Title: 4/17 Updates
Post by: jsh357 on April 18, 2014, 09:36:21 am
For those of you who don't read the MakingFun forums, looks like there was a relatively significant update today:

This update includes:

Wow, I don't really like that Ace of Spades. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the graphics well.
Also I fear Hamlet and Jack will still cause problems with accidental discarding/trashing, I'd prefer having it ask for confirmation if your move seems unlikely.
Tests fro proper HTML5 support sound intriguing though.

I think asking an AI to make that call is a bad idea. False positives (did you really want to discard your Bishop?) would be annoying and false negatives (I wanted to play that Ruined Library!) would still happen.

I've suggested to them many times that the solution to misclicks like these is to make it so that the only thing clicking on the card itself ever does it plays the card. If you're doing anything else (discarding, trashing, etc.) then they should have arrows over the card (or something similar) that you have to click to do those things. All of this other stuff they're doing is still useful, but now you have to go through that extra mental step of moving your mouse cursor to some different place than normal when you're doing something different than normal.

I believe this is why we didn't have this type of problem on isotropic.

I've suggested this to them before, but I suppose this is a step in the right direction.

I edited the OP to give it bullet points matching the those in the MakingFun post. I think it's a little nicer looking that way.

I wonder how long before some player posts on Making Fun's forums (or maybe here) asking why in the heck they can wish for Ace of Spades when they play Wishing Well.

I think that's a price worth paying.

I am not thrilled with the glowing red. I am mentioning it in case someone wants to chime in. I haven't blown it in the few games I've played with it but I don't think it's doing the trick. I think a big X over the card would be better.

For me, making mistakes by clicking on cards hasn't been much of a problem in a while. The button placement is my real nemesis.

I'd much rather have the End Turn button always in the same place, same size, and nothing else ever be there. A similar "reserved spot" for the Done Playing Actions button, Play Treasures, Coin Token, etc. I mean I know they're trying to conserve space but why not have two columns of buttons or something?

Is it just me, or did the update bring about lag during the buy phase?
