So we've had more than one occasion where forumers have, with varying levels of good humor, bickered about sharing a card art avatar. Therefore, I think it'd be a good idea to have a list of who's what, so newbies can see if they're concerned about picking a unique avatar.
I was Platinum for a good while, but I've switched to Advisor.

It's tempting to make an avatar that slowly cycles through a bunch of different avatars of frequent posters.
Man. You can make your avatar unique if you want to. Dress it up. Put something in the hand that Advisor's holding up. Have him talking to someone else. You know. Then you'll be the only one with it. Except briefly when someone copies it to be hilarious.

I don't like the idea of this. There aren't that many cards, and there are many members of the forum. Let people use the same one - you can just look at the name to not get people mixed up.

I kinda agree with WW that it shouldn't be a big deal if people end up using the same avatar as another person, but I still think a list like this is a neat idea as a reference for people choosing a new avatar and wanting a unique one rather than just their favorite art or card.

I've not seen any bickering, I saw a polite request followed by some humorous banter following it.
And if anyone does try to 'claim' card art for themselves I'm going to be sorely tempted to use that card art and try to post in the same threads as them, and if there's one person here you don't want to be confused for it's me....(or possibly Walrus, he's scary)

Maybe "claim" wasn't the right word. Just call it "list of Dominion cards used as avatar" or something. If I hadn't grown attached to my current avatar and decided to use a card instead, I would definitely like to use one that nobody else is using, and this would help me do so.

If what people want is a quick place to see who is using what avatar, uhh, well maybe people can make a list for that, but that doesn't require a thread for people to sign up and be on the list. And that list can constantly change; I don't think we can expect people to post in a thread when they change their avatar, and I don't think we can expect someone to keep updating this list if people do that. The only way that list can be useful or accurate is if it's created automatically, like go to this website and it will tell you who's using a Dominion card as their avatar right now.
That would belong in the Meta forum, I guess? It doesn't have anything to do with Dominion though.

The only thing that can possibly come of this is people bickering over who has more Imaginary Internet Rights To Be The Sole Person Who Has A Particular Dominion Card Avatar (IIRTBTSPWHAPDCA). As you can see I've bolded the relevant letters in this acronym, since that's where the threads are that are for arguing about stuff that isn't Dominion. If this is done in RSP then I can easily pretend it doesn't exist, since that's certainly not becoming of this wonderful Dominion community.

I don't think people should be claiming exclusivity rights to card art, there's only 200ish cards (+some Iso art), and far more members than that. This thread means that new members might not be allowed to use art of their favourite card, simply because someone else says they can't. That doesn't seem fair, and isn't going to encourage them to stay around very long, if their first forum action is to be told "Someone already has that avatar, change it".

You may be right, and I actually hope you are because this thread/concept dying is better than people arguing over something that can't be enforced.

Not every disagreement has to go in the RSP forum? If anything it should go in the forum feedback, but nobody looks in there.

You wouldn't need this would you? Doesn't it backfil to all your old posts when you update.
That all being said, I still fail to see the need for it at all, its a complete non-entity of an idea for me.

Man I don't see why this is so terrible. I thought the whole thing was in good fun. A newby did indeed request a reference for which avatars are already in use. That's really what this is; not some weird patenting thing. I think the only people taking it seriously are those who are worried that other people will take it seriously.

Hi, I feel somewhat responsible for this. I mostly asked if there was a list because I thought it was absurd to imagine a forum would let you search for such a thing and that making a list by hand would be unreasonably difficult. But I also asked because my curiosity knows no bounds, and it would be interesting to see who has what card and which cards are unused (Harem?). Then, if someone wanted something unique they could come here and be like, "I know this might be out of date but this isn't a big deal anyway and it's this kind of cool reference thing".
I don't think claiming should be part of this. (Everyone here's friendly, right?)

FWIW, I don't think anyone was actually being particular uncivil here? Just that it was kind of a dangerous proposition. How it is now seems good.

The way it's now, it's easier to search for a user and see which card they have, but if you wanted to do that, you could just use the forum features to search for that person's profile instead.

Having this list is really nice, thanks wero! When I chose Fairgrounds as my avatar I was pretty sure no one else had it, but then I later found out flies also had it, but at that point I didn't want to switch because I thought whatever I switched to, someone else probably already had that too. More recently I started thinking maybe I would change when Adventures came out. But it looks like Procession is open, Procession is probably my favorite card and it has awesome art, so maybe it's time for a switch now.

You can do a google image search for the image; if you're using chrome, just right click on the image and pick that. Mostly it finds Inn on various pages, but it does find some avatars.

Sometimes I wonder if having Ill-Gotten Gains as my avatar makes me look like a jerk. I just really love the art, but the association to IGG rushes may be unavoidable.

EDIT: theory, I've noticed Guilds and Prince haven't been put into the library for card art avatars - I'm willing to make resized versions of them all if you can put them up.

I was just looking at another thread (Donald's ruling on how to handle 5 outposts in a single turn) and on page two and three of that thread, Donald only has ONE green star under his name, as opposed to the 5 I'm used to (and that appear in this thread). Why would that be?

Yes, it because Donald X is only a board moderator for that board. So, it's one green star for boards you moderate, and something else for the rest. Same for other people who are mods of 1 board (e.g. Mafia games mods).

The best way to confuse folks would be to change to the avatar that is your post count card. It would be particularly tough to track people with lower post counts.
That being said, I will not be changing mine, especially now, because I freakin HATE minion.

Iirc it's the only orange 5$ that is not predominately brown/orange in the art itself, so it's natural to recognize it by the blue/grey+orange color scheme when the art and border are combined.
I think most of the <5$ Durations tend to be a different color too.
I'm not gonna fact check myself, forums are more fun if I'm wrong sometimes.

Does the art depict a bird in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that. As someone who is a Dominion player who studies card name and art, I am telling you, specifically, in Dominion, no-one calls Ill-Gotten Gains birds. If you wanted to avoid "edge cases", then you should have said "The art still depicts a bird in the Corvidae family." The card and the card art are not the same thing.

I am, at least temporarily, claiming this bowling ball moon from Wild Hunt. It reminds me of Ghastly the Pokémon and the Soulsphere/Megasphere from Doom. Notice the neat purple streak on the left.
