From Duplicate text:
When you gain a card costing up to 6 coins, you may call this to gain a copy of that card.
Can I call this when I cannot gain a copy?
(to upgrade it to Duchy)
(For example, Dame Sylvia)
Can I call this when I am possessing to mess up the opponent's deck?
I thought both are NO.
Is this correct?
Please let me know.

Yes, you can call Duplicate even when there is no copy available to gain. I'm not sure what you're thinking of about upgrading into a Duchy though; Upgrade only works on cards in your hand, and calling Duplicate puts Duplicate in your play area, not your hand.
No, you can't call your opponent's Duplicate on a Possession turn; Duplicate can only be called "when you gain a card", and your opponent can't gain anything while you're possessing them.

Play Horn of Plenty with 7 uniques -> gain the last card of a pile -> call Duplicate -> play Horn of Plenty with 8 uniques -> gain Province.

This was pretty confusing, I thought you meant you could somehow gain another Province with the Duplicate for a while.

No, you can't call your opponent's Duplicate on a Possession turn; Duplicate can only be called "when you gain a card", and your opponent can't gain anything while you're possessing them.
But you can call your own Duplicate on your opponent's Possession turn (that you are controlling) when you gain a card due to making your opponent try to gain a card.

I thought of upgrading next turn.
Now I see calling is not contingent on gaining another.
