Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar presents a new game mechanism: dynamic worker placement. Players representing different Mayan tribes place their workers on giant connected gears, and as the gears rotate they take the workers to different action spots.
During a turn, players can either (a) place one or more workers on the lowest visible spot of the gears or (b) pick up one or more workers. When placing workers, they must pay corn, which is used as a currency in the game. When they pick up a worker, they perform certain actions depending on the position of the worker. Actions located "later" on the gears are more valuable, so it's wise to let the time work for you – but players cannot skip their turn; if they have all their workers on the gears, they have to pick some up.
The game ends after one full revolution of the central Tzolkin gear. There are many paths to victory. Pleasing the gods by placing crystal skulls in deep caves or building many temples are just two of those many paths...
BGG description
This is the thread for a PBF game of Tzolk'in. The game will be run almost entirely from this spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApPT0N9WtHcKdG84N0thTERhcnphaHFaTGFnLTdpYWc#gid=4). The main difference between this sheet and the normal game is the lack of gears. When playing the game, turning the main gear (main track on the spreadsheet) will also advance every other gear (track) one space. So at the end of each full turn, every player's workers will be advanced one space along each track. Everything in the game can be done via the spreadsheet, except for starting wealth tiles (which will be done via PM). After that, there's no hidden information, so it should be fairly easy to run.
If you have any other questions about how things on the sheet line up with the normal game, feel free to ask.
The rules can be found here (http://czechgames.com/files/Tzolkin_EN.pdf).
Players (in starting turn order):
Watno
TINAS
Galzria
Kuildeous
How it works is as following: On main tracks, colour is mapped by name in the cell. Just enter your name into the space you want to place in (or delete it to remove a worker) and conditional formatting should deal with the colouring. You need to then adjust anything as needed on the main board page - excluding idle workers, which is automatic. For temples & tracks, everything should be automatic.
Buildings are a bit more complex, so maybe it'd be best if I continue to handle them for now. On the other hand if you're feeling confident, go ahead and do it yourself: Copy any building you build across to your buildings section (adding more rows on the main sheet as necessary). At the end of your turn, copy the whited out row by Age 1/Age 2 (as necessary - age 1 until the midpoint of the game), and paste values into the old building slot. Check what building that is, and put a zero in the cell to the left of it on the building list, and strikethrough that building (the zero makes it so it won't come out again, and the strikethrough lets everyone see it's not in the stack).

/in
EDIT: Oh, I was already on the list. Thanks.
-
Fail mod for not looking at sign-up list.
Now, to read the rules...
-
Yeah, I forgot to add you and TINAS at first, but done now. Also, added the rules.
-
Oh, by the way, you got the apostrophe wrong. It's wrong on the sign up list too and pretty much everywhere else. It makes me sad.
-
/in!
Now I better read the thread.
-
Yes, yes I did... fixing that now and starting the game. Anyone got any colour preferences?
-
Blue?
Not red.
-
Pink please.
-
Gotta read the rules.
I'll take red if possible.
-
I'll even take Yellow.
I played this once, and things on the spreadsheet look familiar, but I need to brush up on the rules.
-
Player Order
Watno (red)
TINAS (pink)
Galzria (blue)
Kuildeous (yellow)
Sending starting wealth out now. Don't feel pressured into deciding quickly just because the game started quickly. For a start, you probably want to wait until you can see the starting Monuments and buildings.
-
Pink please.
If he gets pink, I want purple!
... I have no idea if these are legitimate colors for the game.
-
Strictly speaking, only Red, blue, yellow and green are legitimate. But I CAN manage pink. Purple as well I think will be pushing it in terms of similar colours though...
-
Here is the spreadsheet for the game: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApPT0N9WtHcKdG84N0thTERhcnphaHFaTGFnLTdpYWc#gid=5
I'm still updating some stuff but it shows starting monuments, which is probably the most relevant thing.
-
I do hope TINAS was serious when he requested pink. ... Actually, I think I hope he wasn't, because it'd be funnier (I'm not changing it back now :P)
-
Okay, spreadsheet is complete with starting setup.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApPT0N9WtHcKdG84N0thTERhcnphaHFaTGFnLTdpYWc#gid=4
-
Galz, TINAS, have you played this before?
