I like the Ill-Gotten Gains event. Gaining a Copper and a Silver is a good idea. I think the whole "Special Village" idea is an interesting thought exercise, but I wouldn't want villages to actually work that way.

Border Village would be noticeably weaker if it didn't have a $6 cost in your deck.

Of course, the fact that the Event has a fixed $6 cost would in turn make it stronger with cost reducers.

I don't know if Trash for Benefit loopholing is my favorite Dominion gameplay anyway, really.

Border Village for sure doesn't need it for it to be a very relevant card.

I like the idea but there are still differences no matter how you spin the Events:
- You wouldn't be able to trash the card later, i.e. no trash-for-benefit effects
- They wouldn't run out, like how supply piles do
- They wouldn't contribute to 3-pile endings
- They wouldn't bump up your Gardens, Fairgrounds, etc.
- They wouldn't be something to discard after you've drawn your deck (Horse Traders, Vault, Secret Chamber)

So although the idea of having the Events instead is cool, they would certainly change some game mechanics.

Agreed. The question is whether they change for the better or the worse. Ill-Gotten Gains would be arguably better as an Event because it wouldn't run out two piles at once. Masterpiece I like better as a card; it's cool to be able to Mine or Taxman it. I think it's only nostalgia telling me that Cache is better as a card. Probably it's fine as an Event, maybe even better.

I like IGG's funky Copper-gaining though.  Someone recently posted that it might be interesting if the IGG pile was bigger or smaller, to make it tougher to run out both piles.  That sounded cool to me.

I like it too, but maybe it's worth losing that.

I think Cache would be better as an Event.

I think Cache would be better as an Event.

It would still stink though.  I can't think of scenarios in which the event would be significantly better than the card, therefore it's still almost never worth the $5.

I think IGG becomes a much more boring card without the ability to run out 2 piles at once.

But as an Event, it doesn't take up a Kingdom Card slot, and doesn't use 10 cards that are just Golds (except worse because they're cheaper) once they're in your deck.

It's kind of nifty in general when a card that exists in one expansion could have appeared in a different expansion using a totally different mechanic but with basically the same effect. For instance, Distant Lands could have been in Prosperity as "Trash this; if you do, +4 VP."

So much weaker though. (Gardens, Fairgrounds, Silk Road.)

(I don't think interacting differently with like a half dozen out of 236 cards really makes it "so much" different.)

Embargo tokens are pretty much like other Adventures tokens; I wonder why DXV didn't make use of them in Adventures (other than the cost of producing a second set of components).

For that matter, lots of Seaside cards, like Smugglers, Embargo, Island, and Pirate Ship could have been Events (as Events, they would't cost an Action, but would cost a Buy--don't know if that would make them stronger or weaker).

All of those would play very differently as Events. As cards, you need to put them in your deck, draw them and then spend an Action playing them. Smugglers, for example, would be very different if you could pay to use it any time instead of only when you manage to draw it with a spare Action.
