Starting with vowel, if odd number of words, answer is yes, otherwise, no. Reverse is true if question is starting with consonant.
for the steal: if the question contains a doubled character, the answer is yes
This is f.ds: edge cases are king :) Go ahead cayvie.
Guess:
if f.ds name is in question, answer is yes, otherwise no.
Guess:
if f.ds name is in question, answer is yes, otherwise no.
rules question: is this a legal rule?
I would have to say noGuess:

I hope I'm doing my examples right -- I do sentences that prove the submitted rule wrong, right?
Eh?The guess you reacted to was written and posted before theory's answer to the question that made the guess wrong.

I don't mean to pick on you. Sorry :PLOL, I don't feel picked on at all, I literally was always a post behind, because of the way I had tabs set up. You'd think I'd have learned from Mafia to respect the red warnings. :)
Guess: Yes if its a one word question, No otherwise

Stop stealing my guesses before I get answers to my questions, amirite?
Does Axxle matter?
Do you like making it this hard?
This is annoying. I can tailor my questions to produce an answer, but can't explain why.All questions get an answer :P

Can you eat it at a fair?
Is it somewhere over there?
Do you like green eggs and ham? Yes.

I'll answer in a little bit, going to write up my F:DS tournament result first (spoiler: I won!)
Guess: Must have an even number of vowels
Bleh I'm terrible at this game.
I made an errorDoes that change everything?
Floccinaucinihilipilification? Yes
Sorry
B A A B?
This is not a question for the game. What does PINL stand for? It's not in urban dictionary.
And it doesn't Google.
At the beginning of the round, the Oracle invents a secret rule, completely mechanical, based on - and solely on - the exact wording of the questions asked. This rule will, given the exact wording of a question, tell the Oracle to reply either "Yes" or "No".
I believe that I am. It is mechanical and is solely based on the exact wording of the questions asked. If there was a FAQ for this game it would probably answer whether or not I am for sure, but I can't be more specific than that. Suffice it to say I believe I am following the rules. At the beginning of the round, the Oracle invents a secret rule, completely mechanical, based on - and solely on - the exact wording of the questions asked. This rule will, given the exact wording of a question, tell the Oracle to reply either "Yes" or "No".Are you satisfying this?
Guess: Answer yes if previous question shares any words with current question; no otherwise.Correct!
Which, if I'm correct, does not seem in the spirit of the game. But, oh well, at least I'd be correct.I thought it did. There's nothing saying that the questions can't refer to previous questions, and the rule itself is very simple. It's a mechanical rule that relies only on the questions. Just because it made people think a little differently to get the answer doesn't mean it's a wrong rule. Anyhow if I get to be the Oracle again I will definitely consider making rules in a similar vein again. I actually kept expecting someone to do something like this and was surprised when I was the first. Anyhow congrats you are now the Oracle.
I'm fine with this, although... the issue I see is people pushing the boundary. I can't say for certain though.
In the original Zendo, rules may only refer to the pieces of the koan under consideration and the surface of the table, which is assumed to be infinite and featureless. This is "the Spock rule," since we should be able to build a koan here and beam it up to the Enterprise without in any way affecting its legality.I wasn't aware of that rule. It wasn't stated and I'd never encountered this game before. I did read the relevant section of the rules before crafting the rule, and thought it fell well within the bounds. If Axxle needs to clarify the rules he should include that there, though I (obviously) think the expanded playing field I was working with is more interesting.
If a question can be asked twice and be given two different answers, it's not within the parameters of the game.I'm fine with this, although... the issue I see is people pushing the boundary. I can't say for certain though.
I think the most important rule is that the rules be simple. If people do that then the boundaries probably won't be pushed too hard. Anyone who makes a rule that's too hard should be mercilessly mocked and shunned as the rules state. That'll be a deterrent for anyone who gets too imaginative.

Logical, is that captain?

That's not clear from the rules which state: At the beginning of the round, the Oracle invents a secret rule, completely mechanical, based on - and solely on - the exact wording of the questions asked. This rule will, given the exact wording of a question, tell the Oracle to reply either "Yes" or "No".
Guess: Average word length is greater than 4 characters
Your rule was also based on the *order* of the questions asked, so it wasn't solely based on wording. If a question can be asked twice and be given two different answers, it's not within the parameters of the game.I'm fine with this, although... the issue I see is people pushing the boundary. I can't say for certain though.

