Title: Split pile variant
Post by: Ankenaut on May 10, 2016, 03:31:03 pm
I want to play with some Empires-style split piles made from existing cards, like, I don't know, Pearl Diver (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Pearl_Diver) and Mystic (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Mystic). I think it works best if you didn't want too many of that top card except it helps you get to the bottom-half, and the synergy is good enough that it pays off. So, what are the best split piles you can think of?

I really like Pearl Diver/Mystic. I'd have to give some more thought to other good pairings.

Herbalist/Counterfeit? (And other strong $5 treasures  like Relic and Treasure  Trove)

Good idea. Herbalist/Hero might be good too.

You could use it to nerf power cards like Rebuild, by putting 5 Rebuilds under something else.

Scout is the one that springs to mind to nerf the OP cards.

I said nerf, not make completely worthless....

Especially since Scout specifically anti-combos with Rebuild!

Chancellor/Counting House

Chancellor helps get those coppers into your discard pile, and then Counting House comes in and picks them up for you.

Nerfing Rebuild with this sounds like fun. I'd maybe put Silk Road on top of it.

Maybe you could do something like Duchess/Cultist to nerf Cultist?

Also, Crossroads/Wharf (which is already a decent combo on its own) sounds promising.

Chancellor/Stash seems like it could work well.  Messenger/Scavenger could work too, but I think the weaker Chancellor is better for the split pile.

I'd really like to try Duchess/Rebuild. It might not be enough of a nerf, but it would be fun to find out.

Many of these would totally kill the bottom card I think. Like it'd almost never matter. Not that that's a bad thing with Rebuild, but I think there are better ways to nerf it if we just want to exclude it.

Treasure Map/Ghost Ship

Having found zippity squat while living, your crew are damned to sail the seven seas in the hereafter.

Five Treasure Maps creates a bit of competition, and the Ghost Ships produce draw to find them.

Yes, I realise it's quite slow and silly, but that's Treasure Map for you.

Fishing village / Library

Remake / Mountebank

Rats / Forge  (10 Rats + 5 Forges)

Rats/Forge sounds really interesting.  You have enough starting junk in your deck to gain all the Rats now, but then drawing the Forge becomes hard because you can't play the Rats.

Province/Colony

4 each, Province on top.
