Seems this year we will get something new, though not a lot.

There will probably be a Dominion promo this year.

I was about to get pissed off if this was about a fan card or what-if, and not a promo.  I was not disappointed.

Because you can bet that Goko's going to get right on implementing it.

I wonder whether it will be a fixed outtake or something completely new, related to some other game like Governor (Puerto Rico) and Walled Village (Carcassonne). Maybe something Power Grid related?

How does walled village relate to carcassone apart from the name? Governor relates to puerto rico in it's action too.

I haven't played Carcassonne, but I'm guessing its mechanics don't translate well into Dominion.

Exactly. I guess you can claim the "put on top of the deck" part is like reclaiming a Meeple after you score it, but maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan that's a stretch.

What about something like...

Tiler - $4
Action - Victory

Worth 1 VP

Trash this and any number of other copies of Tiler from your hand. Each other player may trash any number of copies of Tiler from their hand. For each copy of Tiler that was trashed, +2 VP tokens to each player who trashed at least one copy.

Hmm, so the wording's wonky and it's super swingy, but I think it's somewhat reminiscent of Carcassonne.

It's not a joke. Friedemann Friese is a German developer. His games are green and they start with the letter F in German. You'll notice that "Power Grid" does not start with F, but its German name, "Funkenschlag", does.

We could always go in for unsupported speculation!

I predict that the promo will cost something between $2 and $6, will be some combination of action, victory or treasure, and will do something besides give vanilla bonuses!

In seriousness I hope that it's something outlandish and gimmicky, because that fits the ideas of promos better. Something closer to Black Market than to Walled Village.

I predict that the promo will cost something between $2 and $6

I predict it will cost $5, just like most of the Dominion promos in the BGG Store. ;)

EDIT: I stand corrected. Black Market, Envoy, and Stash are each $2.50. Walled Village and Governor are each $5. I still think it'll cost $5, though.

I think the best promo ever would be either a corrected version of either scout or rebuild but i would not count on that.

So instead i will bet the new promo will be an alternate victory card.

You correct those cards by making them more powerful and weaker, respectively, so if they got corrected, the original versions would get even worse.

I really was thinking new card named Scout and/Or Rebuild with the same previous art. So a real Errata to replace the previous cards completely and not just new cards with the same kind of idea but at a correct power level/ price (there have been already several of those for scout already)

But yes i know we will not see actual errata of cards that really would need them (even if there's only very few of those). But one can dream ^^

Seeing the various posts makes me think that Donald could perhaps publish that Hybrid Victory Card he was talking about in the Guilds' Secret History:

Quote
For a bit I kind of wanted a new action-victory card, and tried +1 Action, reveal a card from your hand for the corresponding Ironworks bonus, 2 VP, for $4. It was fine but I mostly just liked that it was an action-victory card.

But i'm thinking that the concept is quite simple to make for a promo card, so i don't think we will ever see this (at least not as a promo).

I'd LOVE to see the Balcony, though...

The thing about promo cards is that they are designed as promotional tools.  I don't know the history on the existing promos, but wasn't Stash published to commemorate Dominion winning the SdJ?  And Governor and Walled Village for anniversaries of Puerto Rico and Carcassonne?

What is happening this year that would prompt a promo?  My guess is that this will be the online-only promo intended to promote Goko.

Huh, you may be right that it wasn't made clear. Perhaps I misremembered. Sorry about that. I think he would have specified if he meant online-only promo, though. Otherwise people will be upset when they expected a physical one. Someone can ask Donald to confirm.

Of the five released Promos, only Governor really matches that description.  Walled Village was a Carcassonne tie-in, but it's not visible in the mechanics.  Black Market and Stash are card ideas that would have been tricky to fit into an expansion.  Envoy is dead to me because Goko refuse to take my money.

Goko
Action - $3

+2 Coins. Each player trashes the top card of their deck, representing their favorite online gaming platform, and gains a sucky card of supposedly equal value that you choose.