-
Galz, TINAS, have you played this before?
Nope.
-
That I don't get auto-inned on new games is a shame. :(
But it's okay, I wasn't so keen in playing this. But I like to reserve the first spot in the second game, okay?
-
Galz, TINAS, have you played this before?
3 times. Won 2 by a landslide. Lost the third by a landslide.
And I was serious about pink. I always play pink when I can. I thought I'd get turned down because you can't play pink in Tzolk'in, but I guess when it's PBF on a spreadsheet, you can make those kinds of changes.
-
That I don't get auto-inned on new games is a shame. :(
But it's okay, I wasn't so keen in playing this. But I like to reserve the first spot in the second game, okay?
I'll update the signup thread with you on it - and if this isn't too overwhelming (for myself or Tables), I'll throw my name into a second game as well. TtA V is ending soon anyway.
-
It should be fairly easy to mod. I might do a second game and play it while modding it myself (I've already got it set up so that's possible - although in the interest of fairness everyone should probably reveal their unchosen starting wealth tiles once they've picked, for the marginal difference it makes (The mod should pick his four first, and then shuffle for the other player's ones))
-
You could get someone else (me, for example), to hand out the starting wealth tiles.
-
That was the other option, yeah. Honestly I think knowing what starting wealth your opponents didn't pick is such a minor change that I wouldn't be too worried about it, but if you volunteer, we could do that.
-
Don't feel pressured by this, but I already sent in my choice more than an hour ago and want to start playing this now. But as said, don't feel pressured.
-
I've got the starting wealth tiles from Watno and TINAS. I think both Galz and Kuildeous don't know the game, so they might need some time to read the rules and then think.
-
Yeah, sorry. Got halfway through the rules yesterday, but had a game to coach last night. On mobile now, so reading the PDF is a PITA - but I'll get my choice submitted by tonight. I've got a game to coach early tomorrow too, but I'll be around in the afternoon to take consecutive turns and keep things rolling.
-
I have a show this weekend, so I won't have much time to refresh myself on the rules.
I think I recall enough to choose my starting wealth, so I'll see if I can do that to speed things along.
-
Got Galzria's starting wealth now. I won't be updating for 12 hours (minimum) of making this post, and it's not like there's a desperate rush to start, so no pressure.
-
Can I still join?
-
Can I still join?
I'll update the main list in a bit, but I think a second game could be close if there's you, Qvist, Tables and one more.
-
I'll throw out signups for a second game.
-
Bump. Just need Kuildeous' starting wealth.
-
Watno chooses
5 corn, 1 gold, Quetzalcoatl temple
2 corn, Chaac temple, advance architecture
TINAS chooses
3 corn, 1 wood, 1 worker is fed automatically each food day
4 corn, 1 wood, advance resource extraction
Galzria chooses
3 corn, Quetzalcoatl temple, advance agriculture
3 corn, 2 wood, 1 stone
Kuildeous chooses
5 corn, 1 stone, Chaac temple
7 corn, 2 wood
Turn 1 starts. Watno is the starting player
-
Place 1 worker on Palenque and 2 on Yaxchilan for 4 corn.
-
TINAS is up
-
Your Workers vs Cost chart on the Player Data tab is a bit off, but with the right costs I'll play:
2 workers on Palenque, 1 on Tikal for 6 food
I don't seem to be able to edit it myself, is this intended?
-
Man, I better hurry up and finish reading those rules.
If I'm slow on my turn, I apologize. My computer died, so I have more pressing issues at the moment. Hopefully I can read the rules while waiting for a program to install.
-
I haven't given edit permissions. If people would prefer, I can, but this way I think is more likely to avoid mistakes.
Also no idea why I was counting from 0. That was stupid.
Don't worry Kuildeous.
-
I'm happy if you're willing to update the spreadsheet. I'd probably forget to do certain parts if I had to do it myself.
-
Worker on 0 Chichen
Worker on 0 Uxmal (2nd Worker: 1 Corn)
Worker on 1 Tikal (3rd Worker: 2 Corn)
Total Spent: 4 Corn
That should be correct?