My rule did state that the Oracle should reply either Yes or No, was mechanical, and was based entirely on the exact wordings of the questions asked. If you want the questions to be considered in a vacuum I'd suggest appending the Spock clarification to the rules to prevent future confusion. (I expect this thread will go long and people won't read through all the old conversation.)
Guess: contains a "v" or a "x". Incorrect:
A vexing requirement of Scrabbly letters? Yes.
That doesn't disprove the guess..
other ones there do though.
"can the number of words be prime" being "no" doesn't disprove the prime/composite theory, though.
"short questions forbidden" being "yes" does.

Twasn't my guess but I assume most people don't mean exclusive or when they speak
Guess: third letter is a vowel.
"How come" would be yes than, right?

well, ram and ham are english words, are they not?
guess: the first word contains a letter from the top row, and the last word contains a letter from the bottom row
guess: top row of a qwerty keyboard, followed by middle row, followed by bottom row = yes
guess: top row of a qwerty keyboard, followed by middle row, followed by bottom row = yes
This doesn't appear to be a complete guess?
guess: if the first word contains a letter from the top row, and the last word contains a letter from the bottom row, and either one of them also constains a letter from middle keyboard row (all QWERTY), answer is yes.
guess: if the first word contains a letter from the top row, and the last word contains a letter from the bottom row, and either one of them also constains a letter from middle keyboard row (all QWERTY), answer is yes.
Is this over?
Did we win?
Guess: last word must have at least one letter from each QWERTY keyboard row.
Guess: answers containing a capitalized E, H, O, R, T, and/or Y will get a yes, all others will get a no?
Why those letters in particular?
I don't have a rule, but give me a minute.
Guess: Question has 2 or more capitals in it - yes
I can do whatever I want, it's my question.
It's quite the opposite. But if I say anymore about why I won't answer the questions, that would give too much away. I am not withholding information. My rule simply does not work on questions like that.
Yes I have no banana? No.
Yes I have no bananas? No.
Guess: Question has a one-syllable word, a two-syllable word, and a three-syllable word = yes
Guess: Question has a one-syllable word, a two-syllable word, and a three-syllable word = yes
WHAAAAT!
I always pronounce Galzria in 2 syllabuls! (Galz-ria)
And while I don't think joth's rule was necessarily out of bounds for the game - and certainly wasn't INTENTIONALLY so - I am concerned that any rule that hinges on pronunciation is bound to get into difficulties, seeing as how they can get... inexact. Especially when proper nouns are involved.
Y'know what? Let's proceed.
I have a rule.
Guess: Question has 13 words = yes
Guess: has a word that starts with a lowercase "h" - answer is yes; otherwise no.
Note that I made a mistake in an early question, fixed in the latest summary. If you all jump straight to the bottom of my post you may miss that. As it's a question that answered "yes" without being 13 words long, you may be interested ;)That's our moderator, Voltgloss, being fair and acting quickly, yet again.

Volt making a mistake? No.
Is that even possible? No.
How could Insomniac even suggest such a thing? No.
Bwahahaha.
;)
WHy does everything I touch die, metaphorically speaking?
Why does everything I touch literally die?
Do you post questions you want real answers to in a Zendo forum?
Would I post deep, existential questions on a Dominion Strategy forum at all?
Well, it isn't really the case that everything I touch dies. If it were I would probably wear gloves, be a hermit, and hope for the best. Is that what you wanted to know?
Actually, zxfzx ?
If answer tot aht is yes, than I'll change the guess to:
Guess: If last two letters of any word are the same as first two letters of any word, the answer is yes, otherwise no.

Disproven already, I think, by a yes in the list. 3rd yes.

Nevermind. Disproven.

If the question has m, followed by e, followed me m, followed by e (there can be letters in between), answer is yes, otherwise no?
eemm?
Holy crap! Whoooo!

