I doubt it's noon where they are. I'm guessing it's the start of their workday and they're not willing to pay somebody to restart the servers during off-hours.

Blizzard has been doing WOW maintenance on Tuesday morning from 3 AM to 11 AM Pacific -- so, until 2 PM Eastern -- since 2004.

Not much difference between that and Monday.

Restarting servers isn't that hard a thing to automate.  I've done it, and I'll be the first to admit I'm far from an expert sysadmin.

But what if it goes wrong? They may not have anyone on call.

Noon on a Monday seems pretty reasonable. It's not ideal, but it's not terrible. I mean prime work time and prime game time are very different times of day. Right...?

The official Making Funs forum says the maintenance is 9am pacific, so I guess they're in Western US, in which case it's a sensible time.

Just be glad they are doing maintenance at all.  The site was freakin' unusable in the months before they started doing this.

In case you hadn't noticed, the site is still freakin' unusuable without the Salvager extension! Bring back Isotropic #isowasbetter #gokoisworse

Then you have an outage.  That's how I did.  Then again I was running a lab where everyone worked roughly the same hours I did.  For MF, I guess it depends on how reliable their startup process is... assess chance of outage against cost, etc.  But considering they have players in various time zones, 9 AM Pacific is fine anyway.  Midnight in any US time zone would likely affect European players, so unless they have a pool of servers that can do staggered restarts there isn't really an optimal solution.

Isn't maintenance something you do to something that is working to prevent problems in the future?