-
Correct. Kuildeous
-
Buuuump.
-
If people want to, I'm going to allow edit access directly onto the spreadsheet. If you would like to, PM me an email address and I'll add it onto the permission list. Note this isn't an attempt to remove my moderating responsibility! Just to give you more option to keep things moving, if you would like (and if you don't, that's fine too).
I'm adding the instructions into the first post.
-
Kuildeous :(
-
Sorry, been integrating a new computer. I still have work to do, but I was able to refresh myself on the rules so that I can utterly crush you all!*
Place on Uxmal (-1 corn)
Place on Yaxhilan (-3 corn)
*Crushing not guaranteed.
-
Take back all workers, getting 3 corn, 1 wood, 1 stone and another corn
-
TINAS's turn
-
Also I'm changing some things to hopefully make the tech tracks easier to read and I need to know: Kuildeous, would you prefer your name shortened to "Kuil," "Kuild," or something else?
-
Remove Tikal 1: Pay 1 wood, advance Agriculture.
Remove Palenque 2: +4 corn, +1 corn (tech).
Remove Palenque 3: +2 wood, +1 wood (tech).
-
Also I'm changing some things to hopefully make the tech tracks easier to read and I need to know: Kuildeous, would you prefer your name shortened to "Kuil," "Kuild," or something else?
I think Kuil has been the most common abbreviation that I've seen. Since our handles all begin with different letters, that would work too (even though TINAS is itself an abbreviation).
So I won't be offended with any of those options.
-

Yeah, I was going to do single letters until I realised all but your name fits in the little box. Processing TINAS's turn now.
-
Galzria's turn
Also there's 1 corn on the starting player space, which I forgot to add (didn't matter, you two had 3 workers)
-
Take worker off 2 Tikal, build Agriculture Civic: 2 Wood
-
Kuildeous's turn.
-
Place 1 worker on Palenque (no cost)
-
All tracks advance. Bonus corn placed on start player space. Watno's turn
-
Place 2 on Tikal and 1 on Palenque for 4 corn.
-
Place on Yaxchilan 0, Tikal 2, Start Player for 5 corn
-
Place on Palenque 2: 2 Corn
-
All processed, Kuildeous now.
-
Remove from Uxmal 3 and Yaxchilan 4 to gain 1 worker and 1 crystal skull.
-
(Advance time by 2)
-
Remove from Tikal 4, building Civic - 3 wood - Advance agriculture, 1 stone
Will wait for the new building to be pulled before I decide my second build and finish my turn.
-
Please not buildings are only updated at the end of your turn, but processing everything else.
Edit: In fact, processed up to advancing the day, I'll let TINAS make his full turn before doing it.
-
Okay. That's either a rule change from the first edition or we've always played it wrong, but it's fine either way...
Also build Civic - 1 wood, 1 stone - Advance resource extraction, 1 corn. Remove Yaxchilan 2 for +1 stone, +1 stone (tech), +1 corn
-
Most likely you missed it. I definitely knew that from 1st ed, and it's kinda slightly hidden in the rules (on the building section, it says something like "If you build a building, you must replace it at the end of your turn," and the end of rulebook turn overview lists it as part 3, while part 2 is place/remove workers.
Updating sheet now.
Galzria's turn
-
Remove from Palenque 4: Gain 8 Corn, no tile
-
Place 1 worker on Chichen Itza (-0 corn)
Place 1 worker on Tikal (-1 corn)
-
Remove Palenque 2: 4 corn
Remove Tikal 3: Advance Architecture for 1 Stone, 1 Wood, pass secisecond advance
Remove Tikal 2: Build Shrine for 1 gold: Advance architecture, +1 corn, +2 VP.
-
Calendar advances, TINAS turn
-
My 2 Vp are missing, not sure wether I got food (from Architecture I and II)
-
Sorry, I did indeed miss them.
-
Place Palenque 0, Palenque 1, Uxmal 0 for 4 corn
-
Hmm...
Take Uxmal 5 for 1 Corn: Gain Crystal Skull from Yaxchilan 4
-
Kuildeous up
-
Place worker on Yaxchilan (-0 coin)
-
Watno's up.
