Title: Axxle is Baxxle
Post by: Axxle on February 25, 2014, 09:01:50 pm
Hey all! I've been away from the forums for a while but now I'm back (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M6samPEMpM).

But who is Axxle really? A lot of you know me from the forum games section: helping pops familiarize and addicting you all to mafia, but beyond that?

I'm tall (6'6"), dark(half-hispanic), and handsome(according to Mom).

I was the last person to run BGG's Dominion League (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/940), which was the best way to compete before the leaderboard was implemented. I was first introduced to Dominion at USC by some of my grad student friends, who quickly showed me how in depth the strategy could be, no real big money phase for me.

I love board games in general, my favorite has got to be Cosmic Encounter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaOC9danxNo).  I just love the balance of tactics, social ability, and chaos.

My philosophy is to love living life. Have fun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIb6AZdTr-A&list=RDPIb6AZdTr-A) at every opportunity. Traveling to other countries, games, skydiving, music festivals, paintball, musicals, tv, drinking, books, karaoke, comics, whatever.

I'm a videogame programmer which I'm stoked about. The current one I'm working on is Nosgoth (http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Nosgoth), a crazy multiplayer game that pits ranged vs melee against each other. The toughest thing was iterating to make it balanced and fun and I think we're getting it! It's also the biggest reason I've been away, working on it sapped any kind of organizational energy I had.

I think that's bare bones enough? Any questions?

Haha! I program in Unrealscript and C++ mostly, no web work here.

Favorite musical?

My personal favorite is Les Mis partly due to performing in the pit orchestra during high school for it.  The theme of redemption and grace along with musical themes make it absolutely fantastic in my opinion.  I love how both Jean Val Jean and Javert sing to the same music when they contemplate what they've been given.  Jean Val Jean being pardoned and given a second chance by the Bishop decides to change his life and accept grace while Javert unable to accept that Jean Val Jean gave him grace when he expected death, takes his own life.  They are literally singing to the exact same musical score at those points and the contrast of characters is just phenomenal.  Okay, I just totally geeked out about Les Mis, I guess that explains why it's my favorite.

I actually haven't seen les mes yet, I only hear good things about it though.

My favorite is actually the London production of Avenue Q. The blend of comedy and emotional portions was lovely. It's a fine fine line is probably the only song I've sung in my sleep.

It's interesting that you specify the London production, is that just the version you've seen or are there actually big differences between it and the American production? I do remember seeing a recording of a British performance where they changed the line in the "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" song from "Polack jokes" to "French jokes".

On my "List of Meeting People Who I Have Interacted With Only Online But Looked Nothing Like What I Had Expected Them To Look Like", Axxle was pretty high up there.  Literally.

This has destroyed how I pictured you, do you at least have like shaggy medium length hair and rock a like 3/4 day unshaven look?

Don't ask me why my mental pictures of people are so detailed..

Yes to the hair.

I have a 3/4 day unshaven look occasionally, though now it's more like 3/4 weeks.
