Title: You make the card: An F.DS community-created fan card! (Part 19)
Post by: GendoIkari on January 27, 2016, 01:08:25 pm
Ok, so all parts of the card mechanics are set:

India-Panther: Action-Reaction, (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/images/thumb/7/7d/Coin5.png/16px-Coin5.png) (or more)
Trash a card from your hand. Gain a card costing up to (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/images/thumb/3/3d/Coin2.png/16px-Coin2.png) more than it.
If the trashed card is an action, +1 action. If the gained card is an action, play it.
_______________________________________________________________________
When any player gains a Victory card, you may reveal this from your hand.
If you do, the player gaining the card puts it on top of his deck.

Now we just need to decide on various specifics to alter. Things for consideration:

Bonus for trashing an action?
Gain up to, or exactly?
Upgrade by (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/images/thumb/3/3d/Coin2.png/16px-Coin2.png) or by (http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/images/thumb/f/f7/Coin1.png/16px-Coin1.png)?
Reaction on buy, or on gain?

Let's decide on the bonus for trashing an action first; as that's the biggest change.

No bonus.  It really needs to be streamlined.

Reaction should be on gain.  On buy is only used when on gain would be broken.

What happens when you use India to gain an action-victory, and the gain is reacted to by another copy of IndiaPanther? I believe that the card will go on top of your deck, and then you will still play it, because playing a card is not one of the things that lose-track prevents from happening. So you'll play a card, which will still be sitting on top of your deck. Not broken, but definitely a tracking annoyance. Maybe no worse than Procession though.

Though reacting to on-buy wouldn't fix it anyway, we have Watchtower (and Royal Seal or Storyteller with Black Market).

Also note that if we change it to on-buy, we neuter the original idea of this being a gainer that has a reaction to gaining.  We would be eliminating the self-synergy that we went to such lengths to include.

Reaction to gaining, allowing you to play the card if it's an Action, satisfies the sometimes terminal decision.

I voted to keep it how it is. We agreed on that card, and by golly we don't need to change it now!

This isn't true. We voted on card mechanics and concepts; not specific ways to implement those concepts. This was made clear in all previous votes.

I didn't vote for this card. So I want to change it. :)

That's correct. But I still like how I voted.

I don't understand what the Poll is asking me.

However, this is what I would like to see on the card:

India-Panther: Action-Reaction, $5
Trash a card from your hand. Gain a card costing up to $2 more than it.
If the gained card is an action, play it.

When any player gains a Victory card, you may reveal this from your hand.
If you do, the player gaining the card puts it on top of his deck.

Then vote for 'no bonus.'

Sorry if it wasn't clearer. The poll is asking specifically about the sentence in the card "If the trashed card is an action, +1 action." It's asking about removing that sentence or replacing the "+1 action" part of it with something else.

We also need to fix the fortress interaction. One suggestion was to change 'If the gained card is an action' to 'If the gained card is an action other than India-Panther'.

Changing the upgrade amount or using "exactly" can also fix it; depending on what's chosen. Also depending on what this ends up costing.

I don't believe interactions with fortress need to be fixed. I mean doesn't fortress exist to break the game?

Well a move that allows you to pile out india-panther just from drawing india panther and fortress together is probably two strong. Plus it gives you all the india-panthers, which would ruin the game, especially given that fortress remains for continued upgrading, even into duchies.

So the "if the trashed card is an action, +1 action" will be removed. Next we'll tweek the upgrade amount. But later, because I'm at a board game convention.

This directly violates the result of part 5: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=14327.0

The result was: Special (Sometimes terminal, sometimes not. Crossroads, Throne Room, etc)
This is always terminal and pretty boring, I feel cheated.

But you get to play the gained card if it is an action, so it is still sometimes non-terminal.

As Mr. Anderson said, this is not always terminal. Play India. Trash Estate. Gain Village. Play Village. You now have 2 actions remaining. If you didn't call this sometimes nonterminal, then neither would be Throne Room or Golem; which were specifically called out as examples of sometimes nonterminal.

Agreed, though if that's the only reason for changing the upgrade amount then I think we'd be better off finding another way.

May I make a request?  When we do look at upgrade amount, I assume we'd look have options for up to $1 more, up to $2 more, exactly $1 more and exactly $2 more.  Could we add in "either $1 or $2 more" as another option?  It's just that I don't think we've seen a printed card with that.

Oh I thought that part was removed as well.