-
Place 2 workers on Tikal and 1 on Palenque for 7 food.
-
Remove all workers, gaining 5 corn, 4 cornfish, spending 3 corn and advancing on Chaac.
-
Galzria's up
Note to everyone: The next round will be a food day, no matter what.
-
Place on Starting Player and Chichen Itza 0: Net +1 Corn
-
Kuildeous.
-
Kuild?
-
Wha? How'd I miss out on this? I must have read the thread on my phone and planned to do my move when I got home. Obviously that didn't work out.
Remove worker from Palenque (+4 wood)
Remove worker from Tikal and build farm (-4 wood)
-
Sheet updated, Watno's turn (yes, the same building came out)
-
I think I did something wrong.
Remove 1 worker from Palenque for 5 corn
-
Galzria: Advance the day twice?
-
Indeed, yes.
-
TINAS's turn. This day is a food day (resource bonus).
Reminder: For each worker, you must pay 2 corn. If you don't have 2 corn for that worker you will lose 3 points instead (but no corn, if you have 1 left over). The amount of corn you will pay is shown on the sheet (and I've just checked it's correct)
-
Should I have 1 Wood tile? I forget what they're used for, but I did clear that one forest.
-
Should I have 1 Wood tile? I forget what they're used for, but I did clear that one forest.
Fixed. They're only relevant for that one wonder.
-
When do I actually take over as starting player on a round?
-
When you take Start Player, so you should be now.
Edit: And can't feeding be done automatically unless someone doesn't have enough food?
-
¬_¬ Yes, Galzria is starting player. 5am etc.
Feeding is entirely automatic, yes. I'm more warning everyone, make sure you have the food.
-
Remove from Chichen Itza 8
-
Place 1 worker on Tikal.
-
Galz, what block do you want (wood/stone/gold)?
-
Gold please
-
Okay, Watno's turn.
-
Remove Tikal 3, pay 1 corn to use Tikal 2.
Build farm for free, getting 2 VP and 1 corn.
-
TINAS. Another farm came up.
-
Place on Palenque 0 and 1 for 2 corns.
-
I know it's my turn, but I'm waiting on Tables to update the sheet to see where we're at.
-
Makes sense, considering it's a food day.
Galzria consumes 6 corn, everyone else consumes 4 corn
Galzria gains 1 gold, everyone else gains 1 stone
Galzria, always being different. Everything is updated.
-
0 Palanque, 0 Yaxchilan: Total spent: 1 Corn
-
Place worker on Uxmal (0 corn)
-
Watno
-
Place on Tikal 0 and Yaxchilan 1 or 2 corn
-
Anger Quetzalcoatl for corn. Place on Palenque 3 for all my corn.
-
The days turn by....
And I Remove from Palanque 1: Gain 4 Corn
-
Remove from Yaxchilan 5.
Remove from Tikal 2.
Build other Farm for 4 wood.
-
All processed. Watno's turn.
-
Anger Quetaqotl for 3 corn
Remove Tikal 7, building Shrine for 1 stone, getting 2 VP and 1 corn.
-
TINAS.
Note the age I building pile is empty (never seen it get emptied that fast...)
-
Remove Palenque 2 and 4 for 13 corn and 1 corn tile. Remove Palenque 3 for 3 wood and 1 wood tile.
-
Day advances. Galzria's turn.
-
Place 0 Palanque
-
Place worker on Uxmal 0 (0 corn)
Place worker on Tikal 0 (1 corn)
-
Watno
-
Ok, I think the following is allowed. (at least that Tables guy on BGG said so):
Remove Yaxchilan 2 for gold and 2 corn
Remove Tikal 3, building Tomb (1 gold, 1 wood),
-getting 2 VP and 1 corn from architecture
-advancing on Chaac temple
-building farm (1 wood)
--getting 2 VP and 1 corn from architecture.
-
Do we start refilling the buildings with age 2s now or do they just run out until age 2 starts?
-
Either way I think I finally have a plan and I'm going to:
Place on Tikal 1, 2 and 3 for 9 corn.
Oh yes I did.
-
No, age II buildings don't start coming until age II. There are just gaps in the building list. Speaking of which, turn advances, the turn after this is a feeding day.
