Post by: mee on July 10, 2015, 02:02:09 pm

witch.

sea hag's attack is about 5% meaner, but +2 cards is so much better than nothing.

If two witches watched two watches, which witch would watch which watch?

I'm pretty sure it's "swatch watches" ;)

In many cases Witch > Familiar as well because of the opportunity cost of getting potion and the slightly better cycling from Witch's one extra card.

My brother once used Sea Hag and I used Witch. My brother crushed me, and he used this as proof that Sea Hag > Witch.

Ugh. The plural of anecdote is not data.

The board is Ambassador, Sea Hag, Marauder, Witch, Torturer, Mountebank, Soothsayer, Cultist, Giant, Swamp Hag.  Events are Ferry and Alms.  Which corner do you run and cry into?

If you're criticizing him, awesome. If you're criticizing me, I was posting this to show how silly it was. I think he hit my Witch with Sea Hag the first two shuffles, too.

It's probably just a rush for Cultists powered by Ferry. Pick up Gold over Cultist once Ruins are out or nearly out, some of the Provinces will run and the game will 3-pile on Cultist, Ruins and Duchies. This pattern isn't that unusual for Cultist games in general, unfortunately.

Knew a Wiccan girl who jumped into trading those watches at the height of their popularity, and she was very successful.

She cut a wide witch swath swapping Swatch watches.

Moral: Don't knock knick-knacks that go tick-tock.

the sea hag has a 1 in 11 chances of hitting your opponents witch  plus it puts the curse in your opponents deck sooner  if there is a smithy or a better drawing card for after sea hag becomes useless that will be better than witch's draw 2
also you will be wanting to get a second curser  and that 2nd one will probably be a sea hag although if u got your 1st witch idk what the odds are of getting 5 in your next cycle
this is all assuming you don't buy anything for 2 but I would get a cellar.

Witch cycles your deck faster, and your terminal drawer might draw a dead Sea Hag, which is very bad. Of course, it depends on the board though.

Like, if I have a 4/3 on a board with Sea Hag and Witch, it's a much more interesting question whether I open double Silver and hold out for Witch or if I just open Sea Hag. Of course this depends on the board but this decision is close.

If I have a 5/2, I'm very happy and I just open Witch.

Sea Hag just isn't a very good card. With any decent trashing at all, it's usually safe to just ignore her (I know, I know, that beautiful fuchsia hair in the moonlight is hard to resist).

I'm criticising him for using this as proof. Also how did that (my) post get into one of the top messages of the week? Slow F.DS week I suppose. We need more Apothecary x Herbalist love stories to soak up the respect.

Sea Hag just isn't a very good card.

Really? I thought it was generally considered to be one of the strongest $4s.

It's not as good as it's generally considered to be.

EDIT: I'd still say that it's a very good card though, but I think it's weaker than Young Witch and Marauder.

Even if it is; one of the strongest $4s isn't going to be as good as your average $5.

Right, but "not as good as your average $5" is different to "not a very good card". There are plenty of $4s that you would say the former about but not the latter.

Yeah, I meant what I said. That's my opinion and if you had asked me two years ago I wouldn't have said it.

I consider myself a better Dominion player than I was two years ago, but there have also been a couple of expansions since then.

And the comparison of Sea Hag vs. "an average $5" -- I agree with everything that has been said but I also want to point out that Witch is one of the stronger $5 cards out there.

If you have to choose between Witch and a Cultist, it's not even a contest. Easily Cultist is better.

If vineyards are available and a strong engine would beat Cultist-BM anyway, Witch could certainly be better than Cultist.
