Title: Storytelling with Cards
Post by: eHalcyon on June 05, 2015, 10:33:37 pm
After some earlier (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=13357.msg496231#msg496231) story puzzles (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=13357.msg496997#msg496997) in the Flavor Synergy thread, it seems like it would be a fun thing to have as its own thread.

The idea is to tell a story using only Dominion card names.  The links above have some examples.

Here was one from shmeur:

Here's an easyish story puzzle:

Princess/Merchant Ship/Sea Hag/Trade/Prince/Possession/Save

And this post by Ghacob looks like it's meant to be a story as well:

Peasant/Farming Village/Prince
Princess/Goons/Pirate Ship
Knights/Save/Princess

My masterpiece from 2012:

What's the most complex sentence you can put together that consists ONLY of the names of Dominion cards, but still makes sense?

Island Harvest Hamlet Familiar Explorer Tribute Stash Tunnel Catacombs Inn Abandoned Mine Followers Loan Cartographer Treasure Map Smugglers Develop Bazaar Contraband Trade Route Caravan Hoard Great Hall Rats

I land, harvest ham, let familiar explorer tribute stash, tunnel catacombs in abandoned mine; followers loan cartographer treasure map; smugglers develop bizarre contraband trade route caravan, hoard great haul --  rats!

I return from my sea voyage and harvest my swine herd, and let an explorer I've worked with before pay me from his own pocket for exploratory rights in the caves connected to my abandoned mining operation. Unfortunately, my followers take notes of the catacombs and lend them to an untrustworthy mapmaker! Soon, smugglers establish a route to transfer good illegally underground through my lands, without sharing any of the profits with me. Nuts!

There need to be more Dominion cards so we can tell more varied stories.

Well, going by the length I'd guess the Game of Thrones series? I really can't confirm as I only read the first book. (series? What series?)

Here's a whacky one:
Urchin, Estate.
Sage, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Treasure Hunter -> Estate
Feast. (Urchin: "Curse!")
Scheme: Adventure! Urchin:=Thief. "Borrow" Familiar's Hoard.
Venture... [...]
Mine: Thief -> Treasury. Thief -> Marauder ("Mine Treasury, Mine!"). Thief+Marauder: Tournament. Thief: Prize!
Thief+Treasury=Thief
Marauder: "Thief! Thief! Mine Treasury!"
[...]
Tunnel: Thief:=Scout -> Hoard.
Thief+Treasury+Familiar=Thief!
Familiar->City: Pillage.
Militia: Familiar->Death Cart.
[...]
Militia+Militia+Militia+Militia+Militia=Rabble.

Magpies!

Pirate Ship, Treasure Trove, Curse -> Ghost Ship
Expedition, Island, Cache, Gold

The Phantom Menace?

Pawn, Teacher = Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon.  Jar Jar leads them to the Gungans, then the occupied city of Theed.  Harem refers to slavery, Tournament to the podracing, Remake to reinstalling a new hyperdrive.  Bureaucrat = Senate/Valorum/Palpatine, Minion = Gunray?  Torturer = Maul?  I'm guessing the Chapel refers to the reactor core area behind the laser force field thing.

Pawn, Teacher. Minion! Pathway, Village. Minion, Ruined Village. Pathway, Scout, Remodel. Harem, Tournament, Remake! Bureaucrat, Pathway, Minion! Torturer! Teacher, Chapel. Torturer, Chapel. Pawn, Feast!
Star Wars
You're just saying that because I am Darth Vader. If it's Star Wars, what movie is it?

The Phantom Menace?

Pawn, Teacher = Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon.  Jar Jar leads them to the Gungans, then the occupied city of Theed.  Harem refers to slavery, Tournament to the podracing, Remake to reinstalling a new hyperdrive.  Bureaucrat = Senate/Valorum/Palpatine, Minion = Gunray?  Torturer = Maul?  I'm guessing the Chapel refers to the reactor core area behind the laser force field thing.

Excellent. :)

Chapel was being trashed, or dying. Torturer was Maul. Minion was baddies in general.

We do have the perfectly good Death Cart for that.

Here's another:

Princess, Mission, Saboteur!  Knights, Save, Hunting Party!  SaboteurMinion, Transmogrify, Death Cart!
Scrying Pool, Scheme!  Mission, Pathfinding, Saboteur.
Disciple->Soothsayer->Death Cart!  Pathfinding, Save, Death Cart!  Death Cart, Death Cart, Death Cart, Death Cart, Death Cart...
Pathfinding, Saboteur!  Duplicate Saboteur!  Hunting Party!  Scheme, Rogue!  Conspirators!
DuplicateSaboteurs x ArtificerSoldiers!
Rogue, Disciple, Knight!  Rogue, Teacher!
Bureaucrat, Duplicate Militia!

Monty Python and the quest for the holy grail