Galzria's up.
-
Remove from Palenque, gain 5 Corn
-
Kuildeous
-
Remove from Uxmal 3.
Remove from Uxmal 1. Spend 3 corn to advance Chaac.
-
Place on Start player, Yaxchilan 0 and Tikal 0 for 3 corn
-getting 4 corn from Start player
-
TINAS
-
I think there is 1 Farm too many on the available buildings list? This will influence my turn (because I will buy it if it's there).
-
My count coincides with yours (only 1 farm should be left)
-
In that case...
Tikal 2: Build Civic for 2 Wood, 1 Stone. Advance Resource Extraction and receive 1 Gold.
Tikal 3: Advance Resource Extraction (Pay 1 Wood, gain 2 Wood). Advance Resource Extraction (Pay 1 Wood, gain 1 Wood and 1 Gold).
Tikal 4: Buy Farm for 1 Wood. Buy Tomb for 1 Wood, 2 Stone. Advance Chaac and Kukulcan.
I should end with 0 Wood, 0 Stone, 2 Gold.
-
Advance track twice.
-
Yes, sorry. Must have forgotten to delete one.
Watno's turn, it's a feeding day (scoring, end of age I)
-
Oops, I thought Age II would already start this turn.
Place on Yaxchilan 0
-
There's still time to advance only one day if you want to not use the power.
-
no, i still think it's better this way.
-
In that case TINAS.
-
Place on Palenque 0 and 1.
-
Place on 0 Chichen Itza
-
Remove from Tikal 3. Advance Theology twice.
Remove from Chichen Itza 10. Place crystal skull on Chichen Itza 9. Advance in Quetzalcoatl. Gain 1 gold. Use Theology to pay 1 stone to advance in Chaac.
-
Which 3 blocks are you paying to advance Theology, Kuildeous?
-
Ah, I forgot about that cost.
I'll spend 2 wood, 1 stone
-
Okay. Scoring day time. Here are the scores pre-scoring (to avoid errors):
Watno: 10
TINAS: 0
Galzria: 12
Kuildeous: 13
I'll do it by temple:
Chaac:
Kuildeous scores 6 +6
Watno and TINAS score 4
Galzria scores 0
Quetzalcoatl:
Galzria scores 2 +2
Kuildeous scores 1
Watno scores 0
TINAS scores -2
Kukulcan:
Watno and TINAS score 1 +2
Kuildeous and Galzria score 0
Totals:
Watno: 17 (+7)
TINAS: 5 (+5)
Galzria: 16 (+4)
Kuildeous: 26 (+13)
Everyone feeds their workers, day advances. Age II buildings are added, age I buildings removed.
-
Everything is ready. Watno's turn
-
Remove Yaxchilan 1 for 1 wood.
-
Place Palenque 0.
-
Galzria
-
Pull Yaxchilan 6, gain Crystal Skull
-
Kuildeous
-
Place worker on Yaxchilan 0 (0 corn)
Place worker on Chichen Itza 0 (1 corn)
-
Day advances, Watno
-
Place Yaxchilan 0
-
TINAS
-
Remove Palenque 1 and 3 for 10 corn and 1 corn tile.
-
Galzria
-
Remove Chicen Itza 10, placing on spot 6. Take Gold
-
Place one on Palenque 0 (0 corn)
-
Gear advances, right?
Remove Yaxchilan 5
-getting 1 gold, 1 stone, 1 corn
Remove Tikal 5
-paying 1 corn to activate Tikal 4 instead
--build Shrine for 1 stone, 2 1 gold
---advancing Theology twice
---getting 1 corn and 2 VP from architecture
-
Oh, just noticed I typo'd 1 corn not 2 corn on Yax 5. I doubt it'd have affected anyone's anything up to now but I've fixed it. Sorry.
TINAS's turn.
-
Place on Yaxchilan 0 and 3 for 4 corn.
-
0 & 2 Palanque for 3 Corn
-
Bump for Kuildeous
-
Weird. I had posted this earlier. Apparently there was some breakdown between here and there.
Place 1 on starting player (+3 corn)
Place 1 on Uxmal 0 (-1 corn)
-
Note that makes it still you to do stuff. Do you want to advance twice? If yes go ahead and take your next turn.
