Title: Request for newbie mafia
Post by: AndrewisFTTW on February 10, 2014, 09:42:38 pm
Hey guys I know nobody is going to create a game just for me but I'm interested in trying mafia out. I've never played and I feel like I'd be completely lost joining one of the more complicated games. Any other new players out there that want to try it out?

We usually have a simpler setup open...  All of the vets still like playing simple setups every now and then and it's fine to play one with you.

Awesome! We would be glad to welcome you to the community!

As sudgy said we run newbie games when there is a demand and look here you are! So I imagine we will get one running in the next little bit and hopefully be able to recruit a handful of newer players to play with a couple of the older timers...

Adventure Time is simple enough to be newbie friendly.  There's at least one other newbie playing it.

I know for some people, looking at it at first glance, it doesn't seem to be newbie friendly.  In the end, it's a fairly simple setup for a player, but it's hard for a newbie to realize that.

Also, any time I played a ++ game until the last one I played, I had no idea what anyone was talking about when they were talking about the setup.

That's a fair point.  The other newbie who signed up asked questions by PM.

Once the setup is set up, it's a fairly straightforward game.

I guess the best way to learn is to just take of my clothes and get to it.... I mean.... play mafia.

Sorry if my questions are stupid but which one is the newbie mafia game? I suppose you cannot join when it's already started? So when can I expect a new game to be started?

There's currently isn't a newbie friendly game open for sign-ups.

We'll make sure you both are aware and signed up when it does.

If you are interested feel free to watch the game that is currently on going...

to get a sense of what forum mafia is like. Feel free to simply post a "/tag" into the thread so it shows up into your "new replies to your post" feed and maybe Walrus will even given you a spectator link to a quicktopic so you can discuss the going-ons with other people

Hope you both get a chance to play, feel welcome and have fun with mafia!

I just opened a newbie game, so if you're interested, come and signup (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=10647.0) !

It's House of Cards-themed, but that will really just be flavor : you don't need to have seen the show, and won't be spoiled if you intend to see it later.

Okay, so I thought that I'd give it a try now that I generally have a lot of free time, the majority of which I spend refreshing the forums and being annoyed at the lack of new posts. I have a very vague idea of the basics of Mafia, but I don't understand all of the terms and such (I'm obviously willing to look them up when necessary, but there's a lot of stuff and it seems a bit overwhelming). I also learn new stuff super fast. Is there a game that currently accepts sign-ups and could be suitable for a person in my situation?

This one is open. And it looks super fun. Probably won't start for a while though.

Well, RMM games aren't usually the best choice for newbies...

Yeah either way.
A 17 people game might be a little intense for your first mafia experience. But I don't think it's starting anytime soon.
You could probably play and finish a smaller setup before it starts at this rate.
Though it's up to you of course.

I saw it, it looks fun, however a 17-person game involving characters from a programme I haven't seen seen looks like it will be confusing. I'm probably going to wait for a simpler game.
