Hello, I'm Julian and I live in Michigan. Some of my non-dominion hobbies are juggling and playing chess. Last summer I went to an extremely rigorous and intense 6-week summer camp which motivated me to think deeply about simple things (http://u.osu.edu/rossmath/), and now my classes in school just don't scratch my itch to do proof-based math. As a result I'm also involved in various math activities outside of school which eat up as much time as I want to spend not doing humanities homework.
I'm in 11th grade. Some of you knew how young I was, but I don't think I ever fully admitted it. I think I was around 8th grade when I joined the forum. Since then, I've spent 144 days and 23 hours on this forum. It's been a lot of fun, and I don't regret spending all that time, but I have a lot of other commitments now and I can't afford to spend that sort of time here. 11th grade for me comes with a bunch of classes where I actually have to put in the time to keep up, and I need to make sure I can get things done while still sleeping enough to stay alive. Anyway, being around you all has really been a great experience for me and I've learned many life lessons through Dominion, Forum Games, edgecases and rule technicalities, puzzles, and generally reading and participating in discussions about anything from RSP to how IsoWasBetter with such knowledgeable people. It's pretty special that I sometimes wish my classmates were as mature and civil as some random online community.
I will come back briefly every few months, but I doubt I'll ever be nearly as active as I used to be. For now I'm going to delete my forum bookmark and actually log out for once. You could say I'm revealing Watchtower and trashing a Gold.

non-dominion hobbies
?
"hobby" is a word that describes the time you spend talking about or playing Dominion. "pops spent some time on his hobby today after work" - that means I either played Dominion, watched someone stream Dominion, or maybe talked about Dominion; it could be any of those things but they are all part of the hobby.
Some people feel like 2p and 3+ player Dominion are so different they are each a "hobby" and so the plural form, "hobbies" comes up.
However, the phrase "non-dominion hobbies", is illogical. We are forced to conclude that liopoil is losing his mind.

Thank you for explaining. This must be why liopoil is leaving the forums.

Congrats on youngest burnout record.

Fare well!

I'll fondly remember the times you caught me out as mafia (Dynasty Warriors II and Deep Space Nine) and the one time I caught you out and finally got my revenge in Back to Basics.
Hope too see you back soon, maybe once you hit college! (Those classes are going to be easier, right?)
-
I had no idea you were that young, Lio!
But anyway, some comment you made helped me decide to go sign up for more mafia games when I came back. You're a good guy. And after a few years away, maybe you can become a slacker college student and come back to us.
But having a productive life is good too I suppose.

We'll miss you sudgy!

I thought it was me and mail-mi you always mixed up...

All three of you joined the f.ds.fg community at the same time, and you are all three young, so I've mixed you all up at some point.

sudgy is young too? Who's not young? Am I old?

You are old. So am I. Yuma, too.
-
I'm old. Also, I have a budding toddler and a newborn on the way and I have hobbies and a demanding job and lots of stuff. None of it is an excuse to bow out of f.ds.

I'm older than two liopoils. I was teaching students older than lio when he was still in diapers. I assume the same applies to mail-mi and sudgy...

None of it is an excuse to bow out of f.ds.
Um... dude. f.ds is a hobby. People give up hobbies all the time.

It's a commitment. You have an obligation here to post funny memes and make clever references, and every once and a while bestow upon us some chemistry knowledge.
You mustn't let us down.
I see this as Lio going on a pilgrimage, like when Luke went to find Yoda. He will come back to us with greater knowledge, skill, and maturity. Dressed in black, too.

Perhaps he will return to the forum with a wife from far away lands and teach her to play Dominion and explain jokes.

He'll just have to find the Land of Tall Beautiful Blue Women

I'm sure the right girl is waiting for him, gazing out from atop the tallest watchtower.

She'll topdeck him and then trash him probably
-
You still coming to ucon this year? :)
You remind me so much of what I was like 10 years ago. Enjoy the end of high school and college afterwards!
-
She'll topdeck him and then trash him probably
No, she'll try, but when she goes to trash him, she'll have lost track of him.

As long as we all agree he'll be trashed when he "dumps" him.

Have to say I never realised just how young you were Liopoil. I mostly don't really think about the ages of people on here - I know Sudgy is pretty young and Joseph2302 is an old geezer, but mostly I'm surprised you're like, about as old as most of the kids I work with, and yet have come across as having the same level of maturity and intelligence as everyone else here.
The forum will no doubt be topdecked in my browser less now that you're gone.

How has no one linked "Hello, Goodbye" yet? I mean come on people.
As someone who also did math stuff in high school, then slipped into CS in college, here's some unsolicited advice:
- Although it's better to struggle a little, it's entirely okay to drop a course because it's too difficult.
- Humanities can be annoying, especially in high school, but don't underestimate it. Writing well is stupidly useful and critically attacking your own position is also stupid useful (and at least for me, it's much harder for me to do that when there's no proof/mathematical structure.)
- People are awesome. If you don't think so, it means you haven't found the right people.

We will surely miss you liopoil. I know what it's like, sometimes this place does feel like too much work and distraction on top of other things. Although, you will probably come back sometime in college. Somehow, in college you find free time even when there is none to be had. Good luck and I'm sure you're off to do great things. Just remember to check in and brag about them every so often.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I upvoted all the replies in this thread, even:
We'll miss you sudgy!
Also, this hit me kind of hard:
Congrats on youngest burnout record.
Because that's definitely not what I want, but it's totally what it sounds like and may to some extent be happening. I'll keep this in mind.

Yeah.

I hope so!

I completely agree with all this. I might end up slipping into CS (or some other mathematical science) too.
Probably my OP is not entirely accurate. I can see how it would suggest that I have a different attitude than the above three. None of my courses are currently too difficult, just take a lot of work. That's high school. Writing is important and hard, yeah. I've met plenty of awesome people.
Hope too see you back soon, maybe once you hit college! (Those classes are going to be easier, right?)
One can hope. I'm most looking forward to non-standardized curricula. AP is so dumb. I'm sure that they won't be easier, but I hope that the course structure and material will motivate me to put in the work much more.
For example, my AP Statistics class. Statistics is interesting. There is cool math behind it. It really shouldn't be too hard to get me invested in that class. But not only does the course refuse to talk about any math whatsoever, it dumbs down the material as much as possible and is clearly teaching to the test. It encourages memorization and replacing your brain with a TI-84 calculator. The homework questions in the textbook are horribly repetitive and uninteresting and the lectures in class just parrot the book. This combined with the fact that homework is just 15% of the grade leads to my homework average of 60% and overall average of 93%. This is the sort of thing that I hope I won't have to deal with in college. /rant
On the bright side, my school offers multiple math and science extracurriculars which are quite good and have plenty of student-interest.
Oh, and I've checked out the state of online dominion and the league/fds championships. Looking forward to playing some Dominion this winter break, and maybe Adventures will be available?
EDIT: I was back for a solid week, played in the Uconn tournament, now I'll be gone again until mid-December at least.
