Title: Marin, the crazy scientist
Post by: Geronimoo on June 22, 2012, 06:57:46 am
No way this board (http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/22/game-20120622-033914-f0b8ad71.html) had an engine and still Marin tries to build one. I was amused. Then we played two more games and he crushed me with sick engines.

Engines without +Actions or trashing are hard.

A for effort though. I'm probably the other end of the spectrum: "No way there's an engine here that's going to beat my BM-Envoy, oh wait..."

"Where there's a KC, there's an engine" well, no. But you know, throw ANY cantrip in, even pearl diver...

But Marin is both bad (relatively anyway; he's much better than he used to be) at BM, and he absolutely hates it. He will go for an engine if remotely viable, and sometimes, you're surprised at how well he does. But strategically, he may figure he's worse than you at BM (I would), so he feels he has a better chance with an engine(?)

Whaaaaat ? You both opened with 2 terminals (and Swindler, the attack of the shame) ??? I wouldn't dare this, by fear of collision ! (except if one of two is courtyard, or ghost ship...)
And in such a game, KC+Conspirator/other KC are the only ways to reach an engine... it's a really dangerous gamble... as much as starting with 2 terminals or taking smugglers ! And G.Ship is a great liability against opponent's library, too !

And could we have logs of the two following games please ^^ ?

Double swindler is a common opening.
Don't fear the reaper collision!

Look at it this way.
Geronimoo plays his Swindler turn 3. It hits Marin's Swindler. Had Marin opened Silver/Swindler instead, and it had hit his only Swindler.. ouch.

Or would have it hit his only Silver? :D

It seems remarkable to me that even though both players opened Swindler/Swindler only a single Copper is swindled in the whole game!

all you need is KC, +buy, +cards, and +$ - no actions required :)

I'm surprised Marin didn't get any council rooms. That provides the cards and +buy he sorely needs and ghost ship is good enough to somewhat negate the opponents benefit when they are doing some sort of big money.
