Title: Dice Tower Review of Adventures (Post any other reviews here too I guess)
Post by: jsh357 on April 23, 2015, 09:52:21 pm
I am kind of surprised this is already out, but a lot of people watch TDT so I guess it warrants a thread.

Note: the actual review starts around 13:50.  The stuff before that is just him going over some cards.

He seems to like this one.  I'm honestly a little surprised, given how "meh" he was on Dark Ages and Guilds.

I cringe every time he dumps every single card out onto the floor.

He didn't like Dark Ages, but I thought he quite liked Guilds?

Port...

"If I have 4 on my first turn this is a great buy!"

If Baker is on the board you can open Port/Port/Port/Port. Pro tip.

Or Borrow.

That said, if you were second player and your opponent gave you a good terminal with Messenger, and there's another good terminal at 3, I could actually see opening Port.

In a multi-player game, you may often open Port just to make sure you get your share of them. They run out fast, and while buying them hampers your ability to buy $5 cards (relative to e.g. Silver), it does not hamper your ability to buy more Ports.

I completely disagree on his thoughts on the components - the mats and tokens are very solid cardboard, look quite nice, and I see them lasting a long time.

I think the components are very solid, buy not very attractive. They could have had a decorative border or something.

Also, Purple >>> Orange.

A THOUSAND TIMES YES

Is anyone else really bugged by his wrong use of Dominion terminology? He sounds like someone who barely knows the game. Calls the kingdom piles "decks", calls coin "gold". Even referring to Throne Room as "doubling" another card, though maybe that one is commonly used by people who understand how it really works.

And Port is a great first-turn buy??

Also, he seems to think that Militia will counter Hireling; which is wrong.

He likes board games. That doesn't mean he is very good at board games.

Although, admittedly I was annoyed by his terminology before I ever even knew about this site.

Man everyone must have stopped watching after "I always buy Port on Turn 1" because no one mentioned "(pointing at Giant) This is a more mild version of the Saboteur"

Edit: also "Transmogrify... is a great way to get rid of Curses"  ::)

But it is. When Poor House is on the kingdom and you want it.

Also when you just drew a hand of Gold, Silver, Curse, Curse, Moneylender.  I guess he is right!

Transmogrifying Curse into Copper isn't great, but I've done it and not regretted it.

I watched the whole thing.  I cringed several times, but overall I don't mind.  Tom Vasel plays so, so many games, and even people who play a lot of Dominion aren't necessarily very good.  Just take a look at BGG forum threads. ;)