-
Oh hey, yeah, it is my next turn.
Yes, advance twice.
Remove from Yaxchilan 4.
-
Watno's turn. Note next round will be a feeding day.
-
Advance 2 was the greatest decision you ever made.
-
Place on Chicken Pizza 0 and 1 for 2 corn
-
Remove all workers for 5 wood, 4 stone, 2 gold, 2 corn and 1 wood tile.
-
Galzria.
-
Remove Palanque 2 & 4: Gain 3 Wood & 5 Corn
-
Day advances, Kuildeous's turn. Feeding day
-
Place on Tikal 0 (0 corn)
Place on Yaxchilan 0 (-1 corn)
-
Remove Yaxchilan 4 for 1+1 Crystal Skulls
-
TINAS is up.
-
Place on Tikal 1, 2 and Palenque 0 for 6 corn.
-
I should be at 1 on Kukulcan for my 6 Chichen Itza, correct?
A) Which comes first, feeding or Temple Rewards?
B) How exactly does not being able to feed work again? Is it -1 spot on a Temple per unfed worker + sacrifice all remaining corn?
-
I should be at 1 on Kukulcan for my 6 Chichen Itza, correct?
A) Which comes first, feeding or Temple Rewards?
B) How exactly does not being able to feed work again? Is it -1 spot on a Temple per unfed worker + sacrifice all remaining corn?
Checking your Kukulcan, but you're probably right.
A) I'm not sure, but I think it's irrelevant because...
B) It's -3 points per worker you can't feed (you keep odd corn), lowering temples is only when angering the gods (begging for corn or burning the forst)
-
So starvation is "just" -VP?
Well, it's not ideal, but...
Place on 1 Yaxchilan & on Starting Player for a net loss of 1 Corn
-
Feeding day.
Kuildeous gets 2 stone
Watno & TINAS get 1 stone
Galzria gets 1 gold
Watno, TINAS & Galzria get 1 wood.
Everyone pays feeding cost. Galzria loses 3 VPs from his last worker.
Day advances, Galzria's turn.
-
Place on Palanque 0
-
Oh lol. Forgot I got wood and stone from the feeding day. I have way too many resources now. Anyone want a loan?
-
Take worker from Palenque 5 (+9 corn)
Take worker from Chichen Itza 6 to place skull on Chichen Itza 7. Pay 1 stone to advance Quetzalcoatl a second space.
-
Watno
-
Place Yaxchilan 0
-
Remove Tikal 2. Build Civic for 2 wood, 1 stone. Advance Agriculture and gain 1 gold.
-
Life goes on...
Remove Palanque 1, gain 4 Corn
-
Kuildeous.
-
Sorry, there was a mistake with the sheet. Kuildeous didn't have the crystal skull it claimed he had.
-
Place worker on Uxmal 0 (0 corn)
-
Watno
-
Remove Chicken Pizza 4
-using Chicken Pizza 5 instead
--paying 1 wood for an addiditional Ku-Klux-Klan advance
Remove Chicken Pizza 3
-using Chicken Pizza 4 instead
--paying 1 wood for an addiditional Ku-Klux-Klan advance
-
If I've calculated right I think I just have enough time to grab my 2 monuments (and I'm safe to say that because nobody can/would want to build them before me):
Place on Tickle 0 for free.
-
Those poor Mayans. Their temple gets demolished for a road thousands of years in the future, and we just rub salt in their wounds by mispronouncing (misspelling) their names.
-
Back to Galzria.
-
Is it possible to double check... But I could've sworn I checked like, 5 times that my Yax and Chichin would come off together. Did Chichin not advance?
-
I've checked back onto a few different turns, they're always five apart, so this is correct.
-
Then I royally screwed up my timing.
Ugh.
Remove Yax 4: Gain Crystal
-
Just to make sure I fully understand what's coming.
I (and TINAS and Watno) have four more rounds, barring anyone flipping to light side and messing with the wheels, which is unlikely.
Just double-checking what's happening.
That won't change my plans for this turn, which is to Place worker on Chichen Itza (0 corn).
