Title: Let's Discuss Adventures Events: Bonfire

WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE
IT WAS ALWAYS

Anyway, Bonfire trashes things you've played already.  So you can trash Coppers you've played... in order to pay for it anyway, which doesn't make it all that much different from normal trashers.  However, it can trash Ruins after playing them, which is neat.

-Is it ever good to open Bonfire?
-Is it ever worth Bonfiring when there are Kingdom trashers?
-You can Bonfire Fortress, then Save it.  That isn't a question, I just wanted to put that out there.

-Is it ever good to open Bonfire?
YES. Yes yes yes. The strength of any trasher depends a lot on the speed you can build up after the trashing. But openings like Ironworks/Bonfire or even just Baron/Bonfire can be very strong.

-Is it ever worth Bonfiring when there are Kingdom trashers?
again, yes. Like all events, Bonfire is very fast. Pay now, profit now.
Also some other trashers might not like trashing coppers at all (Apprentice, Hermit, Salvager, ...)

-You can Bonfire Fortress, then Save it.  That isn't a question, I just wanted to put that out there.
Hummm yeah. But trashing Squires or Hunting Grounds just might be actually good.

You can also buy this more than once. If you hit $6 early with two buys, trashing 4 coppers seems quite good.

It's like Mint, without having to gain a Mint!

I guess you don't want to open Bonfire if hitting 5 is very important. I can think of cases where I'd rather want Bonfire/Steward over 2x Steward, though.

Another nice trick with Bonfire is getting rid of your other trasher with it. Or another early game card you don't want anymore, e.g. Potion.

I was going to mention this, especially with Chapel and Doctor.

If only there was a Potion and a trasher that could get rid of themselves!

I thought you never looked at fan cards??

(I first thought of Raze)

This is a really good trasher. Being able to trash two coppers before the first reshuffle is very strong. I think opening Bonfire plus another trasher is a good opening. Also, compare this to Forager. Both cost three, but Forager first adds a card to your deck, and only gets rid of one card AFTER the first reshuffle. However, since you added a card to your deck, you essentially trashed zero cards. It takes 3 reshuffles for one Forager to have the same effect as one Bonfire buy. Of course, Forager trashes estates, but still when compared to a card like that or even Junk Dealer, I think it should be obvious how strong Bonfire is.  Oh and again, this trashes BEFORE the first reshuffle. That's really, really, really good.

Adventures has some good trashing in it.

That fire is huge. Man, maybe it has something to do with the power of this card?

Well I haven't seen Bomb, but I know from previous times people have joked about it that it's related to Raze.

I don't normally look at fan cards, but I've looked at LF's. And I looked at You Make the Card; you can see some of my versions of the top in the Outtakes article. They did not survive because they were crazy. "Exactly" can't be enough of a nerf. Transmogrify was.

Also junkers that aren't useful once junk is gone, like Sea Hag.

Oh, one thing is looking, but did you vote? 'Cause I'd love to see a fan expansion from you.

I haven't voted on anything, and I'm not looking to put together an expansion of fan cards, published or otherwise.

It was a lame joke, please let me now explain it. Suggesting you make your own fan expansion is laughable because you design Dominiion. That's it. Ahah. Ah.

Meta: as long as Donald likes Dominion: all expansions are fan-expansions!

I considered that possibility and then decided that that probably wasn't what you meant, because of the word "fan." My cards are all homemade Dominion cards. They aren't fan cards though. In my conception of what that means (that's a magic phrase; try it on genies).

It used to be that someone would see me playing at a game store and would say, "oh are these your homemade Dominion cards?" And I would say yes and we would all chuckle and they would wonder what was funny. Now, okay I still say yes, but then I come right out with, I'm the guy, I made the game, once there were just my homemade cards. This is because, once this couple I hadn't played with was leaving the store and they were all, oh you made your own copy of Kingdom Builder, huh, and left looking disgusted.

Not sure what you mean, but a Transmute cannot get rid of itself.

It can if you have fast hands and your opponents are distracted.

This isn't Munchkin.  Cheating is not allowed.

IIRC, both Ratcatcher and Transmute can just sit on your Tavern until the end of the game, which is just as good.

EDIT: obviously meant Transmogrify. Don't mind me.

Remember when not everyone realized Bonfire was a top tier trasher and that strategies like Jack / Bonfire are totally ridiculous? Man.

But seriously, Stef's post was the first time I was like "oh, maybe Bonfire is actually pretty good", and then I slowly started buying it more and more.