This only works if you used Highway or Bridge to make Grand Market cost $0, then you trash it and Reverse Highway/Bridge to make Copper cost $3 (although I suppose one could argue that Goko has worked its way up to Silver level, when you use the extension)

More like:

Goko
Action - $4
Each Player reveals the top two cards of their deck. If the first card costs 5 or more, that player must leave the table for at least as many minutes as the cost in coins of the second card. (The player may get a drink, preferably something strong). Each player may trash a card. If a player that is not the active player trashes a card costing more than the most expensive card the player revealed, the player must play the remainder of their turn with their hand facing away from them. Their turn does not end if they attempt to play a card that cannot be played (for example, Estate) but the buy phase will be triggered if they play a treasure.
---
Setup Instructions:
If you do not have Goko Salvager, you must hop around your house/apartment/building visiting each occupied room in the house/apartment/building you are playing in at least once and possibly twice before you can start a game. Goko is a required part of the supply. You may not play dominion without it. It does not take up a kingdom slot however, add it to the game in the same manner you add potions/platinums/colonies.

I suspect they will not have it up as soon as the physical version is available (due to when they get given it or how quickly they get to it), but I do expect they will add it, and will prioritize adding it.

That being said, I wouldn't expect it to be implemented quickly, assuming it's more on the order of Black Market and Stash (rather than Envoy, Walled Village, and Governor). Basically, if it needs a new interface to do its thing, I expect it to take awhile.

That being said, I wouldn't expect it to be implemented quickly, assuming it's more on the order of Black Market and Stash (rather than Envoy, Walled Village, and Governor). Basically, if it needs a new interface to do its thing, I expect it to take awhile.
Here's a secret about the promo that perhaps it's time to reveal:

LastFootnote playtested the promo.

Sorry if I was being too obvious about that.

Anyway, now that the secret's out, I will just say that I expect that it will take quite a while to correctly implement the promo on Dominion Online. Unless MakingFun's programmers are way better than Goko's were.

Also, I will say that the new promo is lots of fun and easily my favorite promo card thus far!

No, that's separate. I believe it's been made clear that this is a physical promo.

When/where was this?  The only info I have is from that BGG thread.

Huh, you may be right that it wasn't made clear. Perhaps I misremembered. Sorry about that. I think he would have specified if he meant online-only promo, though. Otherwise people will be upset when they expected a physical one. Someone can ask Donald to confirm.

This exchange makes more sense now.  Sorry if it made you uncomfortable.

How did you get to be a playtester?
My old online Dominion playtesters are mostly gone to the four winds (Jeff Wolfe is still playtesting stuff for me, and Wei-Hwa discussed the card wording with me). I wanted another outside playtester, in particular just as another data point on how fun the card was. I looked at some posters here and on BGG. LastFootnote was especially active and was still playing. So I offered up playtesting the promo and he went for it.

I play at public game nights with whoever shows up wanting to play, so that's a good way to be a playtester. Someone eHunt knows played with the promo that way.

I mocked it up and played with my friends and family. Then I sent feedback. Really the only feedback I gave is, "This card is awesome" along with a small logistical suggestion.

All I ask is that Goko makes this purchasable. I already have the 5 promos, so it is impossible for me to get otherwise unless I can outright buy it. Oh mighty Donald X. can you please tell MakingFun to do this? I mean what would they rather have, money or frustrated customers?

Right, is it really that important that we play the adventures? I'd pay actual money for Governor/Envoy/WV.

The idea at one point was that there would be multiple ways to get promos; adventures were just one way. The idea also was that adventures would be fun rather than awful. If you couldn't win tournaments and didn't want to shell out money, it would be nice that you could play some fun games of Dominion to get the promos. Obv. it has not worked out like that.

Obv. there's no point to programming the promo if you can't get it. At the same time they are extremely mindful of the need to make money from online Dominion. So I wouldn't worry there.