And so now I have three actions I can do before end of the game.
-
Yes, that's correct.
-
Place Yaxchilan 0 and Tikal 0 for 1 corn
-
Remove Tikal 5. Pay 1 corn to use Tikal 4. Pay 2 wood, 3 stone, 1 gold to build Civic++ monument.
-
Remove Chichen 10, place at highest available space.
-
(http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/37892528.jpg)
Uxmal 2 to sell 2 stone for 6 corn (17/0/0/2), buy 3 wood for 6 corn (11/3/0/2), and buy 2 gold for 8 corn (3/3/0/4).
Uxmal 7 to activate Uxmal 5 to activate Yaxchilan 4 for 1 corn to gain 1 crystal skull (2/3/0/4).
Yaxchilan 4 to gain 1 crystal skull.
Chichen Itza 1 to place skull on Chichen Itza 2. Spend 1 wood to advance in Quetzalcoatl (2/2/0/4).

Erm, so midway through processing Galzria's turn, I noticed I mistranscribed one of the buildings. The building he's building also gives 2 VPs. If anyone thinks this is unfair (e.g. they'd have built it if they knew) let me know.

Kuildeous will win either way so it doesn't make much difference to me.
-
No, I pretty much had my eye on the monument I have now, so I wouldn't have changed my mind.
-
Though I doubt it will make much of a difference, I think it would be fairest to just leave the building without the 2 extra VP on it. After all, Galzria made the decisíon to go for it without considering the 2 extra VP it gives.
-
Bump. It's Watno's turn. I've fixed other things as we went, and as the first game I'm not surprised there's one or two transcribing mistakes. I doubt that 2 VPs will make a difference, but if it does, we'll see.
-
Sorry, i didn't realize the spreadsheet had been updated to the start of my turn already. I wasn't aware that I'm the starting player.

Thanks. It has further put the game in my favorable pile. I may have to go out and buy it.
And it interests me how you can score in many different ways. This game was a lot different than the other time I played it. In that one, I felt like I was running an uphill battle keeping my people fed. I believe I did have all six workers out there. I started off fast and strong to get as many workers as possible. That got pretty nasty at feeding time, especially since I had no farms. I still won that one, but it was by a pretty narrow margin. Side note: One player was complaining that the person who never fed his workers took second place. He was fighting to feed his workers too, and he was mad that he was beat out by the person who didn't feed anyone. He didn't even focus on the fact that the guy that didn't feed his workers took second.
This one was pretty lucky for me. Once I got both farms, I had no worries about food. I still needed it for placing multiple workers, but I was in no danger of going negative. That opened a huge door for me. It would have been a far different game if I didn't get both my farms. The Chichen Itza wheel is definitely a long-term goal, but, man, is it worth it when it pays off. In the first game I played, I screwed that up and even had to lose a worker off that wheel.
So, two games with two wildly different methods. Definitely a game with some good replayability.

Congratz Kuildeous.
Somehow this game didn't really grab me. It's not bad, but I don't get why people are so excited about it.
-
I think what grabs me with this game is that you have an additional resource. Yeah, you can find plenty of games where the resources are stone, wood, workers, and money (corn). But this game has time as a resource.
And it's like a puzzle, placing your workers so that you can combo into something effective.
Although, people have different enjoyment levels for certain games. The reason I'm not buying this just yet is that if my group isn't interested in it, then it'll just take up space until I trade it away.
I think I prefer the spreadsheet method to the physical wheels. The wheels are a fun gimmick, but the spreadsheet really gives a great overview of where your workers are and where they'll end up. Thanks for modding, Tables.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot that. Thanks a lot for hosting, Tables.
-
I prefer playing IRL personally - mainly because it's much easier to jump between looking at tech/resources and worker locations, although that's not directly related to the wheels. The big big advantage of the wheels is that it's an effective and simple way to advance the day each round. It's the perfect functional use of it.

Yeah, it does help a lot with that. If this were set up as five different tracks where you advance everyone one space, you can run into the problem of something being forgotten. With the interlocking wheels, you either turn them all or turn none of them. And it's unlikely that all players who are paying attention to the board will wonder, "Did we rotate it this turn or not?"