Pray tell, William dear, is that child your target? You, as father, cry, but despair will not do. Do not, Will, despair, but cry "Father" as you target your child. That is, dear William Tell, pray. - NoI now want to put a William Tell role into a game with an IC.
Well, since Galz obviously does not care.
I have a rule.
Is that cake delicious? Are cupcakes delicious?
Is cake delicious?
Rule: If it contains a 't' which is not the first letter of a word, then the answer is 'No'; otherwise, 'Yes'.
Okay, I have a rule.
Is it a good rule? NoWhy did you pick it then?
Rule: if there are 2 or more capital letters, yes, otherwise no.
Guys I think capital letters might matter? Nothis too
haven't checked all the questions so far, but:
If there are 3 or more characters that aren't lowercase letters, spaces, or questions marks, yes, otherwise no.
pretty sure that's it. could also be the same thing, except question marks aren't included and it's 4 or more instead.
Rule: if the question contains a letter in the word "yes" or the word "no," then yes. Else, no.Already contradicted by: HIT? yes
Rule: If it contains a letter in N-Z, then yes. Otherwise no.correct!
Rule: if it has two letters that are next to each other in the alphabet next to each other in the right order, yes, otherwise no.
WTH is a Chairzard? Chair-lizard?
Guess: If the questions contains one of the letters jqxz, then no, otherwise yes.Correct! The Scrabble 10 point letters. Your turn
Guess: If the sentence contains a word which more than four letters, Yes. Else No.That guess is already debunked quite a few times...
Guess: If the question has at least as many words with five or more letters than words with 4 or fewer letters yes, otherwise no.Yes, that's basically it. You can do the next one (and thank jotheonah for the almost-correct answer).
I AM REALLY REALLY SORRY GUYS I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WAS THINKING BUT APPARENTLY I ANSWERED A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS WRONG LAST NIGHT. (Seriously, I have no idea how that happened, there is no reason I can think of for answering all those question yes.) I fixed them in this post and I'll go back and edit my other posts. I think they were just in the group asked by florrat near the end.No problem, that can happen! But actually I'm glad those questions have a different answer. I was really confused before, which you might have been able to tell, since I repeated some earlier questions :)
Yeah, it's just that that sort of thing can totally ruin the game. I remember an actual game of Zendo that I played one time where the master had told us a particular structure was wrong, I asked him several times if he was sure it was wrong and he assured me it was. All of the things I had been thinking were contradicted by that structure, and it wasn't until much later that he caught it. So I know how awful it can be to be on the other end of that, but hopefully I caught myself quickly enough that it didn't cause too much trouble.I AM REALLY REALLY SORRY GUYS I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WAS THINKING BUT APPARENTLY I ANSWERED A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS WRONG LAST NIGHT. Ah, finally!
Guess: If the question contains a word with the same number of letters as the number of words in the question, then yes (otherwise no).
(for example, "Is this the answer?" would be yes, because the question contains 4 words, and it contains the word "this", which contains 4 letters)
a?
r?
e?
Guess: yes if the string contains an anagram of a Dominion card. Else, no.
Guess: If no two consecutive words start with the same letter, yes, otherwise no.
Guess: If no two consecutive words start with the same letter, yes, otherwise no.
A counterexample exists already;
Antidisestablishmentarianism? No.
(edit: forgot question mark)
Will we have to brute force this one? Yes.Okay, maybe if I ask a ton of questions, some of which may be redundant, it will work?
aaa bb c? No.Every questions with an odd number of a's in it was answered yes except this one?
Will asking a lot of questions help us figure it out? No.oh well?
Am I mistaken in believing it's a math problem in disguise, with the answer simply being a 0 (no), or 1 (yes) based on a simple mathematical statement (ie. "Number is whole, result even = yes, else = no)?all rules are math problems in disguise, as you describe?

this one isn't as well disguised though, yet is still quite hard?
Guess: If a two-letter or longer sequence is repeated, yes, otherwise no.
h h?
Guess: "Yes" if the question has at least 3 words all of the same length.
Guess: If the first and last word share any letters, yes. Else, no.
(Not a question to be answered yes or no)
Do we have somewhere that all previously done rules are listed? The one in the OP is out-of-date and probably always will be.

We would probably have to start a new thread. Is Ozle lost and gone forever like Voltgloss?
Guess: Third word has an even number of letters <=> yes.
Does the person guessing the rule get to make the next rule?I believe so; I'm ready to start a rule, but there was some mention of starting a new thread for this so we could have an updated list of all rules so far.
