch a random person every day.

I've held back on taking this game seriously because of the bastard but it is very much not in my nature to do so unless I'm busy.

And I've got the weekend off, so..........

What the hell was up with silverspawn's weird claims? Why is PPS all like "I know everything and I'm god" but no one cares?

Okay, I'm going to do my best to assess the gamestate.

Haddock was the serial killer or something. That seems almost completely irrelevant, actually.

J Reggie has, like, 4 posts. First, he votes silverspawn, calling silver his scumbuddy. Then he votes Mail-mi. Then he votes silverspawn. Then he fake-votes for Roadrunner, which turns out to be good enough for Archetype to count as a real vote. Roadrunner does not die. Then, J Reggie dies and flips scum.

EoD a lot of people are still on basically RVS votes because D1 was so short, but the Roadrunner wagon reads:

RoadRunner7671(7):silverspawn, mail-mi, pingpongsam, gkreig13, chairs, iguana iguana, J Reggie

The L-1 from me is a little embarrassing, since I got on mostly due to a joke with Chairs. J Reggie's hammer makes Roadrunner more likely town though and if that is true, it implies at least one other scum is probably on the wagon too.

The next day, silverspawn and a few others open by voting for silverspawn, then silver takes credit for Roadrunner's being alive, and says Roadrunner's survival makes Roadrunner town. silver also claims that he was scum yesterday, but he isn't anymore. Recently, though, silver says that silver is not town. silver keeps voting for himself, which Mail-mi says probably means that it's a bad idea to vote for silver. Pronouns.

Calamitas keeps softing a PR, suggesting that if we give him our flavor names he'll be able to find scum with them more easily. In response to Calamitas' attempts to get our flavornames, several people vote for him, calling it scummy. Calamitas tries to do a little more game solving after that, which earns him more votes from basically the same people again.

No one tells Calamitas any flavor names except Roadrunner, who claims NSA. LaLight says that Roadrunner is lying if he is the NSA unless there are two, saying he knows that someone else is the NSA. Roadrunner just responds "Ba dum tss" and "Dope, man." LaLight does not vote for Roadrunner for this apparent falsehood.

Meanwhile, PPS uses a "Daylight" command, and soon afterward claims that he has day-copped Mail-mi and that we should not vote for him. PPS tunnels Calamitas quite a bit.

Very little content from Gkrieg, chairs. No content at all from Thesoundandthefury. Kinda pointless to lynch him, he'll be modkilled sooner or later.

Conclusions:

Mail-mi and PPS are tied together. Let's not lynch them today.

By a similar but weirder logic, so are Roadrunner and silverspawn.

That leaves Gkrieg, Chairs, Sound, Calamitas, Lalight.

I like a Gkrieg or Chairs lynch.

I'm already voting Chairs.

The end.

Okay, here's the deal. It includes cash and prizes so I don't see it being bad one but it's the best deal I got.

I am The President, the leader of the free world. While I am town and you should feel bad for lynching town, lynching me does come with some benefits that would otherwise be null and void if we first lynched the wrong person.

You see, I am otherwise unkillable at night so i wasn't a bad win condition to start with. But let's make this more fun, anyway.

When I die we are going to skip tomorrow's day. Yep, that's right, Day 3 gets burned and scum get 2 nights to kill you MF'ers.

Here's the sweet part, though. All you townsfolk get a night of your choosing to be unkillable yourself. Oh, yeah, my people, how you like that?! Oh, you scumbags, how you like them apples? Hope you pick the right targets suckaz.

One last thing. I totally lied about the mail-mi thing, made that shit up like nobody's business. It's cool though, it's what politicians do. All the other stuff, that's totally real.

One last thing. If you want to keep your wonderful leader because he's unkillable at night and basically insures victory that way, well, let's make sure hang onto whoever is flavor named "Skull and Bones" too because if he goes first then cash and prizes gets revoked.

Besides, considering the naming scheme of town/scum, would you consider "The United Nations, the cropping Governor" a town or a scum name? Don't let yourself get influenced by sound having that name as town, it means literally nothing.

