Title: Confusable cards

This topic is inspired by an amusing chat exchange on Isotropic:

I've never had the Masquerade/Menagerie confusion happen, but there are certainly times when I've seen Mint in the supply, thought it was Mine, and trashed a bunch of treasure I didn't want to trash; or had a plan that depended on using a Farmland buy to remodel something only to realize when I went to buy the Farmland that it was actually Fairgrounds.

What other similar-named cards do people find themselves mistaking for each other and buying when they want the other one?

The really bad one for me is when there's chapel and cellar in the same kingdom setup.  I've accidentally bought the cellar on multiple occasions, then wonder why my chapel isn't showing up  :(

You need more than just similar names - you also need the same price point and card type (Action, Treasure, etc.).  Which all of the examples submitted so far exemplify. 

And I'll add another:  Cache and Stash.  "Where did all those Coppers come from?!"

I've done the Farmland / Fairgrounds one twice... Mint/Mine I did, but even worse, I didn't notice that I trashed my treasures, and proceeded to play Mint on a Copper, thinking I would get a Silver back.

I've also mixed up Warehouse / Courtyard. Not sure why, I just got confused. I played Courtyard when I had other actions to play; thinking I would get +1 action from it.

It has nothing to do with confusing their names because they look alike, but rather in their function of passing a card...

I confuse Masq and Ambassador. Sometimes I click Ambassador and am like "HEY! Where are the new cards I could pick from?!?", or the opponent plays his ambassador and I'm like "YES! I can pass this curse over... sucker haha!... not.".
Other times, I get Masq, copper, copper, Estate Estate and think "Good! Return 2 estates to the supply..."

Anyway. I'm not a moron I swear. lol.

Yeah, true... although there was a period when I always confused Coppersmith with Counting House, and they're not even at the same price point.

And I'll add another:  Cache and Stash.  "Where did all those Coppers come from?!"

I've totally done that one too.

Courtyard / Crossroads, because they cost the same and well, they both start with 'C'. :)

I've done tunnel and Fool's Gold, even though they are at diffeent price points and aren't even close in name.

I think this was due to the isotropic's colorful hybrid cards image for both and that they are usually on the bottom of the kingdom.

I kinda like the German names, but yes, those can be quite confusing. More annoying is the often horrible translation of what the cards do... for example, Chancellor's "You may" in the earliest versions is missing, King's Court also is missing "You may", Pirate ship said "every player" and not "every other player". There are more wrong cards, but those are all I can think of now. However, Hans im Glück does a nice job with complaints.

I consistently mix up Bishop and Baron, but only on Isotropic. In real life the cards look different enough but the images in Isotropic always get me. Ugh... And then I play it thinking I am going to trash a copper and instead get a stupid estate! I have mixed them up--almost always wanting Bishop instead of Baron--at least 5 times. You would think I would learn.

I once played a Masquerade, and, meaning to pass a Copper, clicked the first thing that started with a C. It was probably the easiest Colony my opponent's ever gotten...

Oracle and Fortune Teller

-Both predict the future
-Both are $3
-Both are terminal actions
-Both give a meh benefit
-Both make a meh attack
-Attack is a paragraph long and a pain to read in both cases

The fact that they're unimpressive added to this confusion makes me rarely buy either of them.

I think I've confused any pair of cards that it is possible to confuse. Sometimes I use the colour of the name on isotropic and mix up a horse traders and trader. A couple of similar letters will work for woodcutter and workshop. My typing suffers similarly with my brain moving on while my fingers are hitting the wrong keys.

Haven/Hamlet. I think beyond the similar name and price, the meaning of the words are sort of related (like Farmland/Fairgrounds or Cache/Stash), and they're both WD-40 for a lot of deck engines. One is on the first "best $2" list, and the other is bound to join the next list.

When Intrigue, my first set, was brand new: Baron/Bridge, Swindler/Saboteur

Counting House/Council Room. I don't know what I bought them together; probably to use +buy from Council Room to buy copper ? Anyway, I played Council Room instead of Counting House and triggered a reshuffle, which is very bad for Counting House.

Another pair is ... Copper/Colony. both have six letters and start with Co-. To make the matter worse, I misread when I played Ambassador and sent my Colony away instead of Copper.

Finally, Throne Room/Trade Route. When you play multiple Throne Rooms, it's hard to keep track of how many actions you have left. I played at least five Throne Rooms and then Trade Route. Forgetting that I had to trash a card twice, I trashed Throne Room when I really meant to play it, and was confused where my last Throne Room went. The blue text for both cards are very similar (choose a card to trash/play twice : then a long list).

I tend to confuse Bishop and Baron. I don't know why. The both start with B and are worth $4.
When one of them is on board, I always double check if the card does what I thought it does.

I have, at least once, confused masquerade and envoy when they were played by my opponent in a game when they were both present. It's pretty embarrassing to pass your opponent a gold when you thought you were making them DISCARD a gold.