Yeah, it'd just be cool to actually get one in the setting you're supposed to for once.  Not to mention enter a tournament.  Fun times!

(I did actually win all 4 promos back when there were only 4 from a local tournament, but I already owned them at the time and ended up giving them to the runner-ups.)

Edit:

First I've heard of it.

I would think a set of cards chosen to work well together would be better, like the Japanese rethemes. I guess the new German publisher is kind of antsy, trying to make sure things are happening.

Huh, looks like they've also released an expansion version of Intrigue (no extra base cards).

I don't really see the appeal of the Fan Edition that's redundant with the other sets. I mean I get the appeal from the publisher's perspective, but not from the consumer's perspective.

Surely a fan expansion is something that can get the consumer excited.

You know, Donald X. spent a lot of time deciding on the best way to group the cards into the expansions. Can we really expect a bunch of fans in remote locations voting on the "best hits" to do better?

Yes, this "Fan Edition" seems a little strange - most of the Facebook comments to it are negative too.  ;)
And yes, they recently released an Intrigue expansion version; but it seems to cost more than the old Intrigue edition did. ::)
They have also now started to sell the new Base cards, but for the price of a full game (~25€)...

I'm sure that's what they would prefer, since they asked if they could do such a thing (and I said no). For me a fan expansion is all of the work of an expansion I make except the part where I get to make up cards.

The closest I could see myself getting is co-authoring an expansion with another game designer.

No, don't give Jay any hints. I want it to be a surprise to him too.

Hunting Trasher
Types: Action
Cost: $0
+1 Card. +1 Action. Reveal your hand. Reveal cards from your deck until you reveal a card that isn’t a duplicate of one in your hand. Trash that card and discard the rest.

Well, I was going the direction that the final expansion/card would be the end, so the tailbone would be the natural association.  But Scout also works, depending on how you order.

Prince, $8, Action

You may set this aside. If you do, set aside an Action card from your hand costing up to $4. At the start of each of your turns, play that Action, setting it aside again when you discard it from play. (Stop playing it if you fail to set it aside on a turn you play it.)

Is this real? Seems cool, it's crazy powerful, I was going to complain that this is a level 2 city that always get schemed... but then I realised that it does cost 8.

I guess that if you prince a prince with cost-reducers... what happens, exactly? My guess would be nothing after the first turn, because prince #2 sets itself aside before prince #1 sets it aside.

I have a pilonidal (I hope that's how you spell it) cyst, which means I have some ingrown hairs around my tailbone and it created air pockets, and it can get infected.  You need surgery to get rid of it.  It's actually one of the smallest surgeries possible.  As for how it works, it's not much different than normal surgery, other than that instead of stitches, they just use glue...

EDIT: in all seriousness, how does butt surgery work? What happened? Is it bad?
Now that I know that Elvis was alive this whole time, I don't want to lose him again!
Sorry I couldn't stay serious for long

I have a pilonidal (I hope that's how you spell it) cyst, which means I have some ingrown hairs around my tailbone and it created air pockets, and it can get infected.  You need surgery to get rid of it.  It's actually one of the smallest surgeries possible.  As for how it works, it's not much different than normal surgery, other than that instead of stitches, they just use glue...

You'll be fine. It could always be worse, but at least it's minor. It's also a bit comical, so there's that.

Bahahahahah! Aha! Ha! HA! I see what you did there.

So he named pilonidal cyst and they both were on the top of the deck?

I finally just saw what I did there myself...  I can't believe I just made that joke without meaning to.  (Well, it was originally just supposed to be a mint/mine joke and nothing else.)

Oh no, I'm not falling for this again. There is no other joke here besides the mint/mine joke, and you're just trying to make us all feel mildly dumb!

Edit: Oh no... wait... unless... something with doctor... now Awaclus' comment makes sense... ellipsis... and now I feel mildly dumb.

No, it actually is a joke that I didn't mean to make.  I minted my brother's cyst.
