Fortress is a great defense against individual enemies--the Knights, Swindler, Saboteur, Rogue--but not against massed enemies--Goons, Militia, Mercenary, Followers. You'd think that the reverse would be true, where a lone spy could sneak into a fortress but a large army could not.

(Yeah, I know the edge cases: it actually makes sense that a Fortress can't stop magic attacks (Witch etc), and it also can't protect against Cutpurse--but throw me a bone here).

What if it's like an Ocean's Eleven kind of thing? Or some kind of siege?

With one person, the operation is over once they are caught and killed. Just consider how many respawns B.J. Blascowitz needed to escape/raid Castle Wolfenstein. However, Spy is covert enough to do his job on the Fortress.

It's not quite an oxymoron, but it is an ironic phrase since one typically expects ambassadors to seek peaceful diplomatic resolutions to conflict, in contrast to war.

Most of the edge cases described in this forum are extremely contrived and rarely found in normal play. Heron is making fun of this... feature... by drawing your attention to the fact that we have to point out when an edge case is actually relevant. Some members found the level of self-awareness funny enough to upvote heron's post.

Of course, there are edge cases to everything I just described, but they are probably not relevant to my point, nor your enjoyment of the joke, which I just increased for you and everybody else for that matter.

How is that the maximum?  I can only see KC + Bridge * 10 + Highway * 10 + Princess = $43.  If it was an action, you could also get ten Quarries to make it $63, but it's not an action (I think).  You can't use the Procession-Rogue/Graverobber trick here because Processioning a Bridge makes it cost $2.
