Title: Tournament round 1
Post by: antony on January 28, 2013, 04:55:52 pm
So let's start!

antony-Qvist: 1-1
Game 1: antony (Sailing) wins by 6 achievements to 2 (Qvist: Writing) in 19 turns
http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201301/28/game-20130128-125400-a6c46c39.html
I use Road Building to steal Banking from Qvist, then Banking to steal Steam Engine and then just keep scoring until the end.
Game 2: interrupted by Qvist (Sailing) losing connection while he was leading 5 achievements to 0 (antony: Clothing) after 20 turns

Qvist's Steam Engine / Combustion basically replicates my previous game but I manage to stop him using Rocketry just before it is too late.  Unfortunately his connection drops immediately after (he was probably an overwhelming favourite to win the game at that point).  We decide to replay the game.
Game 2b: Qvist (Writing) wins by 6 achievements to 0 (antony: Clothing) in 17 turns

Where Philosophy reveals itself to be a decent scorer too when the opponent doesn't manage to share its benefits.

Paper/Philosophy was a real power combo.
And rrenaud, if you read that. When I lose IC and refresh the page, I can only see the log, the board is gone. I'm not sure if you know of this issue.

Thanks for the games antony.

After a brief discussion with marco, we decided to make our match a little more interesting:

Tournament round 1 match D:
BitTorrent vs marco2012

Proposed date and time: Friday evening on GMT +8
Live via online-streaming (should be twitchTV with a 5 minutes delay, details later)

In order to make the streaming looks more interesting we will try to play it slowly, at least a bit slower than what I used to do(those who played against me said that how can someone play every single turn within 3 seconds...)

And there is our profile, we have been played in F14 for so long:

player profile: marco2012
current status on F14: 339-246 (.579)
current ranking on F14: 7 (best ranking: 7)

description:
A very cunning player who excels a tech-up oriented style. His planning and execution on drawing higher age cards would easily caught someone off-guard while keeping himself well protected from board invasion.
Favourite cards: Evolution, Education

player profile: BitTorrent
current status on F14: 280-145 (.658)
current ranking on F14: 5 (best ranking: 1)

description:
An all rounded player who shifts through various play-styles and approaches. He loves getting momentum via sharing dogmas and he shares effect so frequently that others may feel his game-plan is pure reckless, although only he holds the answer to that.
Favourite cards: Optics, Canning

I beat pops: http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201301/30/game-20130130-183301-8b55357c.html

A typical race of achievements vs tech, right down to the final photo finish with Empiricism.  I was afraid his Experimentation was going to cover up my Empiricism, but instead it gave me the last pair of light bulbs I needed to get over 20.

Industrialization, as always, provided the symbols and while also clearing the path to the higher techs.

the match will start about 30 minutes later, between me and marco XD
No delay, he won't watch this. He don't need to.  8)

well I losed both games:

I can do a commentary if you want...don't know, some plays are bad, some luck are worse.
Yea we are not hoping for good luck, just...don't start with Tools + code of law twice LOL

I think Tools -> Translation is the real loser ... though I guess Translation is actually useful when it's the only card on your board!

Translation is a week card, but not at all useless.  Sometimes you randomly already fulfill the achievement condition, or just need one meld to do so.  Once I got five achievements, but then got my entire score pile nuked and pinned, so I used about 10 actions and translation to get the World achievement and finish the game.

I'm going to be a coroner and say, this tournament is dead.