Just realized we must lynch silver if he is either jester or scum now. If he is jester, we have a scum&jester-left scenario. In that case we must lynch either scum or jester, no matter which one, to not lose immediately. If we lynch someone else, jester votes for himself and the last scum hammers. If he is scum, we either win directly or face another LyLo. So yeah, let's lynch silver. His actions just don't make sense from a town perspective.

If Calamitas is third party, I guess we'll need to just wait for Calamitas to come back and play kingmaker. Since I am town and you are the last scum, having taken Mail-mi's powers when you transferred the lynch onto him!

Yeah. You should be a potato.  Check your PMs.

If you're actually town, then it's much easier than I thought – we just win. Although I don't know how that has happened.

I have been the identity thief the night before and targeted iguana.

I guess I can aswell claim.

I started out as mafia. Mafia doesn't know who their partners are in this game. I had  a power where I could name players and if they'd be lynched they wouldn't die and I'd learn their alignment.

I chose RR. He was town.

Night 1 became the potato. The potato is a third party role that loses the game if it dies or is still alive at the end of the game, and at night, it can target a player to switch roles with them. Also they can't be lynched; the player with the second most votes gets lynched instead.

Night 2 I targeted mail-mi. He was scum! So Day 3 I was scum again.

Night 3 I became the potato again. That's how, yesterday, I knew mail-mi was scum. He had thrown it back at me! Nasty guy. Apparently he didn't read the role carefully, though, because he should've known that he'd die if I get lynched with my vote on him.

Night 4 I targeted you. Finally I became town. Therefore I assumed igu was scum and I was now the last town alive.

If you aren't the potato, then I must have been redirected to someone else.

I can tell you what happens. I have already talked it through with Archetype.

If we lynch me or no-one, iguana wins.
If we lynch iguana, I win.

You can't win. Sorry.

Think of utilitarian principles! There are more town players than scum players!

I absolutely thought it through that way. The question is whether more people winning while I'm losing has a higher value in my mafia-utility function ;) (which vastly differs from my RL utility function :P)
No-lynch might result in iguana shooting himself with some weird modifier or something like that, so there is a chance of me winning there :P
Admittedly, that chance is tiny :D

Also think of it from a distant perspective. it is much more interesting if the player who switched alignments 4 times, got lynched without dying and got RR lynched without dying gets MVP than if he dies at LyLo  ;D

Welcome, silverspawn, to BM24: Secret Societies. You are the United Nations, the Traitorous Copping Governor.

Win Condition:
You win when the majority of players alive are Mafia-aligned or nothing can prevent that from occurring.

Secret Society Power:
N/A

Role Power:
WORLD POLICE - Each night (including N0), you may target one player. That player’s role will be kept on a protected list. Any time a protected role is lynched, and this power hasn't been used to save it before, the lynch on the role owner will fail. All roles will then be removed from your “protected list” and you will be told the would-be-lynched player’s alignment in the form of Town/Not Town.

silverspawn, you are the Traitorous Master Mason, a Macho Doctor

Win Condition:
You win when the majority of players alive are Mafia-aligned or nothing can prevent that from occurring.

Secret Society Power:
MASONRY - Once during the game at night, you may target one player. If that player also has the MASONRY power, a QT will be opened for you to talk in. If not, they will be notified that you showed them handsigns.

Role Power:
OATH - Each night, you may target one player. They will be protected from one Killing action until the following night.

PLACEBO - Any Protective actions used on you will fail.

silverspawn, you are now Anonymous, the Compulsive Weak Lynchproof Hot Potato Nexus.

Win Condition:
If the game ends while you possess this role or you die while having this role, you do not win.

Secret Society Power:
N/A

Role Power:

HACK - Each night, you MUST target one player. If they have the MAFIA Secret Society Power, you will die. If they don’t, the two of you will switch roles. They’ll assume the Flavor Name, Role Power, Secret Society Power, and Win Condition of this role and vice versa.

GUY FAWKES MASK - Any actions that target you will be redirected to a random player instead.

REMEMBER REMEMBER - Any attempts to lynch you will lynch the player with the next highest votes instead.

silverspawn, you are now Anonymous, the Compulsive Weak Lynchproof Hot Potato Nexus.

Role Power:
IMPERSONATE - Each night, you may target one player. If they are Town or Mafia-aligned, you will switch each other's Role Powers and Flavor Names. You will each maintain your Win Condition and any Secret Society Powers.
